This traverse is no joke and to be able to do it and film it with such great views and angles is a testament to the skill of these guys. Jefferson may not be the highest mountain to climb but its it probably the most nerve wrecking on that traverse around to the summit push.
Man you guys needed to go a year later, hiked through there in May 2019 and there was a section on the PCT maybe a mile and a half south of the Pamelia Lake trail junction that was wiped clear or the brush and trees by avalanche. You could have hiked straight up to the top of the tree line.
NEVER a dull adventure. NEVER! Stunning scenery perfectly shot and great repartee/banter, as usual. So sorry about the GoPro. Hopefully some good Samaritan will see your post and keep an eye out for you.
I've been binge watching all your videos for a couple weeks now, and this one might have the best one liners lol. Keep up the adventures, this is my new favorite youtube channel hands down!
Very nice video. My wife and I were there 2 years ago as well, having the same issue, but decided to continue up through the bushes, which took so much energy out of us that we never made it to the summit. This was the first mountain we climbed after arriving there from Austria for our summer holiday which included Rainier as well. Being used to perfectly groomed routes on every mountain in the Alps it made us a bit nervous for the other mountains, but luckily it only got better after Jefferson :) after seeing this video we at least don't feel like idiots anymore for not being able to find the "trail"
The MA's deserve hard won praise, in offering the most up front comprehensive on the web, for backcountry endurance sports. This includes all of it, from route descriptions to psychological factors that determine the ground rules for what real time challenges might arise. Superb video, audio, and editing - over the top!
Was on a rescue/recovery on Jefferson's SW ridge recently and thought about you guys during that miserable steep bushwhacking. It was infuriating. And also about your GoPro on the Milk Glacier. Stay safe out there.
Beautiful video. Great shots from up on the mountain. Beautiful at 8:10 of distant peaks. Very clear day and great clear camera lens. Drone shots are nice. Some dangerous crossings too. Thanks for sharing.
Had the same deal with my watch. Got hooked on my backpack strap while taking it off and stood and watched as my watch slid across a boulder into a ravine. Climbed down but never found it.
I lost my camera in a cordura bag the same size and color as the ROCK FIELD I dropped it into. MIraculously I found it in one piece. A bit 'o' foam lined the bag (no bigger than a compact camera) and it musta done the job. I still have it! (from 1992)
Really cool videos on your channel, this included. I've wondered for a couple years what skiing Jefferson might look like and it's nice to have some insight. Beautiful drone footage. The aerial shots take these videos to the next level, but keep an eye out for wilderness regulations! Drones aren't allowed in designated wilderness areas, which Jefferson is inside of. Keep up the sick videos.
Thanks for watching! Don't worry I launched my drone from the Non Wilderness side of the south ridge where the Warm Springs Reservation butts up against the wilderness. I've tried my best to follow the wilderness rule, ever since I discovered its existence.
Actually, Milk Creek Glacier is long melted away and is no more... it is still on the maps, but just bare rock resides there during periods of low snow in late September/early October.
Whenever I entertain an idea to emulate any of your 'hikes', I immediately lay down until the feeling subsides...which is usually measured in seconds. Did I mention that I just turned my thermostat up a little, I thought I was detecting a little draft. Hey sweetheart, can you make those eggs over easy and my back is just a little sore
OH NO!! I love how yes all the rocks look exactly like a gopro, because this is the issue I have when looking for a lost fly mask, grazing muzzle, or hoof boot for my horses in the horse pasture (manure looks exactly like what I am looking for, as well!)
No bush whacking in OR. :) It’s brutal. Great work guys. I just started watching. It’s awesome. Have you done the St Helens circumnavigation? It’s a blast.
Dear KrazyKrzysztof, I’m writing here with hope that this message finds you in good health. I’m a big fan you. And I really really miss the product reviews you made back when your channel was active. It’s hard to choose a favorite one but the I bought 3 Turtlebeach 400X headphones after thoroughly watching your review on it. If you read this please let us know how have you been. Again, thanks a million.
We attempted the SW ridge a few days ago and got through where you guys were shut down. I guess the key is to try a bit earlier in the year before it grows to thick, or maybe we just got lucky. But that doesn't mean that there was a great deal of profanity on that day!
4:20 This is exactly how black lassic is in northern California, except a lot smaller. you see it the whole time and are right at the base but have to walk around the entire mountain for the easiest ascent. I did it when there was 3 foot of heavy wet pow in some places in my snowboard boots. its a sick "little" mountain almost 6k. Looks like a cone volcano too but is an exotic terrain that was once seabed
I have a North Face Inferno -40 Goretex bag which I use about 1ce every 10 years. Last year I slept in a small sailboat in December. It was.. good.. but I wasn't overheated.
I was so hoping for a happy ending. All the work you put into sharing your adventures with us mortals, I figured your karma account was full and you definitely deserved a break. The fact that it's still out there to be found...is that in any way an incentive for me to go up there and find it... wait for it....drum roll...the envelope please... in a word... NO
Manzanita! I lost my bike in that stuff. Stashed it in there, couldn't find it when I came out 5 days later. It was at the Pamelia Lake trailhead. (Found the bike eventually)
Ive heard that Shale lake or Coyote lake are great places to make base camp at. They have established sites and are right at the tree line on the PCT. Also might find a common footpath up that south ridge. Nice traverse on Jefferson Park Glacier, but man, you made me nervous with the time of day you crossed back.
You're right about being nervous. I had been told on Hood not to get caught out near the summit as the day heated up. I learned why on Jefferson. I think we crossed back as late as you would want to. The rocks started rolling right as we were halfway through the crossing.
@@MediocreAmateur you ever in Oregon and want a classic mediocre amateur sufferfest, do the 3 Sisters summit marathon. I've done them individually, but I've heard it's one of the hardest traverses in the Oregon Cascades
@@drewwatts2803 I would love for them to do that. I'm sure it's on their list. Partly I just want some good footage for the summit of North Sister, similar to how this one provides some good footage for the summit of Jefferson. Jefferson and NS are def the two hardest cascade volcanoes. Unless you get altitude sickness I guess...
I feel your GoPro pain... Lost a couple over the years as well. One underneath the royal gorge bridge in Taos, NM and one under the bridge in twin falls Idaho. One would have to go swimming to recover them but anyone is welcome to them :-)
I'm going to Jefferson next month to find three things: -The GoPro -Danny's sanity -The correct route off of the PCT and up the SW ridge. I could use your help with the third. Seriously, looks like leaving the PCT where the lower bit of the ridge intersects the trail is the right move. I know there was an avy that cleared the way near there last year, but I'm not real keen on hiking up a known slide path. Do you think your summer attempt was thwarted just by virtue of being too late in the season? Too much growth? Any idea if May might be better in that regard? And is my approximation for where to leave the PCT about right?
Great video. Solid trek. Traverse looked sketchy as. What do you do about bears raiding your camp while you sleep? In aus the snakes can't get into your tent
This one looks so much easier than Borah but its actually a lot more dangerous. Maybe the route is not as masterful as the dirty traverse, maybe winter conditions make it a lot more demanding.
If it makes yall feel any better, Jefferson is a BITCH! Took me twice to summit it, and it is by far the scariest climb I have ever done by the difficulty and danger metric (almost died in a freak storm on Grand Teton, so that takes the cake, but not due to a scary and dangerous climb), and I have climbed the 20 Primary Cascade Volcanoes. My dad has been on it five times and only summited twice. I have a number of other friends who have climbed it, and not a single one has had a good experience. This peak blows man - glad you got it done on your first try! Sorry about the GoPro :(

