I built the entirety of Academy City from A Certain Magical Index in Cities Skylines!

EDIT: By popular request, I've uploaded the city to the Steam Workshop. Note that it requires a lot of DLC and mods to use, and I honestly have no idea if it will work out the box... If anyone manages to get it working on their PC, by all means let me know.

For the longest time I've dreamed of an open world Academy City you can explore. This is by no means on that level of quality, but it might be the closest we'll get to seeing Academy City in 3D. Thanks for watching! ❤

One thing! I was catching up on the ITEM manga the other night, and there they depict a multi level overpass in the battle with Kouzaku! I can't say for sure whether that is the District 7 overpass or not, but it might be!

Man, it's videos like this that make me want to do something similar but beautified and detailed.
But then I get to playing around with Procedural Objects and realize it's 3 in the morning. I've only done roughly a street at that point.

Amazing video, must have been a herculean task to compile all the diferent places and little details from 50+ novels to recreate the city faithfully. Watching this made me appreciate To Aru way more
Here's my idea as to why it's 23.
He named the airport district 23 quite early in the series, but later went "oh, crap, that's way to many! What am I going to fill the other districts with? Well I'm definitely not going to make more!"

Ok, this is seriously incredible. A sub goes just for this. Great work. A question though, cause I'm not knowledgable with cities skylines: how is the size of the city here (we have cars and people for reference) to the supposed 17km of actual Academy City you mentioned? Like is it roughly the same? Is it like 3x times too small (meaning we can expect roughly 3x the buildings, alleyways, bus stops etc. in the real thing)?
@@xellos540 there was a bit of guesstimation for the scale, but I tried to keep it as close to a 1:1 scale as possible with all the information we have.
If I remember correctly, someone mentioned loosely, that district 23’s name logic is numerically 2+3 equals 5. Then with district 10 where it’s ghetto and “lives get cut in half” by being poor or experimented on, 10/2=5. The parallel was the airport added to the population for the city but ghetto slashed/reduced population to academy city. Both are important for the sake of research on topic #5. 🎉😮😊
The architectural layout of such a city 🏙️ is marvelous in itself. Such as in how this is what they should be teaching kids to do. Along with your video importantly.
Each district of Academy City is involved in the science and research of one field of study about humans. 🧬

CS1 has the scale of their building roughly 1.6x the size of the building irl with consistent scale match a human. Thet's why the game seems a bit cartoonish stock. If it is a scale is properly match to irl 1:1 like in CS2, it would be truly epic.

I would love to, but I feel like I need a Cities Skylines expert to help me even try. The city runs on thousands (yes 4 digits) of addons, and if just one of them breaks, chunks of the city can end up missing. I try loading into it now and there's missing parking garages for example. I have no idea how I'd go about sharing it in a way that people can access 😅
But if any experts think they can help me, I'm all ears.
