    If I want to lay a course with a number of waypoints, is that only in the manual mode? I don't see a place to add more than a start and finish. Related, does the app show you information about legs of a journey, what's coming next etc. This is, after all, now a Garmin product and they can do all that when you're in your car, hopefully the boating app has similar capabilities

    When following a route. Does the app give you a course to steer?

    I want to plot a route specifying a departure date and time. E.G. departing Hamble Point Marina on the 18th July 2022 at 11.00. How do I do that please?

    Extremely disappointed by the Boating app - but maybe I just don't understand how to use it. You enter a long route in Automatic mode, and it spends time calculating a straight line, including over land! For example, New Bern, NC, to Key West goes straight across FLA - and no, not the Okeechobee. Then it only shows you the marinas and attractions at your destination, ignoring the rest of the route. Why does it even bother? Is that really what automatic means? Wouldn't it be great if it asked you if you wanted a coastal route or a bluewater route? Wouldn't it be great if you could enter the number of waypoints you'd like, and have it suggest places for the stops. It's just immediately obvious to me that so much value is missing from this app.

      I realized after much hair-pulling that my tablet is overpowered by the challenge. Should be some kind of message to let you know that the algorithm has failed or is going to take all night.

      I have the same problem. Why is it routing me on land instead of on the water?

      @@reneemahlman6099 I actually figured out that my tablet was so underpowered that it couldn't process long routes. Try putting in a shorter route.

    Navionics will not work on ipad as you need a tablet with a sim card slot.This is what enables the GPS.

    • @reneemahlman6099
      @reneemahlman6099 2 роки тому +1

      Well of course you need to have a sim card and phone service for this app to work on an I pad. I have an Ipad with both an the app works great!

    Aren’t all these tutorials useless as the Navionics app is soon to be discontinued??

    • @sowdend
      @sowdend 4 роки тому

      I thought that, but they've changed the way it works. You need the Navionics "Boating Marine and Lakes" app. They all work in that one and you buy the charts you want as subscription "in-app" purchases. The previous method, where they had an app per region, is no longer supported for upgrades, and they are discontinuing the apps.

    Navionics uses vector layers, with too much information, messing and scrambling the nautical chart. Raster electronic charts are not as sofisticated but much clearer for the seaman. Don't use Navionics!
