    Strange to see pete and Morgan playing against one another arguably both of them played in two of the greatest games in baseball ⚾️ history game 6 of the 75 world series and game 5 of this series 👏 this was baseball the way baseball should be

    Pete Rose was such a great competitor he was a pleasure to watch during his time. Although im a Yankee fan MLB really misses him no dought. And also his match up against Nolan Ryan is so classic....

    I love this look the Phillies had. The 70's and 80's are easily the best times in ⚾️⚾️Baseball⚾️⚾️ and 🏈🏉Football🏉🏈, especially their helmets and uniforms.

    Pirates fan here. Hated the Phillies in the '70's but have grown fond of what a great team they were. This was one of the greatest series in baseball history. But what drove me nuts was when they kept saying "this is the largest crowd in Pennsylvania history. Never understood that. The Vet had a capacity of 65,000 while Three Rivers was at most 55,000.

      Just stating a fact, because they all played at different stadiums not just them 2, and the A's played here too!

    Great game! Terry Puhl rbi single to make it 1-0, amazing luzinski was playing so deep with 2 outs. Puhl rarely would hit it deep other way. Key run but phils win in the end. I remember 82 World Series radio sparky Anderson saying all outfielders play too deep and it loses games. Case in point.

      I remembering this being a close series both teams being strong. Interesting both teams have two future HOF’s on their roster Schmidt and Carlton, Morgan and Ryan. Also the all-time base hit king on the Phillies.

    what I take away from this game: Bake McBrides wife is hot and lovely. And Howard Cosell is the most iconic and greatest (arguably) sports broadcaster of all-time

    Pete Rose runs faster after a walk than most players today that are running to 1st for a hit

    • @jaycompany4886
      @jaycompany4886 3 роки тому +2

      Yes, i don't know about faster, but rose "charlie hustle" every walk, wasn't the fastest but, going from 1st to 3rd and diving to the base was beautiful thing to watch

    I think Dallas Green knew he made a mistake leaving Ron Reed (RHP) in the game to pitch to Jose Cruz (LHB) in the extra innings. Even the play by play guys were saying when Cruz came up to bat, well, now Dallas Green will probably be making a pitching chance due to the left hand hitting Cruz. When Dallas Green left Reed in the game, they were surprised. However, bringing in Kevin Saucier (LHP) to pitch to Cruz doesn’t guarantee an out. Sometimes, the manager has to play a hunch. Green played it by his gut and it happened to be a wrong move. Dallas Green, however, was responsible for getting the Phillies into post season play in 1980 and he’s a tough, no nonsense old-school manager. My take on it, Had Reed struck out Cruz, in tomorrow’s Philadelphia Daily News, the sports writers would be saying what a genius Green is.

    The Astros would lose Cesar Cedeno in Game 3 due to injury for the rest of the series and Joe Morgan played on one leg for the whole series!

    Watching from the 10th inning, that blown miss assessed ball that McBride could have scored on, cost them the game, but only made this series one of the best ever.

    This Astros batting order looks better oro mucho better than their game one with the addition of Puhl and Morgan!!! A Morgan who was nota in his prime but still fill in the gap as a provisional third bat in the post seasson fue to his talento and expirience!!!

    This is one thing they say about most pitchers, that doesn't apply to Ryan.....now that he's older, he doesn't throw hard, so he's learn how to pitch

    In my view McBride should have been third bat for Mike Schmidt was rather the Fourth bat by excellence and Luzinsky a slugger and power threath a fith bat while trillo Stands better for a second bat!!

    Lonnie Smith is at the plate in the ninth inning, and Cosell asks "Can The Bull do it again?", then realizes Luzinski is out of the game. Man was he horrible at calling baseball.

    • @nightowl5475
      @nightowl5475 5 років тому +2

      JDSuave Cosell drank during most of the games and he wasn’t an easy guy to work with. The other guys barely tolerated him. He would criticize the sports writers all the time. Then, when he got bad press by them, he would cry foul. Johnny Carson never liked him and said it once during one of his monologues. You’ll never see a rerun of the Tonight Show with Carson hosting and Cosell as a guest.

      @williamhicks7736 Рік тому

      Great question… going into the 1980 season, the Astros were World Series contenders because they signed Nolan Ryan and Joe Morgan, adding them to an already talented team which almost (and probably should have ) won the NL West in 1979.
      The main reason they didn’t win it all in 1980 was JR Richard having a stroke…. And a slew of other injuries to key player like Ashby, Cedeno ….