I became disabled for life out of nowhere 3 yrs ago at age 60 and I would give just about anything just to walk into and sit for awhile in just about any one of these places that you guys go to! Just to sit and look out from the top of a mountain out in the Rockies one more time! It's so true, you don't know what you have until it's gone!
A great lifetime adventure your grand kids will be talking about it boasting; my grandfather and his friend skied Mount Jefferson back in the summer of 2018 here’s the UA-cam video to prove it
It depends upon where you are. Allowed in most of the lesser-regulated areas. Severely frowned upon, or explicitly against the rules, in places like national parks and more sensitive areas.
You have to respect Mount Jefferson. The manzanita will thwart your attempts to leave the trail. The weather can change in an instant. Even if the sky is blue, the winds on the peak can howl at over 100 MPH. Do not go to Mount Jefferson with expectations and demands. She will bitch-slap you. You have no idea how lucky you were to get a nice day with no gale-force winds
I definitely can appreciate a windless summit. But I can tell from my time watching Helens, Adams and Rainier on mountain forecast, windless days are few and far between.
"Couldn't see the mountain, trail seemed like it went on forever"
Sounds like the Mt. Jefferson wilderness to me hahahahaha
“We left this parking lot boys, and we returned almost men”. LOL
Great job, you guys brought a drone. Like you didn't already have enough to carry on your backs. This is absolutely brilliant. Worth losing a GoPro.

Gnarly traverses! Glad you go to ski some nice corn snow.

It was one of the more challenging peaks that we've done. Might be a little easier late summer. Thanks for watching.

Have lost a good camera and a GPS watch under similar circumstances, so: sympathies!
Shouldn’t you guys have roped up together on that traverse?
Can you post the list of supplies needed? Thanks!
where do you get the shoulder strap water bottle holder? better than taking off the pack to get it

How does one apply for an internship?
very surprised yall dont have more subs. love the vids!

Yeah, losing that GoPro sucks for sure.
