- The restoration of a World War 2-era steam locomotive, Number 576, is forging ahead at full speed, as it finally receives its wheels back.
In 1967 my father and I visited Nashville, and I climbed aboard this locomotive! I was 8 years old! Fond memories!
Father, brother and I got off a train in Nashville at least 4 decades ago, while there we drove to the park and viewed this locomotive and took a few photos. If you have a heart whenever you see a cold steam locomotive one hopes people will one day bring her back to life. Have machined parts for vintage aircraft though unfortunately never for my main interest which is railroads.
Preserving our history = priceless
I am down here in Aussie land. These are my all time favourite U. S . Steam locomotives. Have so much admiration for these , so versatile beautiful locomotives. Keep up the good work👌
It's great that the locomotive is being restored and a vintage train such as this deserves it. It would be great seeing it on America's rail lines once again. These locomotives and trains are worth it.
You are so right down the rail line, All aboard🚂🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃
If i could have played on something like that in the park when i was a kid i would have never left the park.
Awesome!!! Hope it goes well!
I took my son's to see this in Centennial Park when they were young and now I'm SO excited to think they will be able to take their children and grandchildren to see this magnificent steam engine!
This is something worth every penny of Nashville tax dollars!!
I’m definitely revisiting it upon its return
@@RabbitWatchShop did they mention when it will be done?
I'm not sure. @@walkinbeauty7273
@@walkinbeauty7273I know that they are more than halfway done so give it maybe a couple years and it’ll be operational.
Thank you for your support and we're excited to host you some day! So far, the restoration has been completely funded by private donations and no tax dollars have been used on the project.
It's not a train until there's a lot of rolling stock behind it. That is just a locomotive
According to G.C.O.R. a train is a locomotive or any combination of locomotives and rolling stock.
Okay I stand corrected
has a clearance and orders. Ps a group of locomotives together is called a power move!
Go sit down and shut up mate
Too bad I am too young to help restore this beauty, I just love watching steam locomotives get overhauled and restored. It is almost mesmerizing to see all the individual parts and old technology
Very Cool
I wish you folks a good fund raiser and good success in the rebuilding project. I owe what I know about railroads to steam specifically the Texas State Railroad.
I used to have the connections to ride with the crew anytime. Those connections are gone but the memories are still with me as well as the rail knowledge I gained from working with the early 20th century equipment; good times.
Great to see another Northern-type (4-8-4) locomotive coming back into steam! Joining the ranks of SP 4449, ATSF 3751, ATSF 2926, UP 844, MILW 261, NW 611, Reading 2102, and any others I might have missed!
I have enjoyed watching Keith Rucker's UA-cam channel as he rebuilds the steam stoker engine for this engine. Nice work.
I’m a retired locomotive engineer and it bugs me to no end to hear people calling everything they see on the tracks A TRAIN! A caboose is not a train a rail car is not a train a conductor is not an engineer! And no a locomotive is not a train. Look it up in the rule book!!!
Shut it train nerd
I can't wait to see it Running. It's a shame Johnny Cash isn't around to take a ride when it's done. Maybe they could invite his family for one when it's done.
Dad and I used to visit 576 at the park when I was a kid. We're looking forward to when she's operational again.
This is the train that was at Centennial Park for years? LOVED that one. Multiple generations here visited it.
Not a train!
I've seen this historic steam locomotive at Centennial Park two times and again back in April during the Open House and Model Train Show. I'm really excited for this locomotive return to steam in the near future.
Looks ugly as hell, would be more useful to be melted down for scrap and turned into utensils to feed starving children.
I hope that when it returns to traveling the rail lines once again it tours all 48 states here in America. I remember that in 2010 around the Spring time a steam engine train passed through my hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas USA. I hope that it passes through my hometown of Corpus Christi once more. It was announced that a steam engine train passed by. On the way back it passed by on its way back to either Victoria or San Antonio, Texas. That's when I got to see it because it had gone to Kingsville, Texas for a celebration. That's 50 miles South of Corpus Christi, Texas. Those trains are a sight to behold as it was tooting its whistle it was making it's presence known on the rails of Corpus Christi, Texas. From a distance you could hear its chugging noise as people were gathered along the track.
Very cool can’t wait to see it under steam!
Awesome stuff! Greets from Australia.
I can't wait to see this beautiful engine running again
That train is important to Nashville history.❤❤❤
Love to See and Hear she’s Coming Back.
Now this is something worth funding for
Always good to restore a legendary old iron.
Love it!! Keep the updates coming!!
I hope to visit it , all the way from GB 🇬🇧
I was lucky enough to see how massive these locomotives are when I stood in the shadow of the " big boy " 4014 it stopped overnight in my city . 🚂
I love coal fired steam locomotives. Closest you'll ever get to a truly living mechanical monster!
