Im an atheist but love religious music. I do believe that a higher power gave pipe organ designers and builders the talent to build these wonderful and powerful instruments, not to mention the talented people like Dr Weir who can play them with impunity
You may not be as much an atheist as you think. You are correct in your statement though. I only wish that higher power wouldn't have been so stingy when it gave me my organ playing ability.
The camera work is terrific as is the audio. If you want to get the color better if can be done. The red tint is off and needs to be bit brighter. But still stunning!
Dr. Weir… only you can know how beautifully you played "Tu Es Petra." Your use of the power and true dynamics of the pedals was equal to / or better than… Virgil Fox. Personally I voter, "better than." Both of you created flare…" inferi non ". Virgil used this realization early in his career and at times more dramatically, but you used it more according to the Mulet's score. Personally, I think Music is in the ear… not on the page. Bravo, Dr. Weir. !! Every thing I've heard you play or seen you do on television… or UA-cam is of the highest quality. Your humble servant, CVD
Charles Davis To play at this tempo to me is frankly ridiculous, and I didn't rate Virgil Fox either, however his version of Come Sweet Death is absolutely delicious.
daniela berton Grandi donne organiste ce ne sono state ! Es. Jeanne Demessieux e soprattutto la grandissima Marie-Claire Alain, una delle più importanti organiste del nostro tempo. :-)
A slightly crude comment but VERY true. How could an organist this talented not get a sexual frisson playing this piece so well on such a powerful instrument. I get one just listening to it VERY loudly! Wonderful. I get the same thrill when listening to sopranos hitting top c also loudly. BRRRR , SHUDDER and GOOSE pimples aplenty. Excellent!
Dear Dr. Weir; I have only one criticism: I don't like the way this great work was recorded. In short, It was unworthy of you and your great, great talent. But you did it up brown. Congratulation! CVD
Sheffields cathedral organ is crap. City Hall organ WAY better. Im amazed she agreed to waste her superb talent on such a mediocre instrument, however we all enjoyed her performance. Says a lot about her talent though getting the best out of a mediocre instrument.
I played this at my senior recital, back in 1968. I practiced it for three years! I just got chills hearing it again.
Three weeks would've been easier 😉👍
Absolutely wonderful. No words for this kind of art. What a magnificent piece of music.
Beautiful music there is superb recording by Stephen Tharp at St Patrick's Cathedral New York.
One of the greatest of the French 'runaway train' toccatas!
Definitely
'runaway train' toccatas! Love it! How true!
Wow, awesome performance. The piece is fantastic and terrifying. Brava!
Wow! What a powerful and masterful performance. I'm sure Ms. Weir pedalling legs and feet would be St. Peter's rock!
I like the symbolic cross at the end. Super performance.
Smacks of Popery.
@@SirReginaldBlomfield1234 Your reply smacks of idiocy.
A very fine performance.
And a very fine experience for the listener.

I didn't knew this composer. Magnificent, powerful... 😊
A wonderful performance.
She totally reminds me of Huw Lewis. Fantastic performers, putting life's experiences into the sonic realm through the organ.
I had the privilege of studying with Huw during my undergrad years.
I saw Dr Weir play years ago in Sheffield and she thrilled me then. This has completely blown me away!!!! Outstanding talent and performance
Now you have satisfied my craving for really GREAT music!!
with sincere admiration Joan
Wow! My wrists hurt.
Wonderful!
Thank you, Haupt, for posting this.
Gillian Weir. Brilliant and Best.
superb!

Dame Gillian Weir in this performance plays the Mulet a bit fast for me ! Nevertheless this is a outstanding performance !
exactly my opinion too. Darn fast, but Ms. Weir is an outstanding musician.
@@Airy59 and she played it perfectly
Bravo !!!!!!! Very Well Done ...
Chris Reece This is an exciting interpretation of a very demanding piece of music.
Super
Somehow this is more difficult than it sounds - you got a workout! Well done!
John Sammut Ealing London. Fantastic performance, bringing forth the colours of this instrumemt in perfect harmony.
Excellent...
well done, impressive.

Phantom Of The Opera you’re ridiculous.
Sounds a bit like boellmann toccata
Boelman,s toccata is 10 times easyer to play
+ Jhr. Humphrey: Grandios
Bravissima! Finalernte una donna!!!!!
daniela berton Grandi donne organiste ce ne sono state ! Es. Jeanne Demessieux e soprattutto la grandissima Marie-Claire Alain, una delle più importanti organiste del nostro tempo. :-)
Grazie, a me piace molto l'organo come strumento, ma ho sempre sentito uomini suonare per me è una novita.
Comunque fa piacere!
W le donne!
The best!!!! The very fucking best!!!!!!!
Where is this played ?
Sweden - it says in the blurb below the video
Superb...looking at her face at te end.....she has just finished making love with the instrument.

Don't think she's ever had a sexual frisson in her life before !!
She probably did that so she could bring the swell box down more easily
All you know-it-all commenters, shut up, just listen - you can have your turn to play after it's over@!

Whats wrong with it?
syhooverman nothing is wrong with it. Organs in general are difficult to record.
It is not music but only virtuosity ! This organist does not understand French romantic music ... BAD!
You don’t know what you’re talking about
this is EXACTLY how it's suposed to go. I'm not sure what you were expecting.
am an organist and I play Tu es Petra. No acoustics in the church to play at this speed otherwise it's very bad. Stephen Tharp is better!!
Sheffields cathedral organ is crap. City Hall organ WAY better. Im amazed she agreed to waste her superb talent on such a mediocre instrument, however we all enjoyed her performance. Says a lot about her talent though getting the best out of a mediocre instrument.
I think this performance was in Sweden.
As a performer, you rarely get to choose. They ask you and you agree. It is your job to make the best of it.
