      Hi Brad - thanks for subscribing! You'll be able to relate to our next video...if we can get around to editing it! Still decompressing after the last six weeks, and the week-long journey back to Mexico. It was a true pleasure meeting people just like you - this is indeed the best part of the experience. Sorry we didn't get to properly say goodbye at SEA, but we're happy to still be in contact with you. Ooooooodles of Love, Fi and Jerry (Your Drifters) ❤️❤️

    Great video! Thanks for letting us into your lives a bit! My hubby and I are looking forward to moving to Mazatlan in the next few years! That is where we will be early retiring! Can't wait! Take care! Looking forward to more videos!

    Thank you both for sharing your journey with strangers on youtube like us! We had a great time watching this video and were chuckling when you mentioned kerrygold - our freezer is always stocked with at least 5 of them at any time (and we are not Irish!). Being in Chicago for the past 17 yrs we can't wait to live in MX and experience sun, warmth, no shoveling of snow, and not being stranded indoors for at least 4 mo of the year!

    • @ACoupleofDrifters
      @ACoupleofDrifters  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks to you both for watching! Yes, Kerrygold will get you through almost anything - even four months of winter! For me (Fiona) it's a serious addiction. It makes my little butter-clogged heart happy when I find other Kerrygold addicts. We understand those long, cold winters (Maine). Ah well, one day closer to summer AND living in Mexico yourselves - we hope you make it there very soon.

      @@ACoupleofDrifters Haha - Fiona, yes we are kerrygold addicts too :). We'll visit Puerto Vallarta in a month - for a month - and hopefully move there next year. We don't know either if it will be forever, but we would want to live in a place for a few years before moving to another city (of course travel a bit during this time but stay longer term in a place before moving).

    • @ACoupleofDrifters
      @ACoupleofDrifters  3 роки тому +1

      Enjoy your trip to Puerto Vallarta. Staying for a month should give you a fairly good feel for it. Staying long term anywhere is a great way to go... if possible. We think of our year on the road and how much we packed in, BUT it meant picking up sticks and moving every few days. It gave us a quick taster of places we now want to return to and explore a little more. It's o.k. not knowing if a place will be forever, it's all an adventure packed with many surprises along the way.

    It was so nice of you two to share with us, the house sitting is interesting but we have two kitty cats which would make it impossible since I could never leave them with anyone else, as much as I love them, when they pass, I do not think I will have any more since they are a huge responsibility. I enjoy your videos because I want to move to Mexico and live there and I appreaciate the honesty about life and travel there.

      We want to thank you so much for your continued interest in our videos - this means quite a lot to us! We understand how you feel about life after pets pass away: We knew it was time to travel for a while after our dog Scraps passed - having pets is indeed a big responsibility. We had our baby Scraps for 14 years. Maybe in the future we'll get another dog, for now house sitting is our furry fix. Even though we don't own a home, the thought of a stranger staying in our imaginary home doesn't appeal to us, but yet here we are as house sitters! 🤣

    Wow. I watched this in some amazement. I worked at airports, for many years as an Air Traffic Controller, then I was a Supervisor for an Aviation refueling company, the Airport Security not to mention many other jobs. Itchy feet, we share that. I've lived in six of Canada's ten provinces. I've ridden from Eastern Canada, New Brunswick, (about as close to Portland Maine and Boston as you can get and still be in Canada)solo on my motorcycle, to Argentina, I miss many of the same things you do, butter, cheese, Hot Chicken Sandwiches and Donairs come to mind. I dont miss rain. I love and have lived in Mazatlan for 7 years and we live just a 5 minute walk apart and we both are youtubers? What are the odds? Hahaha awesome!

      Hi Dwight,
      We sound like kindred spirits, from itchy feet to working in the aviation industry - and we're neighbors! Well, we've moved but we're still in Centro. We return in late June - just in time for the heat and humidity! Hopefully we'll cross paths in the barrio and have a few Pacificos. Solo on a motorcycle from Canada to Argentina sounds epic! How much time did that take? We had to google a donair - they look and sound delicious, sort of like a cross between a doner kebab and a gyro? We hope that doesn't offend a donair fan such as yourself!😀

      @@ACoupleofDrifters We were last back about 8 years ago for a wedding. We planned on being there last February for Ricky’s mommy’s 80th birthday but ...you know global pandemic 😷 Hope to get back soon. How about you ?

