Failed, Dangerous and Abysmal AeonAir RDH30EB Dehumidifier

- Yet another broken, abysmal, and dangerous recalled modern dehumidifier, this time the AeonAir branded unit model RDH30EB. These were manufactured in China by New Widetech.
This particular unit utilized R-134a refrigerant, but the coil is such poor quality that it still leaked. At the time of this taping, there was no refrigerant left in the system.
The compressor would not start with the existing capacitor, I'm not sure if this is due to it drifting or the compressor becoming partially locked due to lack of lubrication. Either way, the compressor would have been operating at extremely high temperatures without the refrigerant present and/or being stalled--a certain recipe for disaster while enclosed in a flammable plastic case.
The following other models sold under this brand were also recalled:
RDH30EB
RDH30EB-1
RDH45EB
RDH45EB-1
RDH60EB
RDH70EB
RDH70EB-1
RDH70EDP
WDH-945EL
WDH-945EL-1
In addition to all those models, there were also numerous units recalled that were made by New Widetech and sold under these brands:
Amana
ArcticAire
Classic
Commercial Cool
Danby
Danby Designer
Danby Premier
De'Longhi
Edgestar
Friedrich
Generations
Haier
Honeywell
Jmatek
AirTek
Idylis
Ivation
Perfect Aire
SuperClima
Whirlpool
Whynter
Modern dehumidifiers are absolute junk. Out of all the cheap home appliances made today, for whatever reason, the dehumidifiers are several tiers below everything else in terms of safety and reliability. They consistently fail within just a few years of service. They are made with poor quality components compiled into a poor design.
With over 15 million recalled dehumidifiers in circulation since 2001, with another batch of recalls being released as recently as August 2023, it's clear that modern dehumidifiers should be avoided at all costs. They are dangerous, unreliable, and a complete waste of money. It is more important than ever to preserve the remainder of the vintage dehumidifiers from the 1990s and older--those are the only units that will provide decades upon decades of safe, reliable operation. - Наука та технологія
The reason why is because people absolutely love your rants and I am one of them
Thanks for letting me know.
wow bro what a freak show well i cant wait to see what you do with the fan maybe make it into a exhaust fan or something i enjoyed the video
20:33 that was the saddest, cheapest ,china pridest compressor startup I've ever heard!
Me too.
I 100% agree. That's Chinese compressors for you, I want my recips back!
I think the people just like your rants on how awful this stuff is.
Perhaps
What a horrible and sad piece of equipment. These dehumidifiers are absolutely the worst of all the garbage modern appliances. The startup sound was the worst I have ever heard from any compressor. Meanwhile we have dehumidifiers from 50+ years ago that still work great under any and all circumstances.
I agree, dehumidifiers are the worst of all the appliances made today.
That is the worst and cheapest sounding compressor startup I've ever heard. Even a Copeland scroll starting up in reverse sounds better than that POS. 😂
This is an absolutely awful piece of equipment.
i like compresser startups, but god dang thats loud
This thing is junk.
I’ll buy a vintage unit first, and if not that a Waykar all day any day.
Those small Waykar units do seem to be the best option today. I can't speak for the larger capacity units though. Something tells me they're not as good.
The guy I work for had a basement flood and just bought a new dehumidifier. I offered him for free an old Kenmore model I had, but he wanted something "efficient." He had it for around a month before it failed and they gave him a new one on warranty, they didn't even want the old one back, they just said to cut off the cord and send a picture to them because they had no plans on fixing it. It was a hisense if I didn't mention it. The replacement is still running, but I wouldn't trust it. Also, when the bucket is full, it starts beeping and doesn't stop until you shut it off.
I on the other hand have a 1980s Kenmore unit with R-12 (not the one I offered to give him, that was slightly different) which had ran under a house 24/7 for over 20 years, and then the fan motor siezed due to not being oiled and the compressor ran with no fan for who knows how long. It got unplugged and sat there in that damp crawlspace for probably another 2 or 3 years before I got it and put it outside of my shed where it sat in the rain for a year before I took it in. Guess what it needed... I oiled the fan motor, and it is back in regular service in my shed. I have no idea how the fan motor didn't burn out, but it didn't.
Those old Whirlpool units were borderline indestructible. Excellent equipment.
@@JordanU yeah, aside from the buckets, I have 3 uinits and 1 bucket because they all cracked somehow.
@@WalterKnoxI don't have good luck with the buckets either. Definitely a shame.
Where do you get that long Phillips Driver bit at the beginning of the video? Can you tell me how long it is?
For now I'm using a regular long screwdriver. Having a driver a bit like that would make things a lot faster and easier.
I don't remember where it came from. It's probably at least 12". I'm sure there's some at the local hardware store, or on Amazon.
I have seen two of these at a Goodwill once
Not good.
I like it
OK
I love your channel, and I was wondering if you have a place you trust to buy capacitors? Thank you in advance for your time.
Digi key or mouser . I try to stay Japanese or American capacitors if possible. I don't know what he uses.
@jasonk5979 Thank you for the reply and the information.
@@dioozzy369 I use AmRad capacitors.
@JordanU Thank you, brother, for this information. Your videos are so informative and so relaxing like asmr. That's a compliment.
Did you look up the model of this to see if it was a recalled dehumifier? They had a massive dehumidifier recall that involved several brands due to catching fire. They sent free replacements and made you cut the cord, and send in a photo. They usually do that with warranty replacements. They dont want the appliance back as to ship it back is not worth it.
Yep recalled model. I commented before watching the whole video. Yep complete pieces of junk. Now they are charged with dangeroous r 32 a flamable refrigerent. Just sad sad sad.
There have been countless dehumidifier recalls since the 2000s when many of them switched to this stupid plastic design. Very dangerous appliances at this point for absolutely no reason. I don't trust any of them that aren't metal.
Companies need to stop designing crap like this. Everything is made of plastic now. Plastic is such a crappy frame for anything, especially something like a humidifier. Yes, its light weight for all the weaklings out there but the build quality and efficiency suffer. Toss that POS!
The unit is on wheels, the weight, within reason, should be a non-issue! It's nothing but cost cutting.
I don think that brand around anymore.
OK
what fan is that at 31:53 with no blade and stuff i got same reason to get the older stuff bc they actaully work unlike todays china pride
New Wide Technology 😂
Old Narrow Garbage.
This unit is so cheap that they couldn't even put a name brand compressor in it 😂. If this unit was made by Midea I would think slightly higher of it, but it's not. Gree hasn't ever made anything good so I'm not surprised that this failed and had to be recalled.
There's probably nothing wrong with the compressor itself, if it wasn't run for weeks on end without refrigerant, it would probably still be working fine. New WideTechnology is as much of a brand name as anything else is today. Midea seems to make some of the best of what's available today, but I wouldn't trust even their dehumidifiers.
If Samsung made a dehumidifier
Samsung has become quite a dangerous brand over the last few years. I would no longer buy any of their stuff.
@@JordanU same with some lg stuff
Vintage or not , all failed dehumidifiers are abysmal.
That is completely unreasonable.
But completely true.!
@@JordanUI respect your opinion, and I hope we can have a friendly discussion about our different viewpoints.
@@rogerslawncare7260 It's not true at all. If a 50 year old dehumidifier fails after operating continuously for 50 years, that's not abysmal at all.
@@JordanU
I see what you mean, especially when we're talking about a 50-year-old dehumidifier. It's quite an achievement if it can run continuously for such a long time. In that context, even if it experiences a temporary failure, it might not be considered abysmal. Vintage appliances often have remarkable longevity, and their occasional hiccups can be seen as part of their history and character.
