Hey even I have a 1997 Esteem and it's awesome.
Well I have 1996 model lx 1.3. Just going to get it scrapped very soon.

*My family had Maruti Esteem AX from November 1996 - August 2018 ! The last 2 years were the only time when the car started showing some minor issues but otherwise it was one of the best sedans that money could buy. Superb driving quality and engine power. I've always felt that Esteem was the last good car that Maruti released from its stable.*

Bhai Mai to 2007 se esteem ke Siva dusri gadi Chalai nahi.
Sab log bolte hai scrap karwa do par dil nahi manta. Mai to kabhi sell nahi karunga. Time menten karti hai. Bahot mast car hai. Maine 7lack phul vasul Kar liye hai.
Still own 2005 esteem, well maintained. You can still race it with the best..!!

When ur buyin an old car u are already takin into considerstion that safety will be an issue, but the esteem has incredible grip & brakes are really good as much as i have heard. So ultimately people who have put quite some time behind will only go for it, so even tho safety is a concern the ones buyin it wouldnt mind.
