It works like this, say I want to do "X" because I love it and find interesting, think of how you could get to that goal.
    1. Plan your work, and work your plan. Be ready for failure, plan for failure.
    2. Have plan B's, always at the ready.
    3. Oh yea it may take hard work and effort.
    4. If you need to, find other like minded people to help.
    5. Don't quit until you've tried and failed at least 10 times. Sometimes 20, Sometimes 50, Sometimes more.

Maybe five years ago. Then I look at the dates and it's two years ago. A year ago. The amount that EV's have evolved and improved in the last two years is mind boggling. It rivals the advances in smart phone technology.

The anti-ev people always like to say shit like "gasoline has 100x more energy density than the best batteries!" and yet with 1/100th the energy Tesla power is fuckin smoking everything at the drag strip. An electric car absolutely destroyed the pikes-peak hillclimb record, and pretty soon they'll be smashing records at famous racetracks. All this, with "1/100th the energy density." Imagine how obscenely fast these cars will be when batteries have 1/4 or 1/2 the energy density of gasoline, let alone energy parity. Absolutely mind-boggling. The sky is the limit with electric cars, people decades ago thought we would have flying cars, I guess they'll just have to settle for inhumanly fast, silent cars that cost nearly nothing to run and almost never need mechanical service.

    Very cool build. Butttttttt,
I have to laugh when he calls this a "hot rod" like back in the 50's...
The one thing you dont talk about is price to build ... you reference that this is compared to "hot rods" from back in the day your dead wrong .... this is not a teenager project or some thing you can do on the cheap side (if it was everyone would be doing this )
This for people how have alot of money and or alot of Disposable income for now ...
To build a car with this components and software you are running is Astronomical even when buying used parts ... hot rods back were cheap and easy to build this is not... so I dont consider this a "hot rod" .. more like a rich mans toy ...

Whenever I see this sentiment expressed, and you are by no means alone in your scepticism, it reminds me of this Edison quote: “After the electric light goes into general use, none but the extravagant will burn tallow candles.” What is the expensive play things for the rich, like gasoline cars in the 1920, will in a generation be the cheep everyday norm. Like Edison's lightbulb, electric cars will be the cheep car you give your teenagers to give them their first taste of freedom and autonomy. You do not give them a horse or a gas car because they are expensive, and you know how irresponsible teens are. :)
