it's nice to see people reuse older parts when possible instead of creating more e-waste. you might be able to get better idle power saving by working on the c-states, i believe you can view those via h-top
Thanks. I don't think I can see the c-states in htop, but I know I can tune them with powertop. I've done that with another machine, haven't thought about it with this one. May have to give it a look.
@@ntgm20 i may have given you the wrong utility name.. it would be interesting to see the before and after tuning power efficiency. always fun to see how much you can squeeze out by tinkering with stuff
Simmilar story here, having old Sun Microsystem E-ATX case with tons of internal 3.5 inch drive bay. First system running Xeon X5450 with MSi P45 motherboard with 4GB of DDR3 and 8x 500GB drive back in 2017. The last upgrade happened in 2021 running Xeon E5-2695v3 with chinese Huananzhi motherboard and 7x 4TB rebranded WD Purple drive. Sadly the chasis is retiring back in early 2022, because bad airflow and I recently move out the old house and buy used 40U rackmount frame with 4U rackmounted chasis.
@@ntgm20 "Best" one maybe in below the staircase if you live in 2 story "American" house, or like me, putting it on spare bathroom which already have good sound isolation and anexhaust fan.
We have a closet under, but that is where cleaning supplies are organized AND the network distribution is. I'm hanging things from a wire shelf, it looks pretty bad but I'll get it all cleaned up and post something on that too.
Hey sir. I wanted to thank you for your past mini pc reviews and the comparison table you have put them all together. Based on that, I've made my own choise and it was perfect hit. Appreciate your efforts!
Thanks. I have run into a snag. The system started resetting randomly. Thinking it could be the MB I moved the drives to another device. When I finally got back to it months later it turns out the problem was the reset switch. So now both the power and reset switches have gone bad in the case. Some day I'll replace them and keep it going.
I think you picked good parts for this. some met say it's overkill, but you have a system that could easy run 8+ years.

Very cool, thanks for sharing! I don't have the right space for anything rack mounted, but that might not always be so.

Thank you so much! I'm happy to know that information I provide can be helpful!
@@ntgm20 have you already made up your mind what are you going to do with all your mini pcs? Are you carrying plans of some project?
You can never have enough 5.25” bays!
I have SATA expansion cards, could fill them up with optical drives I may never use. :)
You do have some holes in your case to route some of your power supply cables to the back of the case.
True, there are some but very little clearance on the other side. If I rebuild it I may see how I can better the cable management.
i like this video, i was thinking of doing the same thing..
