  • 45 years ago today, on October 14, 1977 (also a Friday), Bing Crosby passed on. It was and it still is a sad day for family members, friends, fans, and the music world. This day shouldn't be a day when we "just" remember something as tragic as the death of one of the most beloved human beings who'd ever walked this earth (if not the most beloved during his own lifetime), but a day when we look back on his life and how it impacted and keeps impacting us. Born almost 120 years ago, passed away 45 years ago... and Bing still stays relevant, and, more importantly, very warm to the hearts of so many. I was born 27 years after he went, and yet, he has become as big a part in my life as barely somebody has. I never actually got the feeling that he'd ever passed.
They say, you only die when people forget you. Bing is not gone. He is living on, actually currently gliding into a journey of wide rediscovery. Whether family, friend, colleague, or fan, each in their own way, we all remember and become more conscious of the love he shared and the love we share for him, the good deeds and the talents, the laughs and the tears, what was and what could have been, the fascinating personality, and, most importantly, the human being. The human being who, through his talents, luck, and hard work, was put into an extraordinarily demanding position which brought many a difficulty with it, and, no matter what it was, he remained strong, survived it, somehow managed to juggle through, and, most amazingly, he managed to preserve his own original self, his good nature and will - when any other person, if put in the same position, would've long broken down under all the weight.
📽 The people speaking in the tribute above are: Bing, Ella Fitzgerald, Grace Kelly, Fred Astaire, Bob Hope, Dean Martin, Rosemary Clooney, Phil and Gary Crosby (sons), Frank Capra, Mitzi Gaynor, Merle Oberon, Skitch Henderson, Alistair Cooke (broadcaster), Carroll Carroll (radio writer), Hal Kanter (radio writer), and Tony Thomas (interviewer).
"I've lost a very good friend... a truly good friend... And I think the world has lost... a wonderful human being."
~ Dean Martin on Bing’s passing

This is such a wonderful tribute, well done. Bing was born as you so beautifully wrote over and hundred and twenty years ago, and yet his voice and taste will resonate in so many of us down the ages. Thank you for this upload, I am so happy to have subscribed to your channel.

Bing's recording of Unchained Melody was the best version that North and Zaret wrote. Unfortunately, UMG recently took it down and blocked it last month. I loved that version of Unchained Melody he did! I even made a painting of it!
