Great video! Love to see how you do the near impossible. In my high school woodshop program we muscle the logs, but I have a mini skid steer on order. I can't believe the support I get from the community now that we mill our own logs for our woodshop program.
Matt and Dad ... I really enjoyed watching the two of you working together! Matt, Dad seems to have a lot of love for you and is very proud of how you have turned out ... and Dad, Matt shows his love, respect and friendship to you in return ... thanks for taking the time to make this video!
Idk what's better. The actual wood slabbing, or the time that you get to spend with your dad doing what you love. I miss my dad, lost him in 2015. Spend all the time you can, while you can, with those you love.
@@JasonRSpenny me too. And the cussing I got when I didnt do it his way lol. It was always funny and we both laughed at each other. But that's what you get when you mix a Marine(dad) and a Sailor(me).
I hear ya, my Superman died in 09 man what I would give to spend time with my dad again. I just love seeing people spend time with their parents as adults.
So true. When I was young, my parents moved us out of the city and we built the house a pretty much grew up in. I spent much of my childhood in the shop with my dad, making all the cabinets and trim work for the house. I lost him in Sept 2014, miss him everyday, especially when I am out in the shop.
Thanks for the bit at the end about your childhood with your dad. From 6-12yrs old I was around my dad every waking hour on the farm. I learned so much just hanging around him, being a 2nd set of hands. Learned all the blades and wrenches and sockets and trees from him. He's been gone over 20 yrs now, but I still cherish those times. RIP pop. Thanks for everything. Miss you.
I’ve watched a lot of your videos but this by far is my favorite. Your dad was so overwhelmed with how big that tree was but so excited to help you. Great father son bonding memory for you both, thanks for sharing. You have a great helper, let’s get him back on some more videos :)
God bless you and your family. Back in 1969 I was 10 years old. My Dad decided to build another bathroom down in our finished basement. But it was actually a double job, dismantle the upstairs bathroom and it's fixtures, and carry them all downstairs for the "new" bathroom. And start putting in the upstairs fixtures as they came in. I was a big kid, very strong, my father was surprised when I lifted my end of the iron claw foot bathtub and said "Let's go" And promptly carried it down stairs. A lot of carpentry, plumbing, and tile work and it took us 3 weeks to finish both bathrooms. He was proud of me, It is one of my moments that I'll never forget. Remember the jobs you do with your Dad. Cherish the moment.
nothing better than spending time with family, doing something together, that you love.. Makes me wish i had my father around, to be able to enjoy doing things like this together..
Great day with your dad. My dad was never around so I shadowed my grandfather and two uncles. My grandfather had a saw mill during the depression and that’s what are used to pay for his house and feed five kids. My oldest uncle built furniture and design furniture for southern Vermont furniture a half a century ago. My other uncle had a Farm with 70 milk cows. All three of them together gave me a wonderful education on how a person can survive using his hands to work. I see that your father also gave you a wonderful heritage.
I have to agree with the other comments. Being able to spend quality time with your Dad is something you will never get back. My Dad died young in 1979. This video brought back precious memories. You are fortunate to have all these videos to watch some day when you are old. Great job, again !!!
Matthew - thank you for sharing your Thanksgiving family adventure. From your Moms intro to your Dads sweat, hard work and the old time family photos. Please, please, please continue the tradition and hold these days tightly to your heart as the value of these memories will increase exponentially. Matt dont take for granted to work with your dad, those are times you will never have a second chance to do. I miss my dad when he worked at his shop, and now I have taken up wood working and my electronics to make them work together to create really cool and nice things. Seeing you work with your dad is something I miss and can not do with my dad since he passed away.
Great video Matt. I'm 70 now and my dad left us in 2007 at 95. I wish he was still around so we could do things together like you do with your dad. Enjoy and love your parents while you can. Seeing you with your family was the best part of the video.
Never take for granted the relationship you have with your father. He clearly supports you and loves you. Your outro, i'm sure, would be well received by him. It's great to watch! :)
Matt -- enjoy the time with your Dad... These are moments you'll treasure forever. Trust me -- It's been almost 30 years since my dad passed. I can still hear his voice. Enjoy. BTW -- that log was gorgeous. Flooring might be boring, but that stuff would be beautiful as flooring, or a table, or....

