Except Roger shares his people with a bunch of dogs all the time coming and going, so Roger’s not one of those types of indoor only emotionally fragile cats that you’re talking about. Maybe you should watch some of the videos about Roger and you can see that.
@@chelseacraft4669 that's not the same. You can have cats that have no problem with the company of dogs, but hate other cats. They know the difference. It is especially problematic with older cats that have had a long time being the only cat, and aren't used to socializing with other cats.
My cat is 17 years old, and I just got a kitten. He is a new cat. He loves her so much. I have never seen him take to a cat like this since he was a kitten. All this to say, I respectfully disagree, and it really depends on the cats and their personalities.
So glad Freddie is back. The trailer Rodrego built long ago was a great idea that saves the back Im sure.
Don't forget a kitten may very well scratch up your nice couch, & won't be snuggly like Roger who is more mature. 😢

Cats are just fine on their own as they are very independent, unlike many humans and not knowing how Roger will react to a new kitty, you will have to take this into account. Roger is very happy on his own! Good to see Freddie back🌻

I have 5 cats. 1 boy. They were bit suspicious for first 10\15 days but they started playing normally. The boy was already 12 and the girls started coming one after another, they are rescues.
They sleep together, lick each other. I was always a bit nervous the first days but all went well in the end.
And I live in an apartment. I imagine it’s much more easier in a farm.
My family always had cats in their little farm. Never just one.

I have 4 cats they fight all the time. Cats prefer to be alone. They want to be number 1 in your affection! They are not crazy about having other cats to compete with.

Each cat has their own personality. Some HATE other cats. Some are indifferent. And some seem to like to play, lick, and cuddle. If you are going to introduce another, it's easier to introduce a kitten than a cat.

If you can get a female kitten for a week or two to see how Roger will react, but personally, I think Roger will just either ignore her or be outside longer.
I have had cats for 45 yrs and I think Roger should have your home alone and seems very content that way. If you bring another cat/kitten in the mix you could force Roger to pee in places to mark his territory!!

I've had cats all my life and really it's hit or miss. Sometimes they become best buds and sometimes not. Roger has a ton of friends on the farm, my guess is that he's fine. Moo moo on the other hand...❤

I had a long time cat leave, she actually moved out, when I brought home a kitten. She would be seen around the neighborhood but no one could never trap her. Many months later, she came back only to find we had gotten yet another kitten. She left again, permanently. I've had other cats be totally fine with an addition. You just never know.

Idea for you….
Why not turn the bottom of the stairs so that they come down into the centre of the house, instead of right in front of your lounge area?
Yes it would mean your halfway landing becomes bigger, but turning the bottom steps technically gives you more space in the lounge area….
You could then place a tv in the old stairs space or even better swap the sofa over to the stairs side of the room, your then looking outside and you have the wall for a tv and cupboard underneath……

I am glad we got a little peak at Freddie's mom and hear that she is supportive. For the Q&A if you are willing to share, it would be interesting to hear how Freddie's family reacted to her moving so far away. Cats are strange beasts, some love being around other cats and others don't. If there is a local shelter you might see if you can foster before adopting to see if Rodger enjoys the company.
Please tell Freddie’s mama, she has raised a beautiful, sweet, smart, supportive, genuine young lady. I’m so glad you’re with Rodrigo, Freddie, and can’t wait for you guys to get married and hopefully get closer and closer to our wonderful Father God, who I think, brought you two together.

QUESTION for Q&A: When you two are not filming and are just talking to each other, what language are you using? English, Spanish, German. Are you two trying to learn each other’s languages? Hope this hasn’t been asked in a previous Q&A.
They've mentioned it briefly in passing that they speak in English (both their second language) because it's the language that they have in common and that the usual struggles come up being bilingual like having a hard time translating and expressing their thoughts in English, or that the English language doesn't have a word or phase equivalent to what they are trying to say.
I've also seen them in videos teaching each other some words in their native languages, so it definitely seems like they are taking interest in learning/sharing their language and cultures with each other. But obviously with Freddie living in Panama full time, it's much more likely that she will pick up on his language first, just from being emerged into the culture and local community.
Question for Freddie: Have you had the conversation with Kaylee and Jordan about teaching Sadie German?

My beloved cat who came across the sea with me from afar was angry with me for 2 yrs when I got another cat . The other cat passed away , and now my boy loves me again. Cats can get raeally jealous ! Its better if they are both young......

Glad Freddie is back safe and sound.....the last video felt empty without her. Two cats are great for endless entertainment.......BUT.... as they will run like crazy around the house things could come crashing down and many sleepless nights could ensue, because cats will play at night and sleep during the day, unless you decide to crate them at night. Roger already plays with the dogs, so he already has animal companions to play with during the day. Have fun deciding.
BTW.....You could enclose the laundry room first with a wall & door and use that during the rainy seasons to cut and prep wood for inside projects, since it has a window for ventilation. This way all the dust just stays in one area. Then after the all the walls are done in the house you can complete the room for the its intended purpose. Just a thought.

