It’s really simple, Kyrie stays and they build around Luka and Ky from there. Defense is their main issue and if they can learn to prosper defensively, the Mavs will be just fine. They have the potential, just need to learn to execute
they need a legit big man. wood is a good 6'10 but they need a proper 7 footer. if they can find a way to swing for a guy like OG anunoby in the offseason cuz he would do a great job to shore up their perimeter defense.

Luka is way too slow and their teammates react better to kyries fast pace offense. Thats why im saying that he should be the 1. @@jj00100 Luka could do that but they'd have to not play him full 12 minute quarters in the first and 3rd quarter. Even then he weighs like 260lbs at 6'7, which is good for driving but need to be realistic in that he may never be that player that can get up and down the court that quick
Luka can move faster once he gets in shape…he definitely has to get in shape period. I have seen him speed up the pace and he did good, but then he went back to the I am going to hog the ball for 23 seconds, not trust my teammates, give the defense time to rest and no defense. Those Guys love playing with Kyrie period. They know he has confidence in them and know they can and will make the shots period.
Now the other team has to play defense on everyone and not just 1 player period.

Dude is playing legendary basketball. This is The Redemption Of Kyrie Irving, the man has gone thru so much. It’s time he anchors himself into his destined role on this team, a True Team Leader, A Champion and someone who will bring glory to the city of Dallas being #2 alongside Luka Doncic. This game was the turning point, Chemistry is offically built with the same teammates that have been together for so long by not shooting it himself and dishing it out.
Kyrie is a legend... Now he has a chance to prove he has learned from his mistakes and can make a team better.
I do hope Kyrie and Luka stay around for the long term. It's cool seeing them play on the same team and as others mentioned if they can add defensive pieces next season then the team can improve.

I think Kyrie is going to do GREAT in Dallas. There is a new team learning curve so it might take till next season but I believe Kyrie and Mark Cuban really respect each other. That will go a long way with Kyrie.

they should start Kyrie/Luka/Powell/Hardaway Jr/ & McGee or Morris for backup defense, & have Maxi & Bullock rotate. Having McGee & Kyrie as Championship veterans on the court will be crucial.
McGee is too slow and Morris looks washed, JKidd likes to play small but this game he plays two bigs but the good thing mavs has 3 bigs that can defend in perimeter it means it's better to have those three in frontcourt rotation and also give Bertans a little bit of minutes coz he can really contribute on this team

I don't know if it's a first option thing. It's mainly just that the regular season benefits teams that get out and run. Without Luka they play a lot faster. In the playoffs it is much more about halfcourt execution and Luka is incredible in that environment. If they can push the pace more with Luka they'll get the best of both worlds. They've gotten better at it since the Kyrie trade, but there's still a long way to go.
