Hi Malcom. When you are using the Timberline XL how consistent does it maintain temps? Does it fluctuate much? For example if I am cooking ribs and set it at 250 degrees how close does it hold that temp? Also have you tested the inside of the Timberline XL using meat probes to see how consistent the temp is inside the grill?
When you said "you aren't gonna park this grill next to a trailer"......I laughed so hard I almost peed! Wish there was a way for me to post a photo of my XL & 1300 on the deck of my TRAILER cause I would! Now the XL is to replace the 1300 which will go up for sale next week but.....that XL absolutely lives (chained to a permanently bolted gazebo) next to a Trailer in New Jersey. It's not about ELITEST its about what is important to someone and where & how they chose to spend their $. Wish I could post a pic.
The parts that excite me the most about this design is not having to clean burn pot before cooks and the potential of way less ash making it to your food.
I ordered mine last week at ACE. I think it is overpriced but I love the cooking space it provides and the convenience of having everything I need in one unit. Also, I love the new clean out system and it everything works as advertised, I don't mind paying a little extra or a lot extra for these features. What else in this price range makes smoking meats as easy? I don't have the skill or patient for an offset so it's a pellet smoker for me. What is comparable to this unit in the pellet smoker world? I am curious to learn your thoughts.
I ordered mine from the BBQ Guys on 4/6, it's being delivered today. About a 3 week turn around. not bad. I'm looking forward to the first cook. I have a barrel smoker (Pitbarrel) and it smkes well with little effort ok knowledge (I'm no pro).
Coming off the 780 pro to this is night and day, I thought it was expensive until it was in my backyard and I cooked on it and realized it's the best thing I've bought for myself in a very long time
Here’s my problem. $3,800 is a bit pricey but it does seem to be a quality grill. But for that price I would expect it to come with all the accessories. Like the folding table for the front or the utensil hooks. Even the cover for this is 4 times the price of most covers. It’s an extra $800 for the stuff most cheap grills come with. This is like Apple selling there $5000 computer monitor and charging an extra $1000 for stand.
It's a nice looking grill but like you said it's not for everyone, in fact 4000.00 for a pellet grill is crazy, my 1000.00 Camp Chef Smoke Pro SG 24 does everything this does with the exception of the induction cooker and I can buy one of them for under 100.00. Trager get your price down around 2000.00 and I might buy one.
You can buy Traeger grills in a number of locations, from their website to Home Depot. If you would like to purchase one in person, your best bet would be contacting them to ask about local locations.
I have a older traeger Texas model BQ075 it just fine ,you dont need all that fancy crap, the more simple the better.i think the Yoder is the best pellet grill on the market 1.4 inch grill.American made .come on 🇺🇸
Just used mine for the 1st time yesterday & haven't gotten rid of my 1300 yet. I LOVE THAT about it because I can lift and move them without killing myself which was my #1 reason for the upgrade. Bottom rack split in 3 and the upper racks actually BOTH hold cookie sheets and it'd all usable space!
I have a new Timberline XL less than two months and I having all types of trouble with the fire sensor, then the mother board and the sad thing about the situation NOBODY at Traeger seem to care. I have to wait on a area tech guy to come out base on his schedule it taken several days before anyone to come out to fix the problem. I paid too much money for this grill to be having major issues so soon. are anoybody else out there having issues with this grill for what I heard not too many people know much about this grill yet so SAD Traeger
Have been having issues as well and agree with what you say about Traeger not seeming to care. Ours broke during the 4th cook. We tried to get a hold of customer service, but they never called back the day of the problem. Finally got through to them the next day. Took them 3 weeks to get us a replacement part. You'd think with the price of the grill, it being new, and being flagship model, they would show some sense of urgency toward problems. They didn't. I expected some growing pains with it being a new design, but I wasn't expecting how little they seem to care about dealing with problems.
Yoder is still better, American made and it is a beast. To many fancy things that could go wrong on the new Traeger. I had a Traeger for years and the Yoder 640 is just the bomb. Induction cookers many on Amazon got a great one for $130 that's sits on the Yoder side shelf. For me the Yoder is just better, I don't want a touch screen that I might have to replace. I just want something that is a heavy duty pit that gets it done.
Yoder falls short on their finish. All too often you here folks complain about the finish webbing and peeling. They really need to get this issue resolved.
He said your not going to put it outside the trailer lol I live in a trailer and well I just cooked my turkey on the xl yesterday 😂white trash ballin l.
Traeger is not a premium cooker in my opinion and would be the last brand I would ever buy. Their slogan should be buy one it will be the last Traeger you ever buy.

Great review. Thank you!
Malcolm, I love your perspective lol!

A mate had one of the timberline XL's he had a big issue with it. Hot pellets would drop into the ash/grease pan causing a grease fire

Do you think it's really worth the difference between the 1300? $1500 is a big difference

Just looked at one today. The top and middle shelves are thinner than they were in the previous Timberline. A little disappointed to see that
