I’ve always said you can do Fallout anywhere. It’s the ethics and “where do we go from here”, here being a world that had a longer Cold War and a sort of cultural stasis around the 40s-60s, that drained the world and went hot, but EVERYONE experienced the Cold War, everyone had a 40s-60s, everyone was involved and affected. It’s not just an American thing, that question is applicable everywhere - all it takes is a bit of extrapolation. This hits what I’d imagine China is like to a tee.
Which are 2 things that Bethesda lacks, Fallout has so much potential with what can be done, but Bethesda just can't (or won't) do anything with it, aside from making lore retcons and not making it as much of an RPG as the older games were. That's where the community shines like with the Sonora, Nuevo Mexico and Olympus 2207 mods (not sure about the London mod) As for the settings, i definitely think it is possible to set Fallout in other places (when done well, like Nuevo Mexico and London)
An important detail to remember is that there would have been a lot of American soldiers stranded in China once the nukes started flying. I could see one of the factions being made up of the descendants of the American soldiers stationed there.
While Fallout is set specifically in America. The London and Sonora mods changed my mind. And honestly a Fallout game set in China has alot of potential if done right (without Bethesda of course) From the locations, to the factions (there's quite alot of flavors that can be inspired by 1920s warlords, also I'd recommend Rise Of The White Sun for that), to the weapons (there's quite a variety like the Type 81 AK, Type 86 bullpup AK, Type 85 SMG, Type 77 pistol, Shanxi Type 17 carbine/pistol, QBZ-95 bullpup rifle, QJY-88 LMG, QBU-88, QJZ-89 HMG, QTS-11, FHJ-84 icendiary double barreled rocket launcher, etc.) And of course copies of chinese power armor (varying from direct copies to original designs)
Fallout Australia would probably just be Mad Max. Funnily enough, I think Australia probably wouldn't get bombed too much. Population isn't very large and is pretty spread out (a bit of an Australian joke is that if you're going to nuke us aim for Canberra since we put all the politicians in one place). That being said, the could go the route of having more of an _On the Beach_ style event happens where Australia is spared the bombs, but fallout from the Northern Hemisphere is slowly blown southwards.
I was expecting some Chinese PA at the end, but I didn't expect this, it was even better. Kudos for the accurate title and not some bullshit clickbait. Now I want to play the game or at least see something from this world.
Because China is communist and Vault tec is a critique of capitalism (in the original source, in the Amazon show it’s just a caricature) the “equivalent” would be the opposite, a critique of communism. Unless you mean a pre-war shelter/remnant, something you find in the wasteland, lore/pre war “faction”, or hotspot for inhumane social excitements. These probably won’t all be one thing. I think they could be any of the following (in the same order): The prewar shelter would probably be excluded to government and political figures and fortified under important government buildings instead of hidden throughout the wasteland. As a organized, industrial government instead of a individualistic society, it would probably be much more organized and rudimentary, so there wouldn’t be anything randomly “hidden” in the wasteland from the pre war, leaving all sorts of possibilities from the post war that can define with what little we know. The Chinese government is very controlling and possessive of everything, a separate entity can’t pop up and gain sufficient power like in capitalist countries. So it could be a organized coup, underground organized crime, shadow government, or revolutionaries causing a civil war which would explain why China lost in the previous war (a communist country is better equipped wage war because it’s already completely and greater organized to focus all it’s might by order of the government, hence why Soviet Russia was able to continue rapidly growing from a back-watered nation of starving surfs to a global super power dispute being at war with half the entire earth.) As for lore/prewar faction, I think multiple different nuclear bunkers likes the vaults could become factions fighting for power over the wasteland like Chinese warlords, the life in American vaults were meant to be appealing to middle class Americans, Chinese bunkers would be VERY different, they’d probably be harder living, higher occupancy, militaristic bunkers. And it would be super ironic that American vaults being practically Communist, tight communities, if Chinese bunkers were practically capitalist, divided, company towns that used the barter system. A hotspot for inhumane social experiments? This is where it gets messy, America is actually big on inhumane social experiments, and eugenics, and racism, and definitely nationalism, and imperialism, and fascism, and even sexism, even without comparing it to other first world countries. Hell, Eugenics CAME from The United States Of America, Nazi Germany’s Eugenics, racism, anti-semitism, and possibly imperialism and nationalism was INSPIRED by America, if it weren’t for America, there would probably have the holocaust (you might not notice if your American but if you read more of our history, America is NOT the good guys and hasn’t been for decades). The only other countries that WERE as big on inhumane experiments aren’t even the same anymore, Soviet Russia, Nazi Germany, and Imperial Japan, so there probably wouldn’t be any inhumane experiments China. China is extremely different from America. The original fallout is actually very literary and deep, it is a satire of America, Vault Tec and The Enclave are satires of many negative aspects of America, (that’s why fans of the original Fallout, Fallout 2, and New Vegas hate the Amazon show, it’s not deep and compelling, it’s just action and fun) so these moulded and defined Fallout, even though Fallout has changed, the social commentary laid the groundwork for Fallout so without it, there is no Fallout. Fallout Red would be extremely different from Fallout in America to still be Fallout, it would need something deep to say at it’s foundation or won’t feel like Fallout, even it would be more similar to modern Fallout, it would just be a shoot em up’ with a generic, Chinese post-apocalypse backdrop and the same mechanics. God, I love Fallout’s world building.
@@PaulPrisbrey China also had genetic and biological experiments. The whole reason America got into the whole FEV thing, was because of the information that the Chinese were doing something similiar.

