  • Jimmy Carter passed away at age 100 on December 29, 2024.
In November of 2007, 83-year Jimmy Carter called into the internationally syndicated radio show I co-hosted with Verna McKay to discuss his new book “Beyond the White House”.
Key points about America’s 39th President, who served from 1977-1981:
Born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia, Jimmy grew up in a rural farming community. His family owned a peanut farm, which he worked on from a young age.
Carter did a stint in the Navy, then returned to Plains and took over the family peanut business. There were many jokes and skits in popular media when Carter was President, referring to him as “Your nutty buddy from Plains”.
Carter was involved in efforts to bring peace between Israel and the Palestinians for many decades and is best known for the Camp David Accords.
Carter also created the Panama Canal Treaties, giving control of the canal back to Panama, a fact that, as of this writing, has Donald Trump trying to figure out a way to get it back under U.S. control.
Mr. Carter and his wife Rosalynn’s “Habitat for Humanity” gathered volunteers from all walks of life to help to build homes for those in need. He also traveled the world to monitor various elections for fairness.
In recognition of his humanitarian efforts, Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
Mr. Carter has garnered his share of criticism from events like the Iran Hostage Crisis, Billygate, a scandal involving his brother, who was accused of acting as an unregistered agent for the Libyan government - the 1980 Summer Olympics Boycott in response to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, and the 1979 Energy Crisis.
Ask A.I about any of those and you’ll have the details in seconds.
We only had six minutes to discuss a few things with President Carter that day in ’07. There was SO much we couldn’t cover, but that’s showbiz. And politics.
