Birmingham is a great city. Haven't been there since 1999. I Will have to visit one day and see its new architecture and up and coming sky scrapers. I'm from London and I usually visit Cornwall and Somerset when venturing within the UK. Birmingham is a big city and the UK's second largest after London. Its even bigger than let's say Melbourne in Australia. Melbourne is Australia's second largest city after Sydney. Birmingham is only slightly smaller than Sydney in size but has a larger population than Sydney's central business district and inner city boundaries. Birmingham population is 1.2 million compared with Sydney at 300,000.
Some great footage, my home town has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years, the damage done by the Luftwaffe and 1950s and 60s town planners is finally being repaired. Its a great city centre to walk around with so much of it now pedestrianised.

@@paulhanson5164 Sorry mate the name peaky blinders is not that of any gang's, it refers to the men's fashion of the time and even Carl Chinn a Birmingham Historian who gloated on the Peaky blinders finally backed down and explained what it was. The time this era was during the late Victorian times /Edwardian times when Birmingham like a lot of Cities were full of pick pocket Gangs made up of a lot of Irish Immigrants plus other imigrants at the time that moved into Cities like Birmingham for work and easy pickings, these gangs were similar to the Film Oliver of which there was a gang leader (Fagan) who had a group of ruffians who went about picking pockets and general break ins and shop lifting and as per Carl Chin they did not use Razor Blades in their caps as first Razor Blades had only just been invented and were too expensive so only the landed gentry could afford Razor Blades but they used Flick knives, guns and any thing else they could get hold of. The name peaky Blinder came from the as I said young men's fashion of the day, at this time nearly every man wore a Hat, a Top Hat/ Bowler Hat for the Business man or Landed Gentry, but the working class / poor men wore a flat cap with a peak, the young ruffians who were in gangs or just going about their business had a hair style that was short but they had a quiff of hair that was over one of their eyes covering one over and a peaked cap which was placed on their head at a slant to the same side as this quiff of hair so showing the blokes with one eye covered by this quiff of hair and the peak of this flat peaked cap, hense the name of this fashion called Peaky Blinder and this was explained by Carl Chinn a few years ago on You Tube about the peaky Blinders, so yes the term Peaky Blinders is real but it is not a name of any Gang,it was a name name that covered all young men with this hair style and who wore a flat peaked cap. just like Coronation Street or East Enders made up for TV, plus the Peaky Blinders Series was not even filmed in Birmingham but in Liverpool, Manchester and Dudley. The only true part of Peaky Blinders was in the Early part of the Series was when an Irish Police Inspector was bought over from Belfast / Northern Ireland to take over running the Birmingham City Police Force to try and quell these Gangs, Steele House Lane Police Station which is now a museum and a few pubs mentioned, the rest is fictitious as no Irish Family run Birmingham wearing a machine gun over his shoulder riding a horse through the streets. I have read loads of books on Birmingham's History, watched loads of DVD's and Video's on the History of Birmingham and being a Birmingham Citizen all my life and interested in my Cities History, I can tell you that Edwardian Ruffian gangs are mentioned but nothing is mentioned about peaky blinders because as Carl Chinn found out it was just a fashion thing for young men in Edwardian Times and any mention has only come up because of these silly TV Show.
