In either the late 1980s or early '90s, my band was booked to open up for GG at a show in SOHO NY, at a club called "The bank." SO we drove up from DC, parked near the club, had some great NY pizza, as one member of our band went in to talk details with the club's owner. While inside the club, there was also a guy with a 16mm movie camera who was working on a documentary about Allin. The club owner asked the filmmaker what was so special about this guy, and he spoke about his stage antics. The club owner immediately said "Show's cancelled, that isn't happening in my club!" So we went back home without playing. We had planned to leave right after our set anyway. While waiting in the van, we got to hear one of our songs played on one of those college radio stations on the far left of the dial.

Also, yes, GG was in prison from 1989 to early 1991, and then again from Feb '92 to March '93.

Might be that or that lights and speaking weren't allowed after sundown, or the fact that joy, pleasure, and children's toys were treated like a sin, or that his father dug graves in the basement and threatened to murder/suicide the entire family, or....
Point being, GG had an unfortunately messed up childhood.

I always said, his wife left him, he processed the heartache with " I wanna rape all women" vibe. I watched as he progressively changed. On purpose. Reminded of the segment in the "Hated" doc where in the middle of all the insanity GG gets a guitar and plays a plaintive; very moving version of Warren Zevon's " Carmalita." Real emotional honesty that blew me away. Himted at emotions he wouldn't or couldn't express otherwise. Was he tired of the act but couldn't figure a way out of it?

He was heading down that country path it seemed. Carnival of Excess I really love. Great songs on there. Unfortunately, most people just remember the jockstrap and poop GG. But GG was a fame whore and knew the more outrageous his antics became..the more press he would get. You think if he wasn't shitting on stage those talk shows would have book him? It was starting to work..getting fame..then he OD'ed.

Really wish he stayed with you guys. When he got the Murder Junkies together, he was just pure animalistic, musics basically unlistenable. His antics were just so ridiculous, you’re right, all for the camera. But still, G was the man.

I was working in an independent record store in San Diego in 1990 when GG Allin came to town. We used to go see a lot of free shows back then because the store sold tickets. Some of the other people at the store went, but I hadn't heard anything by GG Allin that would actually make me want to go see him. So I passed.
The next day, one of our regulars came in with these brown stains on his shirt. He said "You see THAT?!? That's GG's shit!"
I told him he would have to leave because I was pretty sure it was a health code violation to have him in there. I had to think up something because I didn't want this guy walking around the store forcing other people to smell GG's shit.
Another guy from a different record store - who was REALLY big - came in and I knew he probably went to the show. So I asked him, "How was it?" He told me he had never been so scared in all his life and gave me all the details.
GG came out buck naked except for cowboy boots and then sort of impaled himself on the leg of an overturned chair. He grabbed a woman, smashed her face in his crotch, took a dump and then began throwing it at people. At that point, pandemonium broke out with people running for cover under the pool tables. Then there was a crush at the exit. The cops were quickly called but by the time they arrived, he was gone.

I thought this of GG aswell, always was a performance artist to me. In the world of Rock n roll animals, Von Lmo might be the most authentic lunatic. Whoever was his friend at one point, they will warn you to avoid him and forget about him. The people who knew him who respect him are as schizophrenic as him. That side is shown in the von lmo documentary made on a small budget by someone who admired him. Just for anybody interested in over the top personalities von lmo did not belong in this universe.