An Fallout mod or game set in China would be awesome. We never got to explore much with other counties out of mods like Fallout London or the Board game. As we know from the Fallout Bible, China was nuked aswell, hitting the mainland the hardest and the President of China basically disappeared. It would be great to see a story set up in post-war China to show more of the events there, because we know basically everything about life in Pre war US but nothing about life in Asia or Europe.
Captain Zhao from the submarine already answer you call. We are likely to meet bunch of stubborn chinese citizen who believe the war is still going, or at least the remaining government said so. Properly gonna meet some pre-war german engineer gaul who are tired of war just want to grow vegetable with his chinese wife. We can also run into some American trader who is actually 200 years old, and secretly working for Chinese government with their pre-war nano tech about stealth tech and bio-shape shifting. You know, that's how he live so long and spying during the pre-war time. Ahhh, I wish these could be ture. If only my modding skill is ever enough to make it happend.
@@john48rice84 Zhao was trapped in Boston Harbor for 200 years and hadn't been back to China so he doesn't really count. But it's fun to speculate. I would imagine that a post-war China would have its own version of the Enclave, a continuance of the government but I'd bet there'd be an organized resistance more like with real world Republic of China/Taiwan that would want to oppose the Chinese Enclave as they blame them for the state of the world and want to prevent them from potentially continuing the war. That's what I would bet on.
@ Maybe but a new ROC-like movement could rise in its place. Or they could have also pulled an Enclave and had members survive into the post-war era to mount a rebellion against the CCP based Enclave. This is all fun theorizing of course. But I would hope a more ROC-like, or at least an anti-communist faction would exist in a Fallout China game.
@@Boskov01 There’s not a chance in hell that the PRC didn’t survive in some way or another. We see several entries in 3 alone where we get a strong idea of what the government was like- favoring party loyalty to anything else. The masses suffered from starvation and famine, while the elite lives in luxury. Since Bethesda obtained the licence to Fallout, they’ve done a fantastic job at demonstrating that the differing ideologies between Capitalism and Communism tore the two countries apart from the inside- America in the sense that only the chinese could be spies, despite their own ideaology making being a spy a better choice and China in that the people are only useful as tools for the benefit of the elite.

The graphical quality/fidelity of this trailer made it seems like it will be playable in the top-down, isometric/cavalier oblique perspective and turn-based combat much like Fallout 1, 2, and 2's total mod conversion (1.5 Resurrection, Nevada, Sonora etc etc)
Oh, what I wouldn't give to play it
wow how the hell does this only have 200 views its incredible
I've been wanting a Fallout game that takes place in China for so long. I want this to be real so bad
Damn that was way cooler than I expected
Missed opportunity to call it "Fallout: Across the Sea" because it's... y'know. across the sea - but especially considering you opened with the song.
Ngl I would actually play this
Would be funny if they add like a Beretta pistol but a unique variant is exclusively only dual wielded.
This looks phenomenal!!
THIS SI GORGEOUS.. THIS NEEDS TO BE A GAME
1:39 GYAAT... GYAAAT NEVER CHANGES
Starts with a bioshock kinda song, but makes sense due to how China used submarines
I imagine mao Zedong would turn into cyborg on this fallout universe
I’d buy and play that game. What an excellent trailer, well done!
Well, now I wanna see more of this.
Stealth armor is a nice touch
An Fallout mod or game set in China would be awesome. We never got to explore much with other counties out of mods like Fallout London or the Board game.
As we know from the Fallout Bible, China was nuked aswell, hitting the mainland the hardest and the President of China basically disappeared.
It would be great to see a story set up in post-war China to show more of the events there, because we know basically everything about life in Pre war US but nothing about life in Asia or Europe.
Now that would be great if they actually had a fallout game that took place in China and honestly honestly I think it would be awesome
To be fair, that's likely a pre war helmet from invading us forces.
Incredible work
It would be interesting to see how the Chinese fared in the Great War.
@@Boskov01 I doubt any ROC feeling would last long in that universe, probably they'd already be defeated pre-war.
Since Bethesda obtained the licence to Fallout, they’ve done a fantastic job at demonstrating that the differing ideologies between Capitalism and Communism tore the two countries apart from the inside- America in the sense that only the chinese could be spies, despite their own ideaology making being a spy a better choice and China in that the people are only useful as tools for the benefit of the elite.
bro this looks fucking awesome good shit
He’s back!
I'd pay to play this. Bethesda just sits on their game engines, makes one game, then twiddles their thumbs. Just look at the success of New Vegas
that head turn made me think of the outer worlds 2 trailer
Can't wait to see a mutated John Cena bing chilling!
This would be a awesome idea for a game you could even use the go to fallout thing ware the goal is to fix water problems and expand the faction system because all the warlords that would instantly pop up
THE CHINESE STEALTH ARMOR YESSS
Do love the american power armor as a tombstone, nice attention to detail about the lore.
this is very cool. I'd definitely play this.
Now this... is RAD and so would an actual Fallout game like this be. (Get it?)
Always would've loved to see what's going on in the rest of the Fallout world. First Fallout London and for now this will be the closest thing we have to a Fallout set in China.
Honestly, wouldn’t mind dropping a bit of money on that
this would actually make me excited about fallout again... i won't get my hopes up. north american developers don't have the guts to make a mainline game set in china
Because they would pump full of so much anti-socialist/communist and reactionary garbage, it would burst.
@Tongzhi_BellaLabDog1995 in any communist country yo would be the first to go, tell me how are lgbt rights in china?
Stealth suit Chinese? Would be interesting to see that intersect with the Dark Forest theory applied to the post apocalyptic China
This will sadly never happen outside of fan projects like Fallout London.