I always love seeing the videos when you and your dad work together. I lost my dad when I was just 20. I always live vicariously though those who are able to do projects with their dad. Great job slabbing that massive log up.
Thank you for the share. This definitely goes to show a little patience goes a long way. Often times you just want results, or the end product so you're tempted to just rush in and get something done. Your video here is the epitome of wood working and one of the big reasons I am interested in it. It teaches you to slow down, think about what youre trying to do, and carry it out methodically. You and your Dad work well together, brings back fond memories of the "trouble" Dad and I would get into with some of our projects. Enjoy every minute you can with your Dad, and I'm sure you will be doing the same with your son.
Happy Father’s Day to you and your dad! Great vid! We are part of a rare and dying breed in this nation. The “grew up in stable, happy homes” club that had great fathers who love us. Your dad is awesome and it makes me realize just how special and awesome my father is. The greatest antidepressant in the world right now doesn’t come from the pharmaceutical companies, it comes from having a loving mom and dad. There’s a great fulfillment and satisfaction that comes , like working with your hands, from raising a good family like yours is
Excellent video! My husband and son just got several beautiful red oak logs for me. I can't wait to put them on the sawmill. I love each cut and seeing what is hiding inside.

Love that you said it makes you nostalgic for when you were working outdoors with your dad as a kid. I feel the same way. My dad called Saturdays "work days," and at the time, we didn't think it was always fun to be out there doing things with him in the yard. However, I do have fond memories (grew up on about 13 acres) of working with my dad outdoors. You're totally right...working with him now as two adults on a project is even more satisfying.

Love the video. Would love to see another with your folks, especially with them enjoying NOT having to use bottle jacks, etc thanks to the telehandler and skid-steer.
I dig the new cut time graphic and your measurement conversion graphic. Nice job sync'ing the retraction sound of the physical tape with the retraction of the on-screen graphic!
This was a fun video. Your mom's a cutie and fun and your dad's enthusiasm is infectious. Great people. Thanks for sharing a lot of your family with us on this one. Of course the log is tremendous.
I love the way you show us each cut. That is the reason I look forward to all of your sawmill videos. God bless in the New Year. Hoping for larger logs.
Green fungal stain made me go "OMG! Chlorociboria in oak!!" That's quite a rare thing to see in oak, you should keep the green-stained parts aside for marquetry, I've been collecting wood stained by that fungus for like 12 years and only scored deeply-stained oak once. The conditions for that fungus to develop in oak are just that uncommon. Cheers and thanks for the vids Matt, loved seeing your family in there too.
A very cool vid, working with your dad makes for extra special wood. Your mom is a hoot!! Family, honest work, fabulous results and Christmas Tree to boot, thanks for sharing.

Noticable how you are good natured and easy to work. Dad just the same. Enjoy, it appeared fun was had

True, but also sweet attention to detail.
This was a fun video. Your mom's a cutie and fun and your dad's enthusiasm is infectious. Great people. Thanks for sharing a lot of your family with us on this one. Of course the log is tremendous.
thanks!
keeping it real, happy and genuine is the key to my interest pique. nice job.
thanks!
I don't know how watching a tree get cut up can be so enjoyable. Thank you, Mathew Cremona!
Hello from Tennessee! My favorite so far. So fun to watch families together. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.
I love the way you show us each cut. That is the reason I look forward to all of your sawmill videos. God bless in the New Year. Hoping for larger logs.
Thank you Henry!
You need a longer bar on that saw! Love your videos, thank you for them!
My bigger saws need some love. Probably should take care of them soon. thanks!
Whom ever dislikes you working with your father is just jealous.
