The differense is general wealth. Norway has only 5-10% very rich -90-95% is the average. Most other countries have 30/70%. Norwegians mostly buy expensive branded clothes such as jackets / shoes - because the climate is somewhat different and you do not have to throw away clothes because they are not usable.

Groceries aren't three times as expensive. It's about 30% more. Fish is way cheaper. Potatoes, carrots and similar vegetables are about the same, while diary like milk, cheese and eggs are way more expensive in Norway. But the variety is tragic. Every store sells mostly identical brands, and there's very few brands to choose from.

Its because communication is important. A person from another country does not understand " the unspoken rules" here. Its a fact, believe it or not. And in the end a foreigner can have a top job, believe it or not.
i have been watching TONS of videos on Norwegian life, as I plan to move to bergen in a couple of years, but none have mentioned the elitism you described, so this was an interesting perspective.

High taxes in Norway are largely a myth!
According to the OECD, Norway's tax level in 2016 was 38 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).
In Finland and Sweden it was 44 percent. Only Iceland had a lower tax level than Norway, with 36 percent.
A number of European countries have higher tax levels than Norway. In France it is 45 percent of GDP, in Italy at 43 percent and in Belgium at 44 percent.
This was so fascinating! I had no idea what life was like in Norway and I had no idea about how wealthy the country was with people like crazy rich asians 😱Seeing Birkins being used casually is crazy hahaha
It´s surreal
The average salary is almost $ 60,000 so it is not special. You can not buy a down jacket from China for $ 70 - it satisfies no one. The same goes with shoes and boots - you have to have "gore-tex" or something similar and it costs money. Boots for $ 49 are ridiculous.

I mean I work 100% remote in tech and born in Netherlands (but 👩🏽 Desi Caribbean ethnicity). Definitely! There is a lot of black women in Norway and very very few salons that know how to professional treat natural hair and curls.

What do you need to live & work in Norway?
Could you talk about the costs of living, i.e. rent, utilities, food, gasoline, etc? And compare to the average income. Also, for those who are on a retirement income. Thanks.
Gasoline is almost 10 dollars pr gallon right now in Norway.
my boyfriend and I moved across the US together and hope to move out of the US soon. (I'm Spanish, he's Italian) he's partly concerned about racism as he is Afro-Latino and being able to make money as easily as it is in the US. Hi! If you are single and plan to rent a net income of 2600 will be sufficient and more than enough to support yourself in any city including Oslo. Might not advise you to try to live an overly luxurious lifestyle with eating out all the time if you want to be money smart but you can easily afford a nice and comfortable lifestyle on 2600 euros in Norway. They should favor citizens of Norway over other people. Otherwise They would be crushed out of their country and culture. If one feels excluded because of class, then one is not looking for true and good company.
I imagine a higher degree of competence would be highly valued in a lot of jobs hence it’d be better to choose those more qualified, regardless of background. They won’t get “crushed” because of it, unless you believe most Norwegians are incompetent compared to foreigners.

Wow, do you always just focus way more on the negative points in life?? Downer. Then you say nothing really to complain about but spent 80% of vid complaining. Realistically every place and every person has both positive and negative points. You were mostly negative. After watching your video I do want to visit Norway, My best friend who is a black man was considering going here, after this video... he would change his mind. 😒

If you have any questions you would me to answer in the video I can answer them in the video or upcoming video.
Regarding your best friend I would say he should go for it and not base his decision on one video. Realistically speaking, when it comes to living in Norway the positive aspects (work opportunities, level of safety, social mobility, freedom of speech, education opportunities etc) out weight the negative sides. I assumed this would inherently be something people who would click on this video knew when watching this video but now realize it’s not.
Regardless, I agree. Realistically speaking every place and every person has both negative sides and will try to showcase those both of the sides in upcoming videos!
I as a native Norwegian can't really tell that Miss Aliyah's experience is not true or if she is overracting ... to be honest I think in many cases they are true, do companies here favor natives ? probably ... there can be many reasons to it, one thing is languagebarrier ... another is that we norwegians can be abit xenophobic at times, or atleast you would believe that if you watch the news and such, but from what I have read atleast is that if you have a foreign looking name it can be more difficult to get a job as Mohammed than ... Ole to say like that, exactly why its like that I don't know.
What I do know is that we do waste alot of good workers because of strict regulations on education.. so we have had people from like Russia that was educated as medical doctor in Russia but could not get a better job than a washingjob in Norway !!! They have to go through alot to get their education approved in Norway, some just take a another education instead.
Like right now we have a shortage of nurses and teachers ...
About expensiveness, sure eating out is expensive in Norway, go out for drinks can cost alot even for natives and that is why norwegians in general do not eat out alot .. unless its junkfood tough, we make dinners home with family. Taxes on alot of stuff is there because the government thinks its bad for us, so sugar and alcohol are bad for us in large quantas so they tax it, petrol is bad for nature so they tax it .. the hope is that we are to use less of it.
About safety, sure its safer out in the rural areas small towns around, than in bigger cities, we here where I live have not experienced burgulars, robberies or even murders since World war 2 I think ... in most cases people don't even lock their doors or they leave their car running unlocked while being in at the store to pick something up... But I live in a small town where everyone knows everyone .. we also have quite abit of people from different countries and religions here ... and as far as I know .. racism do exist but is not that obvious .. people can use a name the norwegian N-word on people of color and not like because they mean anything bad with it, but up to the last 10-15 years it was not considered that bad a word, Astrid Lindgren even used it in her books (its been taken away now).
We are however used to people of various nations so I don't feel thats really a problem.
But I live in the north, we are quite different than them in the south .. in many ways.
All in all it was a good informative video I think ... as a native norwegian.
I really don’t understand why black people complains about their hair and needing special treatment in the west, but I have never hear them complaining in Africa. Why can’t the west in rich economies do what they do in poor economies in Africa?
You mean relaxing it, having it contant braids or just shave it all off? I can’t really answer too all Black poeple in «rich economies», what I can tell you is that If it was that simple.. it woudn’t be occuring issue.
Having natural hair is more common in the west because in order to take care of it, deep conditioners, shampoo to some extent, oils and butter all things cost money. Having it professionally done is a luxery, «Black people in rich economies» want to have. The complaining is more about equal oppertunities, than it about hair.
@@missaliyah I see blacks from America’s South when they go to the Midwest they would also complain that people there don’t know how to treat their hair. I am guessing here but I would imagine to be quite complicated to treat black peoples’ hair.
@@MRT-co1sd it not is complicated, salons just don´t have hairdressers that are trained to treat "black peoples’" hair. At the end of the day, it´s just hair. You wouldn't walk into a nail salon and be more than happy to pay for a commodity that very much accessible to most people (people with straight hair" only to have someone say.. sorry but we have no one here to that know how to treat "black people's nails" and be pleased with the answer, would you?
it´s an unnecessary insult and a big fat " you-are-not-welcome-here smack in the face. Yes "natural hair is" textured differently than what ads define as "beautiful", but it in the end just hair. And btw, this is an issue that doesn´t just affect "black people", it affects all types of people with curls. Orange people, white people, Hispanic people. All kinds.
