Cometeer: The Future of Specialty Coffee Accessibility

- I truly believe Cometeer is the direction I'd like to see the coffee industry take in making high-end coffee and techniques more accessible. However, this brewing style is not for everyone because it does not offer the flexibility and satisfaction many are seeking in brewing at home. In addition, the high cost of capsules is a huge barrier to entry for many aspiring homebrewers. That being said, the brewing quality in the capsule is incredibly good/consistent and the techniques required to brew are essentially removed.
tl;dr decent and super-easy way to brew coffee, but not very satisfying to brew with.
This increase in accessibility is what I think is truly innovative about Cometeer and these types of efforts excite me (that's why I speak so positively of these types of products). As much as I think the enthusiast community would hate a product like this I would suggest you all try a capsule and make your own conclusions. I honestly thought these would be pretty run-of-the-mill due to the number of advertisements I've seen but after I tried the capsules I think they are here to stay. Also funnily enough if you measure the extraction #'s they're pretty high (cc: Steve Rhinehart). In this video, I brew a drink with Cometeer and offer my thoughts on the process and use cases of these frozen capsules!
Other Notes on Cometeer:
I am impressed by the quality and consistency of the capsules. The actual content inside is properly brewed and is incredibly flexible in what you can do with it. While you cannot adjust the "base" Cometeer brew, you can still make a variety of drinks. One difference between Cometeer and properly pulled Espresso is the lack of texture/crema you may find enjoyable. You can make most milk-based drinks using Cometeer as a base, but in diluted water drinks (say you are trying to make an americano) it will be similar to a filter/pour-over style coffee. Another thing to note is the capsules and packaging are fully recyclable. However, because they ship it to you in a dry ice box I'm not sure how "sustainable" everything is.
Overall I think these capsules serve as a great way for aspiring homebrewers to try a coffee intended by the brewer just to see what "it's supposed to" taste like. For those with setups at home, I'd only try these out for the convenience aspect. I'd opt to try the capsules at some point in your specialty coffee journey however I would not replace whole beans with these fully as the capsules are not as fun to brew with. They're also pretty expensive, but if you factor in costs (time + money) to create similar brews at home I feel it balances out. What is missing from these capsules is the more manual involved processes that we enthusiasts do look for.

I like to leave a pod in the fridge overnight so that it's melted and ready in the morning. And let's not forget another advantage of making hot coffee this way; You can warm your water to drinking temperature, and start drinking the coffee right away.
After watching your video I have to try one buddy!
I jumped on the 50% off the first order deal for the exact reason you stated. I just got into specialty coffee and I started with an aeropress and a JX Pro. So many variables. So much decision fatigue. No real reference for what I was shooting for. Cometeer definitely helped me understand what standard I should be aiming for as well and trained me to taste what I am actually looking for. Happy to say I have more or less learned enough to make comparable if not better brews and I have plenty of pods to spare for when I am in a pinch. Definitely would not pay full price for this on the regular but I encourage people to give it a shot. Even if you have been brewing at home for a long time, it’s good to have a check-in for where the quality of your current brew is at.
Not a bad way to try different roasters even if you are capable of making espresso at home. The significant other factor you mentioned is also super underrated. I think you need a follow up video of you taking a straight cometeer shot... for science.
I decided to try Cometeer for those days when I don’t have time to wait for my machine to warm up or do all the prep for pulling a shot. I have seen a few reviews about this new way to drink coffee and used the 50% discount. Thanks for your honest opinion.
“It’s really hot in thr Bay Area”
😂 *76 degrees outside.
Thanks for the awesome content! I used to live near Modesto, and would go to the bay for cafe visits often.
This might be super convenient to leave at an office freezer and drink better quality coffee over that terrible office coffee.
what if coffee but with even more waste
their business model is literally to generate mounds of garbage/"recycling" but it doesn't matter they don't see any cost from that
Yep, driving to the closest Intelligentsia, paying more for convenience and buying snacks along with that I don't need is much better.
I’ll be honest, this just feels like an advert 🤨
oh fuck off lol
this is an ecological disaster…
Yeah this is what's gonna do us in. Not our reliance on gasoline. Coffee capsules that come in completely recyclable packing.