      Aww that's lousy that you couldn't make it back for Ricky's Mum's 80th. Sounds like hopefully a trip home will be in the near future for you both when things calm down...hopefully soon. I haven't been home since August 2017, just before we hit the road. With travel the way it is at the moment, I'm not too sure when I'll get back either. Hi Kerry!
      What a lovely surprise to hear from you and Sean! We'll never forget meeting you two on that autumn day! We haven't been active on our blog, so we're very happy you found our UA-cam channel. Thank you so much for making sure we're all still in contact! Kerry, you comment has really made our day!
      We're heading to Alaska in a few weeks to work the sockeye salmon season - this will be our second year doing this. The work is brutal (16-hour days, seven days a week for six weeks) but it's worth it, especially working with such lovely folks.
      We wish you and Sean the best and we hope to see you on the road again soon.

  • @Vancouver_Dan
    @Vancouver_Dan 3 роки тому

    That wasn't brutal - it was very interesting to hear about how you came to be where you are today (not physically in New Mexico, but in life). You are great raconteurs! When you talked about hitching to Panama - I thought of the Budgeteers' very entertaining UA-cam series where they hitched and couch surfed through Mexico and Central America. You might enjoy that series and their videos about their adventures in Asia. You also made me think about what I miss when I am in Mexico ... water: fresh clean water from the tap rather than from a plastic bottle. On a related note - I would love to stay in Mexico long enough to miss our north pacific rain. Anyway, I look forward to hearing the story of your journey back to the USA. All the best!

      @ACoupleofDrifters  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Dan! Your comment really made our day - thank you so much! We've watched all of the Budgeteers in Mexico and Central America - we enjoyed their videos very much. We're overdue for watching their Asian trip so we'll check that out soon. Indeed, it's the small things one often misses and takes for granted while away from home, like a dizzying assortment of cheeses, proper Irish pubs, clean water from the tap and even the occasional rainy day! Take care Dan!

    Regarding the question of whether or not you would want to live out your lives in Mazatlan....What if you were at the age where you just want to settle down and NOT do more traveling? Would Mazatlan be a good place?

    • @ACoupleofDrifters
      @ACoupleofDrifters  3 роки тому +2

      For us, we'd choose a location with a much more agreeable year-round climate than Mazatlan. We'd want to be somewhere where the heat and humidity would not be an issue for us. Winters are actually quite pleasant, but the rest of the year is VERY hot and humid. It's just about fine for now, but not something we'd want to put up with for the rest of our days if and when we settle.

    I’m a TH sitter too. Haha..the weirdest one sprung on me was having to catch a shy bunny twice a day to wash her bottom with a medicated wash and dry it., then give her liquid medication from a syringe, trying to get it all in.

    • @ACoupleofDrifters
      @ACoupleofDrifters  3 роки тому

      It's always good to hear from a fellow TH member! We LOVE the shy bunny story!🤣😂Was the bunny cool with getting her bum wiped? Was she a good patient? At least she wasn't a hyper bunny!😁 Sometimes you NEVER know what you'll get with a house sit...

    • @missmayflower
      @missmayflower 3 роки тому

      @@ACoupleofDrifters Oh no. Definitely not cool with it. Fortunately, the other bunny was big and mellow and, if I could have them both in the shed where their beds were, he seemed to have a calming effect on her and I could lure her closer by giving him treats and piquing her curiosity.
      You hardly ever get to meet other sitters. I only know one because I mentored her when she was the sitter after me on a long assignment. I consider her a very good friend cause she understands me more than the people at home. We’ve been able to meet up a couple of times in France and in Brussels. Great fun.

    Just briefly.. 30 countries, 5 continents.. some with the military, some on my own.
    AND.. you mentioned Irish Pubs.. and I mean this sincerely, SEVERAL authentic Irish and British Pubs in Thailand. As a big UK retirement spot, some pubs are 100% authentic, like stepping through time and space.. except the bar tenders and waiters are Thai.

    • @ACoupleofDrifters
      @ACoupleofDrifters  3 роки тому

      Wow, you have done some serious travelling, long may your travels continue. Myself (Fiona), I'm a Guinness purist. I've tried Guinness in many countries, but it never measures up to a pint back home. Not too sure if it doesn't travel well, or if it's brewed for Guinness elsewhere, but I've also seen some barmen outside of Ireland in "Irish pubs" absolutely defile a pint in the way they pour it! You've got me craving a pint back home. 😉
