He paints exactly what the masses think art is. The masses have not seen much more than Van Gogh's and Dali's works.
Painting like Hockney is certainly easy compared to many famous masters. Most could learn it in a matter of a month.
Regarding the subject...choosing the Grand Canyon, such a well known spot, so common-culture is not very different than Warhol's Marilyn Monroe or the Coca-Cola.
I've got to disagree. Firstly Hockney and Warhol are contemporaries, this is literally an extension of the artistic thought they themselves pioneered. Secondly this is a presentation of the experience of the grand canyon rejecting photorealism purposely. It would be counter intuitive for him to paint it with the old master techniques, might as well not paint it at all. You don't need to like the art but to dismiss it because of it's accessible palette and composition seems short sighted.

He's so taken with his own self-perceived cleverness........yawn. The painting looks like a community collage project.
