  • The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is a game known for its massive and still-active modding community. That community has developed a plethora of different types and genres of mods, among them are some spookier projects. Mods that attempt to scare the player aren't particularly abundant in the game, but Skyrim certainly has a few scarier ones out there, so today we take a look at 5 Spooky mods for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.

I've only been subbed for a few videos and I notice this pitch change a lot. Nate's normal tone sounds like he's speaking in a lower register than is natural for him so when he is emphasizing something by raising his register it may be raising an octave higher than we expect.
It's awesome... though it would be better if his normal speaking voice were a full vocal fry register and shifting to a falsetto, or even the Ariana Grande whistle register.
Then he could just read the phone book. XD

The Immersive College of Winterhold mod has a questline through the old Winterhold ruins. It's kinda spooky, since it's super dark there (even with torchs/candlelight) and you really don't know where you're going to or what is going to happen next.
They also introduced a locked room in The Midden. I went there through console command and saw some draugr corpses. When I went closer to one of them, it suddenly all went dark and I heard some loud and scary screamings. That really scared me haha

Yesterday I played Skyrim VR, with ELFX Hardcore Mod, and entered Bleak Falls Barrow, the cave was so dark, I couldn't see anything without using a torch or lantern, So I was holding the lantern and could only see two meters ahead of me. Then came to the area where Draugr arise from death, having a dead blue eyes screaming at me and making scary noises, it was one of the most horrifying experiences I have ever lived. 0:06 So yeah, you can make Skyrim a great horror game if you want.

I can personally stand by Vigilant being an amazing mod for people that want a paladin/vigilant of stendarr playthrough. The NPCs you meet are amazing, the weapons are really unique (not like a new enchantment on a basic ass skin, I mean broken weapons with some new skins with amazing powers!), the armour is really good as well (very dark souls like) and the quest is the most unique thing you'll ever play through. One warning though, the quest is very very very long and you acquire A LOT of loot which you won't have many places to store (unless you go back to vanilla Skyrim map; slight spoiler but nothing major). 10/10 mod. It's the scariest thing you'll ever play and if you don't enjoy this mod then you're a lost cause my friend. The mod takes a real dark souls vibe in it's arm and carries you through. There are guides online for when you get lost in the mod but I would suggest leaving them until you get stuck.

It contains a small puzzle which reveals a chest containing the book A Hypothetical Treachery (Destruction skill book) under a grate opened by the puzzle. There’s also a skeleton that seemed to be trapped with the chest who’s fate was unclear, but I have a feeling some form of treachery was involved.

As someone who has withdrawn from Skyrim for some time now, it's good to know about the Vigilant mod. Gotta try it, especially because when I first played Skyrim years ago, and first met Vigilants of Stendarr, my immediate reaction was "Oooh... gotta join them! I hope they have a great questline." ... and that was before I knew how unfinished Skyrim truly was. I'm glad there are epic modders out there, though. Thanks for pointing the mod out, Nate.

the spookiest moment in the base game was definitely that dawn guard mission were u go to that cave to meet the snow elf and get auriels bow. U walk across that bridge, it breaks and all of a sudden ur going down a river and outta nowhere a shit load of spiders plop into the water with u. Then u end up in a big spider hive and when ur dropping down the waterfall the spiders in the cave drop down with u. I shat myself when that happened

My favorite by far was Clockwork, simply because I didn't realize what I was getting myself into. I figured it would be a nice player home with a small quest to go along with it, just so that they didn't give the player a new house for no cost. However, what I wasn't expecting was a chilling opening quest, a hugely atmospheric Dwemer dungeon, or a quest that proved to be both engaging and challenging. What I really wasn't expecting was the characterization that made me genuinely feel for the characters, even though they were simply robots with voice synthesizers. Most of all, it was the little details of the Clockwork Manor that got me, like the backstory of the house's former owner, or the surprise that greets you once you finish the main quest and are allowed back in Skyrim. By far one of my favorite mods, and one of the best experiences I've ever had with Skyrim!

I think even Bethesda themselves can be terrifying when they want to.
Like, that room in Oblivion's Vaermina's nightmare, full of upside-down corpses hanging on the ropes and there is nothing except a total dark abyss around you, save for the small column you stand upon? That thing still haunts me.

sacrosanct is a cool mod that makes being a vampire so worth it because you can down enemies in any way you see fit! Be it mowing through them, silently picking them off, or just causing chaos with spells, Sacrosanct delivers.

Honestly, Darkend is a unique Experience. The atmosphere is a huge part of it. Being on the island long enough is enough to get to me. Playing the mod for a few hours and just spending time on the bleak, grey, and overall depressing island, was enough to really make me want to go back to Skyrim and just chill in an inn. It's a great mod tbh

Protip for the sacrosanct mod and the whole draining thing: When you're forced to drain someone after not feeding for too long, use a conjured/reanimated humanoid to drain. It will die and you can just re summon it whenever you need to feed/drain someone one.

There's a character that you never see or meet in Dark Souls 2 named Pharros. I imagine that is where the name came from if it was inspired by Dark Souls. He's a mysterious character so it makes sense. He makes items called Pharros lock stones that are used to open up secret rooms in the game. Some of the rooms are traps however, so you don't know if you're going to get hidden treasure or an enemy/poison spray. Just thought I'd contribute that little bit of knowledge

*Inspired by eternal darkness sanitys requiem for the gamecube, The sanity bar goes down when you see enemies and they see you, causing the screen to tilt, loud bangs can be heard ingame, crying, blood running down walls etc and I think having this in skyrim, well let's just say it makes you more immersed when hearing your character panting, freaking out and screaming..*
*Even so I'll need time, learning how to script the sanity, voicing the races and so on.. Until then I hope you look into eternal darkness as the sanity would work amazingly well in dark caves and tombs..*

The ghost effects were a bit unimmersive due to the engine and the darven pipe repair was tedious, but in almost every other way clockwork was amazing. Better plot then most.

On the note of vampires; In Elder Scrolls Online you can encounter a vampire, and after briefly exchanging dialogue you learn that he admits to being unable to control himself, but won't kill innocents. He feeds on "those who deserve it". If you're a nice guy you can take a lesson from his viewpoint and simply devour all those damn bandits who do nothing but smack talk you and try to kill you with iron and steel swords...

Thank you for making all the videos. One thing no one seems to address about certain mods is the language and culture used. One mod was spooky to play, but the written text was god-awful and it kept using the word "satanic" which does not fit the Elder Scrolls universe. Nor do the crucifixes/crosses used as grave markers in the first mod of this video. Mod creators are great and I'm glad that they're making spooking things. But it might not hurt to have a second pair of eyes look it over before putting it out there. To me, seeing a cross in a Skyrim graveyard or reading the word 'satanic' is just as distracting as a Thomas the Tank Engine.

The guy that made the Sacrosanct mod (Which was the same guy that made the Ordinator mod) was going to make a Lycan one, but people bitched at him that Sacrosanct wasn't compatable with Better Vampires and was breaking their saves, *despite the directions for Sacrosanct saying that it isn't compatable with Better Vampires.* So, he just decided (or realized) people that download mods are just too stupid to read shit and to save him some grief didn't make a Lycan one. Because you know there was going to be people that'd complain that it might've not been compatable with Moonlight Tales..