The only animal that NEEDS A companion on your property is Moo-Moo. Cattle are herd animals and need the support of a companion to feel safe. She will stop trying to break out every day to find a friend or just something to do if she was not alone. I have had cats, dogs, rabbits, Gerbils, Rats, snakes, Hedgehog, birds, parrots, fish, horses, cows and more. Cats who never go outside will usually accept a new kitten with time and not much bad behavior especially if they are both neutered and of different sex. Cats that go outside during the day usually do not spend their time together. I had two brothers from the same litter who did everything together but they mostly ignored the other cat until they came in to eat. Adding a new kitten means that you are prepared and ready to take care of the animal for the next 20 years. During that time they will require food, medical care, yearly shots and Veterinarian care etc for the rest of its life. Older cats are prone to kidney problems and often require special diets for these medical needs. They can not be vegetarian and must have meat and higher protein than the dogs. They should never eat the same foods as you or the dogs do. When it can no longer catch the mice and other things to supplement its diet, you must be able to provide it for them, according to what the Veterinarian says it needs. Adopting a kitten that will run around playing all night might sound fun and easy, but it doesn't last long. Every vacation you have, they will need someone else to care for them. If you're sick, you still have to care for them. When they are sick, it's your responsibility to get them medical care. Be very sure you can afford another pet and are prepared to make a 20 year commitment to another animal.

@@kdpmpdx If you're asking for other people's feelings then perhaps you haven't put enough questions to yourself about the responsibilities that come with it. I have taken over the care and costs of many animals because they were adopted by young people who didn't quite understand that things can go bad suddenly and they were not prepared. It's never the pets fault but they are the ones who suffer because their owners can't afford the medication or environment that the pet needs. I'm not saying that they are not, only that they need to be sure they are first.
Hey mate. On the back side of your house next to your water tank you should dig out a section and make a workshop where you can do the wood work out of the rain. Dig it out and strengthen your pillars, then wall the sides, then add lights. No matter how the weather is, you can always prep your work and have it ready for the next day. Be safe mates.
In regards to a Kitten, I don't think Roger would be to happy about a newbie. It might be a hard sell.
Just added a second cat to keep the first cat company. The oldest is 3 years old the new one is 11 months. Best decision made. They both play together and seem to enjoy eachothers company. The Humane Society in my state recommends two cats not one for adoption.
Agreed. I always tell everybody to have two cats don't have just one. But sometimes when you have a kitty that's been alone and not used to having other cats around bringing another cat's not always a good thing unless you can keep the new cat in a room that is not the regular cat's favorite room. If you knew you had an alpha Kitty then you wouldn't want to bring a new one in. Every home needs two kitties.
Depends on the cat. Some are very buddy types and others not so much. I have one female that loves all the boys. They preen her often. But I have another that could care less. I am a cat person and have a family outside, so it would dissuade others as there is a limit. As a family they all eat together but have their squabbles. I'd suggest a kitten that is not the same sex. So, depends on the kitty.
If you want a kitten the go for it. You shouldn't let others tell you what to do. Cats sort themselves out and Kittens are resilient to new environments. Older cats learn to deal with Kittens and actually fall in love with them eventually. If you accept them into your family the old cat realizes it's a fight they can't win and just accept the joy. Let the Cat Distribution System do it's thing. On another note you are dealing with a German and I am Prussian. We started WWI and WWII. We always want to get what is good for us and not anyone else.

Moo Moo may want a friend, Roger, not so much. Roger seems really territorial and protective of his space and his humans.
I've had cats all my life - never just one - up to 7 at once - some of them have their moments but for the most part they all play together or sleep near each other. When I have brought in a new cat - it can take a week or two for them to get to know each other - but it has always worked out for me! I may be in the minority but I say YES!
Cats are very territorial, unless they grew up together from young it is really difficult to introduce a new cat to a place with an older cat. Roger will probably respond with peeing all over the house to mark his territory at best and violence at worst.

Roger does not need a partner. He appreciates his alone time, and could be jealous of a kitten getting attention. He would rather have 100% of your attention.

As an older cat Roger will be a loner. Cats very rarely spend time with other cats unless they are raised together. We introduced a younger cat once and it made the older cat move out!

Plus as an animal lover I’d support another kitty. It will help Roger but…he will become more independent of you two. If that’s okay with you then go and adopt!
Don't listen to the negative Nancys! I have been working with cats all my life. You will never truly know how two cats will get along. But there are definitely things you can do to best facilitate their introduction to hopefully get the best outcome.
1) When bringing a new cat in, make sure they have their own space that they can hide in. Allow the new cat to adjust to that space. They will naturally become curious once they feel safe.
2) Make sure there is a barrier in between the cats so they can't get to each other. Then, feed the cats at the barrier to enforce a positive association of the other cats' smell.
3) Slowly let the cats meet. Make sure to have guided interactions between the two. Once you can see them playing with each other or cuddling/grooming each other, you know they have accepted each other.
4) Often, when introducing animals, it can be easier to introduce the opposite sex. Since Roger is male, consider a female kitten. Kittens are also easier to introduce to adult cats. Often, with the same sex, the cats can become territorial and possessive. HOWEVER, again, you will never know until you introduce the cats.
Good luck with a new cat in your life, and I hope my tips will help you.

