Though mainly British instrumentalists, in addition to Ack Van Rooyen, Bert also brought over Herb Geller (sax and flute)- seen at around 4.50 on flute, the magnificent Rolf Ahrens on drums, Ladi Geisler on bass guitar and a few others. I remember being at this concert with my father and uncle when I was 13, and it was one of THE events, and gave Bert the taste for live performing. We Brits were major fans long before the Germans and long after the Americans!

GENIAL!!

The sad and untimely passing of Bert Kaempfert left a big void in the world of music. He is not easily forgotten and we are the less without him. This recording befits our memories of him and his musical genius.

A big thanks has to go to Frank, for sharing this historic concert with all of us.
" If people know my tunes.......that's enough" Bert Kaempfert once said. Guess the internet and YTube will contribute considerably to make Bert's music known to an even wider audience !

Never had idea of Kaempfert dedicating such a lovely song as "LOVE" to King Cole, though I heard it in his voice. Great detail !!!

I was a fan already from Bert 60 years ago. And I'm still thrilled when I hear other live recordings like this one.
A pitty that Ack van Rooyen (the bugle solist) isn't along us since last year.

What a wonderful music this man produced! All my childhood is flashed back in time and I feel happy again! That's the magic of music and specially this orchestra that reminds of a wonderful time when my father used to listen with my motherBK and Ray Conniff and others before they went to bed.
and I was there, awaken in my bedroom, every night waiting for this special time too!

Ohne Ihn wäre kein Kaempfert Sound entstanden. Auch James Last hatte ihn, glaube ich immer dabei.

The flugelhorn soloist is Ack van Rooyen. He is my favorite flugelhorn player! Therefore I have transcribed a series of 12 of his best chorusses, including one over this tune with Bert K. . Order the book incl. CD with the original sound tracks under jazz-alive.de!

I could not agree more. Bert Kaempfert transcended "easy listening" - there was jazz, light music, dance band stuff, and way more. He was a great arranger, a great composer and a one off. His arrangements and many of his compositions were complex, required the highest quality musicians and were worthy of, in a different genre, of the best classical musicians. Wonderful stuff!

Fabulous. Was at the concert with a largely UK orchestra plus star Fluegal Horn player, Ack van Rooyen, who has had no equal for lyrical playing, this side of the Atlantic since 1945. Thanks for wonderful memories. CB

VELVET suit in the Racing Green table and the music swings mercilessly well. Just like Mr. Peter Klemt's live control is perfect. Without him, no Kaempfert Sound would have come about. James Last always had it with him, I think.
Kaempfert. A sydonym, as it were, in a musical post-war reparation performance. Correct and unobtrusive in the well thought-out, simple arrangement skills. Five trumpets and trumpets of the same kind. An uncastrated carpet of sound of the same kind. Strings in the background until you drop. Only in Tuxedo Junction ARE ALL OF YOU ALLOWED to break out once in the pulled arrangement. A large number of the musicians are later also with Hans Last. What a LIVE quality. Wasn't the sound engineer the well-known Klempt?
