Serbs and other Slavs are actually ancient Canadians who crossed the Toronto landbridge circa 1500 BC, they finally reached the Mediterranean about 1300 BC. You really have to be delusional believe that Albanians were Illyrian people. Illyrian people were described by the Romans and Greeks as tell and well built people, who were drinking a lot, look at the Wikipedia or any other source by yourself- Albanians are shortest people in Europe with 174cm average for male, and same haplogroup( E ) as middle eastern people. While in other hand Dinaric Alps people (Croats,Serbs,Bosnians,Montenegrins) have on average tallest height in the world, 186cm and only people in the world with dominant i2a haplogroup. Bylliones inhabited what is today Vlorë and Fiër which is in South-West Albania. While, the Enchelii lived around Lake Ohrid which is in South FYROM and Northern Parts of Greece. The only reason why only Dalmatia was established as ‘Illyricum’ was because it was the center and the most powerful kingdom in Illyria. Tribes or nations were oftenly called like that if they lived in snowy regions. Alba was name for Scotland. I don't see any monuments in Kosovo and Metohija that were Illyrian. Actually, the Aztec heritage does survive among Mexican inhabitants and other peoples of the southern American regions. Anyone can spot this just by simple anthropology. I'm actually Greek, from Macedonia. Indigenous Macedonians are Greek, which is the view I hold as well. Though the Caucasus Theory may be prevalent, it has not been proven 100% false yet; nor has the Illyrian Theory either. Which holds the Albanian Question to interest. Regardless of the Albanian origin, I believe Greeks and Albanians are close in terms of ethnolinguistics. Whether or not Albanians migrated, or originated in "Albania" it is safe to say they share similarities with Greeks.

What makes me feel sad is the fact that Albanians are constantly trying to monopolize the paternity of this civilization. Of course Illyrians were in Albania, but not only there. Illyrians occupied almost the entire Balkan region and parts of Italy. They were in Istria, Liburnia, Dalmatia, Pannonia, Montenegro, Bosnia, Apulia... Therefore, a unified illyrian idiom never existed, since each tribe spoke their own language. The only thing these languages had in common was the fact that they all belonged to the same linguistic branch known as "Illyrian". So I think the correct term would be "Illyrian languages", and not "Illyrian language", since this last name would sounds strange just like "Germanic language" or "Celtic language", which are languages that never existed as unified idioms. Therefore, "Illyrian" is a name that was given by the Greeks. The Illyrian tribes never collectively regarded themselves as 'Illyrians', and it is unlikely that they utilized any collective nomenclature for themselves. Illyrians didn't even exist as a unified culture, since every illyrian tribe had its own culture that was later influenced by other peoples. Just take a look at the Messapians: they lived long enough in Apulia to develop a separate material culture from that one of their balkanic cousins. Therefore, they were heavily influenced by the Greeks and this melting pot generated a new people just like in the balkans, where Pannonian Illyrians were celticized and later became a new people. Albanian language may be the only survivor of the illyrian languages, but sure it wasn't the same language spoken by all the illyrian peoples and it's quite sure that illyrian peoples were very different from each other. I wasn't aware of the author's history with that kind of content. Did they try to ignore an Albanian existence in this video too? If they did, that is very unfortunate. I completely agree with you about the modern Greek identity. At the same time, I still think its fair to use the term "Greek" since it's the standard collective term we use in archaeology/anthropology and classical studies (or "Hellenic" sometimes) - despite that it wasn't used by the actual ancient populations. Kind of like how we use "Illyrian" and "Celtic" as catch-all terms for pretty diverse tribes who had cultural and linguistic affinity respectively. I attended studies of this professor and it was interesting. I also visited Lezha castle and Albania does show a lot of Illyrian traces but also Thracian and also that of Epirus. Yes, Epirots were only loosely related with the Illyrians, but the most Southern Illyrian established tribes were called the Bylliones and Enchelli.
Bylliones inhabited what is today Vlorë and Fiër which is in South-West Albania. While, the Enchelii lived around Lake Ohrid which is in South FYROM and Northern Parts of Greece. Actually, the Aztec heritage does survive among Mexican inhabitants and other peoples of the southern American regions. Anyone can spot this just by simple anthropology. But it's still not a viable comparison to make between Albanians and Illyrians with Mexicans and Aztecs because the Albanians still speak the language of their Illyrian forefathers, whereas the MesoAmerican inhabitants have seemingly lost their ancient language and have largely adopted a completely foreign language from the last 700 years or so.

What makes me feel sad is the fact that Albanians are constantly trying to monopolize the paternity of this civilization. Of course Illyrians were in Albania, but not only there. Illyrians occupied almost the entire Balkan region and parts of Italy. They were in Istria, Liburnia, Dalmatia, Pannonia, Montenegro, Bosnia, Apulia...
Therefore, a unified illyrian idiom never existed, since each tribe spoke their own language. The only thing these languages had in common was the fact that they all belonged to the same linguistic branch known as "Illyrian". So I think the correct term would be "Illyrian languages", and not "Illyrian language", since this last name would sounds strange just like "Germanic language" or "Celtic language", which are languages that never existed as unified idioms. Therefore, "Illyrian" is a name that was given by the Greeks. The Illyrian tribes never collectively regarded themselves as 'Illyrians', and it is unlikely that they utilized any collective nomenclature for themselves. Illyrians didn't even exist as a unified culture, since every illyrian tribe had its own culture that was later influenced by other peoples. Just take a look at the Messapians: they lived long enough in Apulia to develop a separate material culture from that one of their balkanic cousins. Therefore, they were heavily influenced by the Greeks and this melting pot generated a new people just like in the balkans, where Pannonian Illyrians were celticized and later became a new people.
Albanian language may be the only survivor of the illyrian languages, but sure it wasn't the same language spoken by all the illyrian peoples and it's quite sure that illyrian peoples were very different from each other. The only thing they had in common was the fact that they all spoke languages belonging to the same branch (and they maybe had the same pantheon).

I really enjoyed that this video focused on the Illyrians themselves, and not on tying prehistory/ancient history to modern nationalist movements of the 18th/19th century +. There are so few videos that discuss this archaeological culture without some bias or political agenda. I also really enjoyed the artistic depictions, which I haven't seen before. :)

Well, to be honest, the video itself is product of 19th century nationalism and political agenda with the purpose of insulting another ethnic group. But only we cant really see that because the author did his best to hide his typical behavior compared to his other comments and videos.
For example, the person who uploaded this video is a Greek, and their attempt is to deny the existence of the Albanian people and their history, while at the same time he tries to mention the word "greek" but in reality, there was no nation or people known anywhere in history as greeks prior to the 19th century.
Having said that, i would still agree that the artistic depictions are nice, but unfortunately, it only serves a negative purpose in the end.
I wasn't aware of the author's history with that kind of content. Did they try to ignore an Albanian existence in this video too? If they did, that is very unfortunate. I didn't catch it, but maybe I'm unfamiliar with their tactics. Unless I'm missing something, I still think this video is better than most - but I see your point.
I completely agree with you about the modern Greek identity. At the same time, I still think its fair to use the term "Greek" since it's the standard collective term we use in archaeology/anthropology and classical studies (or "Hellenic" sometimes) - despite that it wasn't used by the actual ancient populations. Kind of like how we use "Illyrian" and "Celtic" as catch-all terms for pretty diverse tribes who had cultural and linguistic affinity respectively.

I attended studies of this professor and it was interesting. I also visited Lezha castle and Albania does show a lot of Illyrian traces but also Thracian and also that of Epirus. The languages are not the same though they trace back to Doric Greek, Latin and influences of Bulgarian Empire.
