Wyatt Earp // Curly Bill Shootout Site Visited // Mine Canyon and Iron Spring
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 бер 2022
- Most of us have heard of Wyatt Earp's vendetta ride against the Cowboys gang, some of us know that Wyatt killed Curly Bill. But how many of us have visited the alleged site of that shootout? Come with us as we head into Mine Canyon in the Whetstone Mountains in southern Arizona. We visit Mescal Spring (known as Iron Spring in the 1800's) and the most probable spot of the vicious shootout between the Earp posse and the Cowboy gang. Along the way, we run up into the mountain and visit an abandoned mine site. History just drips from this area of Arizona, and we attempt to bring it to you. Thank you to viewer bob c for tipping me off to this trail!!!

Don’t think so. Actually was Cottonwood Springs. Please see Bob Boze Bells investigation video that uses same map you did plus actual Wyatt Earp description of site and events of the day plus his and cohorts travels to the sites. He disproves Iron Springs (Masqual Springs) as being the location, rather Cottonwood Springs matches exactly.
Now where is Curly Bill buried, bones left in the desert?
@@sue_downing555 Agree as to Cottonwood being the site and still has remnants of the old line shack Wyatt described. It's been a confusing location for years as there are 3 springs in that general area. As to where Curly Bill is buried, there are 2 stories on that. Recently a single make shift grave has been found not far from Cottonwood Springs with an unmarked wooden headstone that dates back to late 1800's. It's yet to be determined who it might be, that will take time, but some believe it's Curly Bill. The other story claims witnesses that Curly Bill was buried at one of the nearby Ranch houses present at the time, the name escapes me right now.
So true! I’ll go with Bell on this one!
yes i believe cottonwood spings because 4 horshoes was found there remember the horse that was shot and fell on one wyatts posse members
also buckshot and .45 caliber bullets have been found in the area
Same mistake they made with the Gunfight at the OK Corral, as it didn’t take place at or near it.
The actual shootout took place outside of CS Flys Photography
Great video but maybe take out some of the driving 👍🐄🐮
Thanks for sharing this, Glenn. You had a nice cross section of vehicles on the trip too. History is even better when you get to be at a famous spot, contested or not.
Thank you Mike!
Great video! I always appreciate when people accurately know their history.
It's the wrong area, it's cottonwood springs, not that location
I’ve been to Iron / Mescal Springs and Cottonwood Springs. Cottonwood Springs is the correct location.
According to eugene cunningham men camped at the spring tell a different story saying curly bill was in mexico building a ranch there was a woman there he wanted to marry. They say there was only 4 men at the springs, They traded shots at wyatt the only 1 who fired and nobody died.
Born in 1957 I grew up with 4 names. Williams,Yaz, Orr and Wyatt Earp. Thank you for your video, very well done. He’s a hero of mine. 🇺🇸🖖let’s go Brandon
Thank you for looking for the Iron Springs shoot out site. Does Bob Boze Belll have any further information? Will you shoot a video of the Chandler Milk Ranch Shootout site and detail that action?
This controversy has been going on for years as to actually where the gunfight took place. I wish a scholar (professional) would do a deep dive into it and solve the puzzle once and for all. I come down to the Patagonia, Sonoita, Harshaw, Lochiel areas and would like to go to where the actual site is if its ever located. Thanks for your videos.
Bob Boze Bell claims the spot is cottonwood springs. Any chance that is close to mescal spring?
As the crow flies, they are pretty close, but there is a mountain in between. That is where the rub lies. According to Wyatt's timeline, there is no way they could have been in Cottonwood Springs as they would have had to go around that mountain to get there. It is all part of the legend I suppose.
I think it’s cottonwood as well
What a lot of people and researchers don't realize for some reason, after all they are researchers, that the current highway SR82 which connects near where the Earps were staying goes around the south end of Whetstone mountains. That road has been there since the 1850s as a dirt road then. It was an old military road to some forts west of there built so that the military could protect the area better. The Earps wouldn't have rode across straight to that area in that difficult terrain when all they had to do is use a nice well worn road
It was actually at cotton wood springs where this happened..
Glad to see you had a chance to adventure up Mine Canyon. Hope you had fun !
We had a blast! I really appreciate the tip. I should have acknowledged that this trip was recommended by a viewer.
Amazing that those individuals travelled around those backlands with horseback and jumpt each other. Cutting someone in half with shotgun ?, maybe with solid charge, not with pellets.
As Mr. 100 says below, Cottonwood Springs and not Iron Springs appears, by the topography, to be the actual killing site.
I watched a vid the other day from a historian and he said that it was Cottonwood Springs.
@@TimSmith-uc4pk Yes, from the description Wyatt gave of the area it matches Cottonwood. Sounds like Iron springs has none of the landscape features that Wyatt speaks of. Great video, thanks !
Well thank you for all your hard work. I subscribed because I enjoyed this content, reminds me of my younger days .
Thank you John!
Man ! It amazes me how people had to of gotten around back then ??
I believe it was Cotton woods spring most probably
So saw some information that was it was cotton spring were the fight toke place, Its the place that is describe by Wyatt Earp in the book and was found in 2002, iron springs does match what Earp describes in the book
Nice video… but your in the Wrong spot. The site was Cottonwood Springs!
I thought the location was proved to be Cotton Wood Spring and not Iron Spring as first depicted by WE....?
tuned in for wyatt earp but just felt like watching a jeep commercial lol
If ya wanna tune in to Wyatt Earp, tune in to Wyatt Earp.
Well done!
That was a really good drive and a good test for the Tacoma.
It was impressive for sure, even though you went around the big rocks 😁
Looks like a fun adventure. Thanks for sharing!
It was! Thanks for commenting!
those green bushes are mesquite, non-native water suckers, pull those and the springs start again, those hills are probably on a quartz slab that angles the water underground to the low point and probably some kind of other quarts barrier to force the water up, the mesquite roots soak up water that should run underground to the spring start point
Very interesting....but why that springs to meet...how accessible was spring in those days....I wonder what road would have used in those day to get there from Tombstone....
Bob Boze Bell thinks it was Cottonwood Springs not Iron Springs.
Awesome video brother
Thank you Todd!
Not sure that's correct. Checkout True West Vids. The owner of the magazine went looking for this same site. He believes Earp drew the map wrong. He did find what he believes is the actual site. According to Earp there should have been a cabin there. I didn't see a cabin. Did you?
You would think if that was really the place there would be some kind of marker or plaque. It's a huge part of history.
Changes in geography. It would have been greener in the 1880’s. The springs and stream would have had more surface water. Since electrification water tables have dropped as irrigated agriculture pumps have lowered the water table
I think Wyatt Earp probably got there faster on a horse than you guys did in Jeep’s. Lol 😂
Don’t think so!
Is that the same road that goes to Counsil Rocks ?
Council rocks are in the Dragoon Mtns. This video was shot in the Whetstone Mtns.
It's cottonwood springs , you have the wrong location.
Judging from Wyatt Earp's description of the place where he shot Curly Bill, it was Cottonwood Springs. Nontheless, this is a great video of some very wild country. I must say, I don't think I'd want to take my old 4WD Bronco on that road.
Does anyone really believe another of Earp's tall tales ? ? Curly Bill died in Paris Texas in 1909.
You don't know this as fact because you weren't there.
Pretty sure I made mention of that, but this is the most probable spot. Wyatt documented the day fairly well, but there is some question as to what happened to Curly Bill's body and such.
May God bless National Forest land and all of its socialist implications.
I am bored I am going to go take a nap now.
What a waste ..I won't be watching anymore these.cya
OK, bye!
Ride a 🐎can I have my wasted time back.
