    I could spend the rest of my lifetime finding a better talk/lecture on any subject in existence and I will fail. It's incredible how you are able to produce a talk of this power, emotion and significance on the fly off the top of your head. You're absolutely incredible Ajahn Brahm. Forever grateful for your lifetime of service to humanity. Sadhu!

    Thank you so much Ajahn Brahn. I've lived my whole life being motivated by beating myself into subjection, with a fear of punishment. I will do work on mettha meditation now with acceptance of compassion and kindness to myself, which I was taught was cowardness. Thank you for your loving kindness!

    Thanks. :) So far I hadn't got the opportunity to read any of his books, but from his talks and other writings it is quite clear that he understands our present crisis very well. He even wrote to KFC regarding chickens. To be honest, he is the only living Buddhist teacher I know whom work I would not consider unjustly anthropocentric. This is a tough think to say, I know; but this is what I must say to clearly express my present feelings and understanding.

    Wonderful talk, self-fulfilling prophecies surely are odd creatures.

    this was a good talk, it related to me lot it is not just about the childhood notion of talking to strangers, no man, it goes much deeper than that, you see sometimes when i am having fun being an adult, i tend to shy up, not that there is anything wrong with it on days you don't have to get up early, but i sometimes i fear people are calling me a loser when i go to bed for work,

    "the real fearlessness.. you know what's going on, doesn't matter what happens..."

  • @PhoenixProdLLC
    @PhoenixProdLLC 6 років тому +1

    Very good! The use of fear as being "unethical" is a great idea! If only we could apply this idea to every human endeavor! Brahm's right. And I think that's where our governments are going so wrong worldwide. Our representatives are themselves governed by fear, so of course they're using it. In my country, they're even recommending teachers wear guns! As if their children should think they're in an actual prison everyday (vs just feeling like it sometimes :p ) . And that's *madness*! Especially in "the land of the Free". We always talk about not letting terrorists win by instilling fear and instead choose to be even more free and to laugh even more and love even more. But the gun lobby is in fear for its power over or politicians. And the forces of darkness in human nature, our greed and lust for control and power, are trying to save these politicians from being brought to Justice and to take our government down. And these same politicians want to go back to segregating society by haves and have notss, and by race and gender and religion Because their supporters, their voters who are mostly the old ones, actually believe or hope somehow if we went back to the 40s and 50s that they'd be happier, younger, richer, and they'd matter again. Even Trumps fear got him into trouble long ago when he feared not being the favorite son. When he feared going to Vietnam. When he feared not being wealthy and handsome. When he feared not getting a loan to get out of his debt, again. When he feared being old and powerless. Until he finally got to the point he feared not being feared. And beca use "the leader of the free world" is afraid of age and powerlessness and poverty, who do you think his targets for destruction are?
    The very people here who believed his lies to them. Their fears *will* be realized if the fearless in our government don't send this pseudo-leader packing. And I admit my concern - nut fear - for BSWA right now is some of them Matt not realize that by losing Brahm as their Spiritual Director, they may very well get someone in his place that causes any of *their* fears for BSWA, to be realized. :( And I'm not even a member! :p I'm not concerned for Brahm or any of the monks and nuns, so much as those who have ONLY the BSWA in Perth or the larger region. Anyway, sadhu cubed.

    Great where contexts equate, however, in some situations your first mistake would be your last(e.g. driving on a motorway) so don't get too relaxed. I know with snooker players some play better under pressure because they know how to concentrate their nervous energy, rather than others who play better relaxed(relax in order to concentrate, concentrate in order to relax). I'd recommend doing what is best for you on your own authority knowing your own neurophysiology- whatever works- be safe.

    Not only does fear cause suffering, but those who hurt others cause suffering (and they also cause a lo of fear). The unattached being, the TRUE Being, can live without fear of harm by Knowing He is not His Body... So he need not fear when it is threatened, but merely react appropriately. But he needs to "fear" something... He needs to "fear" falling asleep and doing evil in ignorance, he needs to "fear" forgetting the distinction between good and evil... and this Buddha also taught.

    i think it's a case of accepting many facts and phenomena in life and not fighting it however unpleasant. fighting unpleasant outcome only leads to disappointment - hence suffering.
    I still think it's ok to have goals and aiming, planning and working towards them, at the same time be accepting and not fight to the outcome whatever it may be and not grasp to expected outcome.

    @Redeemer10000- Hello there. I am a Buddhist monk in La Puente, CA, and I wanted to answer your question. First off you need to come to terms with the fact that all beings must die. It is a fact of nature. The Buddha taught that old age, sickness and death happen to ALL of us. To be afraid of the inevitable is irrational... Come to that realization. Secondly, we (me, even as a monk) can NEVER know what will happen when we die...

    As a lay person, and someone who is naturally peaceful and gentle, I feel I’ve been a target for exploitation and abuse for most of my life, which in turn has impacted negatively on my future in some way or another e.g. by being deceived or by others wanting to sabotage my future. I invite anyone to respond. I don’t like being angry and usually I will let go if I have been wronged or hurt and believe that Karma will sort everything out. But how does one protect them self more knowing this to be the case?

      yoomi HI: I have panic disorder also. I found the best help ever by going to a program called Recovery Int. They have a website where you can find tools to deal with your anxiety. Like realizing that it is just a feeling and not dangerous. Years ago I probably would have gotten anxiety from watching this video also. Be kind and gentle with yourself.

    So, why worry about what will happen in the future. It's like going to Disneyland, and worrying the day will end. IT WILL... But when you're there experience it to the fullest. While you are living. Be kind and compassionate. Be at peace with all that is around you... when the time here in life is over, you can look back and say: "Well done! I have lived a good life..." Then you'll be ready to move on.

    Lacking in gentle KINDNESS is why you are afraid. WHEN YOU ARE KIND TO ANYTHING, YOU DON’T HAVE ANY FEAR. WE CREATE FEAR. HOW? By being unkind. You create the FEAR that you have by your UNKINDNESS.

    the fear that my school friend is still treating me like a little young dude, even if he was just another friend, and i am still his friend and i want to stop the fear that he is telling me every morning that he ain't my daddy, just because he seemed so happy to help me keep a mojo back then, the fear i have when my family come close to me, i cut them out, mind you we are close now, but it could've been a lot brighter if i wasn't so scared of being unliked by friends if i muck with family
