Rudolph was indeed very intelligent, handsome and a brilliant dancer. Love his dance connection with Margot, his work and friendship with Andy Warhol and Jamie Wyeth (artist). Jamie captured some beautiful art pieces of Rudolph. RIP Rudolph 💙 Gone now… but always remembered and never forgotten.

Rudolph Nureyev is a most stunningly gorgeous man ... """drools""" everything about him is exquisite ... so very sad that he sacrificed his immense talent on the altar of a disease that took his life at a reasonably young age .. hearing the news on the radio of his passing while driving back from florida shocked me to the point that I had to pull over as it completely paralyzed me .... but seeing him in this particular interview on youtube: his grace, his class, his beauty ... his humor .. his incredible smile brings back bittersweet memories .. THANK YOU for posting this interview .... Rudi, I pray that you are in heaven .. with Fred Astaire .. forever ever ever more ....

But I've read countless books, articles and biographies and tabloids....you name it. .....almost to an obsession ...the guy was a total enigma ...but , with me,. It's a toss up between adoring his magnificence as an artist and dancer, or abhorring his deplorable private personal (sexual behavior and encounters ) behind the scenes. His mastery of our language is better than DC. I always admire that in any person whether they are my plumber or this beautiful man, my grandfather was Italian but became trilingual within a short time of coming to this country.

Any chance to see videos of Nureyev dancing or talking is wonderful, but I can’t believe the idiocy and lack of respect for him and for artists in general , by Global Image Works slapping their name across the screen (and his face!) for the entire interview!
    Pigs! In huge letters! Sad.
Nureyev’s charm came blazing through anyway!

    • @MBB9394
      @MBB9394 2 роки тому +5

I agree. I didn't think I would watch the whole thing because of that but then Rudy was just so the way I remember him. I was young when I first became aware of his existence, but even in my youth, he exuded and almost scary sexuality, and confidence that is just who he is. Dick Cavett was a good interviewer in one sense, and yet he is disrespectful in another way, and I feel like maybe he was one of the first, who brought in that sort of a, "people say ....or ...."
In a modern interview that is typical in my chores, of course but in that era it was quite gauche in my opinion to talk to someone who is practically a god (truly more of a hero in the Greek sense: half God and half mortal) in their world.
You're lucky he even speaks to you DC, show more respect! In his defense, though, it seems they were a bit friendly, and had some history so .... I am arguing against myself at this point, so I'll stop 😂

Cavett is so clueless and insulting. Nureyev was always a great actor. That was what made his dancing so unique and powerful - the way he embodied and acted the part and made it seem to be really happening at that moment. Unlike super-athlete-non-actor dancers like Baryshnikov.

It’s funny Nureyev said he never met Astaire when in fact he did. There’s a video on UA-cam of he and Fonteynperforming on the 1965Hollywood Palace show with Astaire as host.Whentheyfinish their performance they join Astaire on stage and hold hands with him

It was said , in literature to a person- You have a Russian soul. Now, watching Rudolf Nureyev's -Dick Cavett interview, the Russian Soul is,
    balanced , very sharp with
that sense of humor. He had
suffered; dancer? though triumph is very soul of Russian. Dick Cavet
    was very kind interviewing-
    and intelligent of manner.

This Dave Cavett or whoever, is a complete lizard, keeps licking his lips and enviously glaring at Rudolph. His questions are ridiculous and I’m glad he admits he only ever got as far as the Plymouth theatre. Rudy puts him in the shadows with no effort whatsoever.

I love dance and adored Nureyev. There was an interview sometime in 76 or 77 that I saw when it originally ran and keep hoping to find here on UA-cam. However I’m wondering if it would be possible to show these without text splashed across the center ruining things. Certainty the current or past owner of this tape could have enough class to understand placement.

I agree; celebrities tend to be more crass these days.. See the Parkinson interviews (British tv) with David Niven, Peter Ustinov, Richard Burton, Helen Mirren. (Currently there are UA-cam clips, July 2024).
Great raconteurs such as Ustinov & Niven don’t exist these days..
