A truly wonderful interview. Thank you! As the great Enrico formed a theme for most of this conversation, I thought I'd relate this: During the 1920s one of the most beloved men of New York's literary and newspaper crowd was a warm-hearted minor actor and singer named Ed MacNamara. At one time the unambitious was seized by the feeling that he should develop his vocal talents. The ambition subsided but not before he had managed an informal coaching session with Caruso. He would recount the great tenor's simple recipe for successful singing: "Mac, you know what you do when you sh_t? Singing, it's the same thing, only up!"
Don Plácido! Despite the campaigns to smear his name nothing, nothing will ever erase the fact that he is El Maestro. Viva Plácido, Viva España!!

Mil gracias por compartir Pasquale. As an Italian your heart belongs to Caruso, of course, and I'm not here to change your mind. But I know you'll understand when I say, yes, Caruso was the first greatest, for a whole century basically, but no king reigns forever. His successor is, easily, Maestro Domingo. He is dependably humble about himself and his contributions to the art form of opera. What makes anyone great is not just the ability to produce all the right sounds. Everyone has the right to choose for themselves what kind of tenor they prefer, of course. But starting with just science, the greatness of Domingo is easy to establish and in agreement with the 2008 BBC Music Mag survey respondents, music critics and music professionals who all placed him at #1 on their top ten tenor lists. Maestro will die insisting Caruso is the greatest, after all, he grew up listening to and learning from Caruso. That's ok, we can lovingly agree to disagree. Paz y salud.

Domingo was the best Parzifal of all times and as Parzifal he was able to withstand the seduction of Kundry.