Cost wise, coal isn't a great choice since if you convert to oil, you can use old motor oil as part of bunker fuel to run these locomotives. And that's way cheaper and significantly cleaner.
Or better yet, used vegetable oil. US Sugar Corporation in Florida is using it to power their steam locomotive, former Florida East Coast 148, and soon former Atlantic Coast Line 1504.
This is a GREAT project! 😎
Yes!!! Thank you!!!! YESSSSS!!!
*sniff sniff* it's beautiful 🥺
4-8-4s bore the hell out of me. And it's all we seem to restore in the U.S.
Union Pacific?
Any further word on the turn table they planned on installing to turn 576 around on excursions, also, will 576 operate anywhere else
I can’t wait to run it
Awesome news, hope it goes well!
They should get it new name plates calling it johnny cash in his memory for helping save the engine from scrap
Need to run it down through Easley South Carolina when it's done. We would enjoy seeing the 576.
From speaking to members working on it, Davidson County still owns it and it's part of the agreement it has to be housed in Davidson County.
I'm not sure if they're going to allow it to travel
@@Shadowtiger2564 we can travel!
Very cool.
News seems to have forgotten some major English lessons.
Who, what, when, where and why.
News stations always assume we know where they are reporting from.
In today’s Information Age a key point is we don’t know who you are unless you tell us.
Greetings from the high plains of Texas.
It's a locomotive not a train
It still applies as a train whether or Not Rolling stock is behind it, The term train is also used for the Locomotive.
Oh shut up mate
Why do “news” people always refer to a locomotive as a “train?”
.
They aren’t railfans
They’re also speaking out of ignorance too.
@@diddlebug7241 facts
because to the general public, "train" is the locomotive, its easier for them to get more publicity
@@doge_sevens man people are dumb lol (LISTEN ITS A JOKE)
Boomers were infants and toddlers when steam locomotives were taken out of service.
Giant locomotive
576 is his baby
Finally some good fuckin news.
Y'all need to do more 576 stories just for the UA-cam views! 😂
Is beautiful train
Another UA-cam channel is rebuilding the stoker engine.
Epic.
Is this the Orange blossom special .😉
Maybe the operation of this loco will encourage movement on a commuter rail or amtrak connection in Nashville
NexNext goal get new York central 3001 running again
Glory day
The whistle world sound like like the loudest one is
I wonder if that old gal was a Louisville and Nashville or Southern or Frisco locomotive. And these guys are probably working on their great-grandfathers train. Thinking about the guys who worked on her before
It was built for the Tennessee Central.
It was built for the Nashville, Chattanooga, & St. Louis Railway (N.C.& St.L.)
@@ronselliers6951NC&STL
@@didyou555 The Frisco
@svenmartin840 Where'd you get Frisco from? The 576 was built for the Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis to haul freight and passenger. By this time, the N.C.& St.L. was partially owned by the L&N and, finally, in 1957, merged into the Seaboard, then to CSX.
How do steam locomotives deal with PTC? Isn't that totally required on every mainline train in the US today?
They slap a diesel locomotive behind it and call it a day
The Big Boy has it installed. I know the 844 was MU equipped so Steve Lee could control the diesels when needed for assistance or Dyno’s for braking. It is interesting that electronic technology can be seamlessly incorporated into steam technology nowadays.
It's such a shame that this is the only one left. My Great Great Grandfather worked the lines that train ran on. It's awesome to see that it's being fully restored to its full functionality. What a job. Can't wait to see it finished. 🥲
YES
OH GOD YES
I would like to see a statue of Paul Rubin's character (Pee Wee Herman) placed on I 65 where the ugly statue of Nation Bedford Forrest was. He would welcome people to Nashville with love and kindness.❤❤❤
🤠💁♂Man. I have to plate that cast iron.
🤔💁♂Like? Bronze is a case metal, no: plateable, I think..?
It's an engine, or, if you want to use big words, a locomotive.
Anyway, good luck to these guys.
she's gonna be steamed again.
Next goal get new York central 3001 back to life
What happened to the paint?
Don't worry, they'll paint it back after all the work on it is done.
Instead of asbestos insulating the boiler, I’d use woven Kevlar. Donning such a work glove and then a rubber glove will allow a person to stick their hand in 170 F water and seemingly never get hot. I had our cute EHS officer do it and she wanted to stick her hand in the ultrasonic tank again.
What you have here is NOT a train Mister announcer. It is a RR locomotive.
Yippee
REEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Locomotive. Not a train. I know this comment is annoying but that terminology is just wrong
It's wrong either way, the term train Could apply to Locomotive and Rolling stock Both.
Nerd 🤓 🤓 🤓 🤓 sit down and shut it
I cringe, almost start crying, when I see those beauties being left the rust and worse, getting dismantled. I don't care what anyone says, they have souls. So, when they got dismantled, the people who did it were committing murder
Cut it up for scrap
Yes