Q & A: I do have a question. How do you power your lights; water pump; kitchen appliances; batteries for power tools? I never see solar panels of any kind and yet Lolas Farm even has a washer dryer. How are all the electric devises powered?
You guys need to get a "cat camera" to put on Roger! Then you can see what he does all day long and who he intermingles with! There are several UA-cam channels that are about cats with the cameras attached to them! It's very adventurous to watch and listen to! "Adventures of Roger the Cat!"
In my experience with cats, females resist a new cat/kitten real bad.. an older male cat with a new male kitten has worked out super well.. my two cents ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You guys should dig out a section under the house as a work area. It will allow for a dry outdoor space to work all rainy season.
Kittens can be trained easier then older cats so thats up to you if you want to get one 😄

I will say, kittens are soooo hard to resist, but cats tend to destroy things in the house. But, Roger and a new cat get to go outside often so maybe a new kitten wouldn’t destroy inside. my thought is, how badly do you want it? If the reason is so Roger can have a buddy, then i think NO. he doesn't need any buddies. His life seems very full right now. If its for you guys, then, how bad do you want it?
Also, you never know, one may stray into your property at some point, very organically, and maybe you should wait for that.
If it was me, though, I'd probably just go get one and deal with any problems that come up.

That hanging plant is called an asparagus fern. They're beautiful and grow really long if you give them enough love.
Garden tip: plant the cut top part of the pineapple and grow your own pineapples 🍍 I also do this with store bought lettuces and green onions and strawberries

I think it’s honestly mostly whatever you prefer. We have a 17 year old female cat, and we’ve had her with other cats, who are now gone, and she was happy when we had them, but she seems just as happy, and cuddlier with us, without other cats.
Speaking as a mom of 3 adult “children”, I’m sure Freddie’s mom is thrilled to see her daughter so happy, with such a wonderful love 🧡
I received three, very young cats (one was a kitten) that were abandoned several years ago. One male, two females. For many years they co existed very well. However, as they aged, the male was more dominate, and the girls mre reclusive. Towards the end of their life, the oldest female became quite hostile towards the male, to the point I had to put her outside. The youngest female hid from him all the time. The female and the male have passed within the past year. My little Bella has blossomed into a most outgoing and affectionate cat. Her true personality has been hiding all this time. So, beware bringing another cat into the fold. Not only could Roger start peeing on your stuff, but they could both do it, or have terrible fights. Toss of the dice!

Putting cats together is always an unknown. Some do well together, some do not, some just tolerate each other. It is unpredictable. I love extra cat video footage!
The past few days I watched your videos from when you were just getting the windows for your A frame. How far you have come on your house, you and Freddie are making it sooooo beautiful! Glad Freddie's mom allowed you to film her for this video so we could meet her. Your 'gazebo/pergola' is also lovely and a wonderful outside addition. The house is looking GREAT!! I have a couple of questions for you, 1) is there enough head room under the house so you could work under there and be sheltered? 2) when are you going to finish the outside of the house, like soffit's and sealing up all the openings to the outside?
The right term for that space, is called a dead space. According to interior designers. I think you should get a cat for Freddie. Great idea.❤

You should look into getting Flemish Giant Rabbits. Big as a medium size dog and very docile and can be trained. Super loving too. Love you both❤

It's so sweet to see Roger part of nearly everything you guys work on. Maybe the idea of adding another kitty to the mix might be a good one so he's not entirely reliant of you guys for his mental stimulation.
If you guys got a kitten you could delay the decision to spay or nuture Roger...or you could leave nature alone and when the kitten grows up and has her babies you could give one to Sadie and the rest of your Panamanian friends..eh? We live in central coastal Florida in the US. Not far from us is a place called Plant City. Each year around February, we get strawberries the size of - probably a little larger that Sadie’s palm of her hand. They are huge!! We have the Strawberry Festival with tons of, usually, country groups, singers, and everything you can possibly make to eat with strawberries, and other ‘fair foods”. Even the schools take a day off so kids can go. These are 3 to 4 bite strawberries, and very sweet!!!
I’m sure they seem sweet, but scientifically strawberries are not that sweet. Sometimes too much sugar is offputting so that makes strawberries perfect.
Do not get a kitten for Roger. You're not really doing it for Roger. You're doing it for yourself. Kittens are adorable. I love them! But, cats are not like dogs and need a buddy to keep them company. Keep Roger happy, don't disrupt his peace and happiness with a kitten.

In my experience - cat owner of 14 years and dog of 6…my cat is not a social cat toward other cats…in fact I think generally they are solitary … however it can also depend on how you bring them up and their unique personalities. Mine struggled with the pup…but now the cat loves the dog…but it took patience and love ❤
Yeah, that’s why I have 20 rescue cats who made themselves into two families and there are very few fights and they constantly pile on top of each other sleeping together, cuddling each other, grooming each other, etc. Just because you’ve had an experience with a solitary cat that was raised around dogs and stayed indoors the whole time… Doesn’t mean Rogers like that. Cats are naturally communal. They are not loners. Just because people force them into situations they don’t normally get into in the wild doesn’t mean that’s how nature made them.
