My university doesn't have any contrapuntalists - the theory lecturer just does harmony and form. Any tips for getting a good teacher?

It's a bit tough since most people don't really study counterpoint thoroughly anymore... I give lessons though - just message me on instagram if you're interested.

2:51 from my understanding, parallel fifths do not have any negative effects, when the nature of the notes making up the interval, are qualitatively different.
F.x passing note against neighbour note, passing/harmonic, passing/anticipation etc. But as soon as you get passing/passing, it's a mistake. Thus your example may be wrong.

Brahms and Bach would disagree with you. We actually have Brahm's writings on "acceptable" parallel 5ths and he agrees with my example. The 5ths are not heard

@@BachtotheBasics well brahms is also an absolutely garbage composer so take that how you will. Not sure how bach disagrees.

This is a good video but I need to start with first species.

4:34 what utter nonsense, there are no parallels to be seen. And it's completely missing the point of the rule against parallel fifths. The choice of the number of quarter notes is completely arbitrary, as just a single quarter note, or even a quaver, or sixteenth note, or even just a decorative grace note would eliminate the effect of parallel octaves.

not well explained, too fast, too shallow

It is up to the viewer to pause and learn, instead of merely watching. Well explained, fast enough to be concise and coherent.
