I met Paul Freeman around 20 years ago when I was an extra on New Street Law. Such a really nice guy, and happy to talk Raiders with me when we were having a break.
Saw it there back in 2003. They were closed that day but I could see it from behind the chain link fence and got a photo of me with it. Then also hit the San Fran City Hall steps (end of Raiders) and the Treasure Island base (Berlin Airport in LC) all in one day.
If you go to Tesco's supermarket in Elstree London, you will be parking your car on the ground where many of the I.J iconic scenes were filmed ( first 3 movies ). Not to mention Star Wars 77-83. There are even some surrounding trees of the old studio that 'are' noticeable in some scenes.
@@Thomas_Esson Hey there. You made that?. Yes I saw this a while back, and used it last year at the studio for a walk around. It's a shame they eliminated the old water tank. But i did find the exact spot where they do the motorbike escape from the castle ( Indy Crusade)- along the side of the pond- featuring those recognisable trees in the distance. Which are on the border of the old lot. Thanks so much for making that. Very valuable information.
@@aboutface7961 Yeah, I got frustrated that no one had apparently made a detailed version, and ventured down the rabbit hole. I'm very pleased to hear that it got used physically on the ground there! So do I understand correctly if you stand by the east corner of the Tesco, you'll recognize the tree tops to the southwest? I've yet to visit, but one day I'll have to spend an afternoon of awkward excitement tracking down which parking spots correspond to the idol temple, which aisles correspond to the Millennium Falcon, etc.
I've noticed Adam nearly always puts down anything he's holding either quite roughly, or "quickly" ? I often feel confused by the way he handles things, when he loves objects so much.
Exactly. "On today's episode of 'Watch Adam Savage Mercilessly Handle Priceless Props' he slams down Belloq's staff from ROTLA and then yanks on a 45 year old wraith." Did you see him crank on Captain America's stunt shield in an earlier episode? He was told to give it a little bend and he just starts crushing the damn thing. I'm certain that nobody had treated that item like that since filming ended.
Hi Adam, would it be possible to ask for how Prop Store suggests looking after and preserving props? It might help people out there with Props to safeguard and preserve them for the future better. I'd say too that some prop owners aren't going to be able to afford professional or expensive care so working to a reasonable budget too...? Thanks!
@ so, Satan was pissed they opened the Ark, and not God? You think god doesn’t take vengeance? The Old Testament is full of god being vengeful. When Indy described the “lightning” from the Ark in the drawing, did he call it “real wrath-of-hell stuff”? Was it the power of hell that would level mountains and cause armies to be invincible? “Thats not what heaven looks like.” Duh. It’s what an island in the middle of nowhere looks like. You think God’s gonna part the clouds and show heaven? You think angels can’t be terrifying? Biblical descriptions sure make them seem terrifying.
Props are expendable in nature; things built to do a certain job for a limited period. In a lot of cases keeping them in storage would cost more than its worth.
@@patricksanders858 sometimes actually often the things that end up in the hands of the actors and such are stolen by them. And sometimes no one just bad and I especially if the actor is a big name. Sometimes they are allowed to take a few things. But also studios will sometimes do an auction because they need to clear out space.
Many companies sell off their props on the site The Prop Store which this is basically an ad for Ive bought quite a few props from there and they do official sponsored auctions all the time
Studios also rent props and costumes (especially firearms), or an artist could contractually arrange to retain ownership of their original works following production. So some items were never the studio's property to begin with.
Adam is so reckless with these items. "On today's episode of 'Watch Adam Savage Mercilessly Handle Priceless Props' he slams down Belloq's staff from ROTLA and then yanks on a 45 year old wraith." Watch him crank on Captain America's stunt shield in an earlier episode. He was told to give it a little bend and he just starts crushing the damn thing. It’s a shame that these sort of things would have been thrown out and collectors could get stuff but now you can only get items if you’re rich. The market has become too big and now fans who are mere mortals can’t get near props anymore.
Not really true. Sure, the higher-end and popular titles are rising as this relatively young hobby predictably gains wider attention and acceptance. Such is life. But the lower-end and obscure titles (incl. older films whose core fans have aged out) remain fairly accessible and can still yield very cool pieces that make you go "I can't believe I own this." Just earlier this year, I won multiple screen-matched, principle-character-held props from one of my favorite shows at starting bids of 50. You've got to have patience, flexibility, and a willingness to research, but it's absolutely attainable.
I wish whoever takes the thumbnail shots/pictures STOPS making AS look like a 6 year old with a new toy... He is in his mid 50's for gods sake ... Does he think this is a good look? A normal mid 50's guy wouldn't look at props this way surely and I'm sure that click bait is not required
@@teknophyle1 Enthusiasm is one thing ... Over the top acting for the camera is another .... I feel when AS and Norm present together his overpowering and love of his own voice over Norm is sometimes downright ignorant... Why operate at 10 when your can get much better output at 5 or 6 ... 10 tends to distort as is the case here
Or, you know: a film museum which could put it on public display. When rich people buy things for their own ego enhancement, no-one gets to see them. Best wishes from Vermont 🍁🧡🍁

I love how a person from the production of a classic film is mentioned and Adam says that he has a connection with them, like a supervisor of his.
Steve Gawley. Google says he is 72 year old now.
I’ve seen Raiders I don’t know how many times and I’ve never really paid attention to Belloq’s staff until now, thanks for sharing it with!
Those Raiders of the lost Ark props can do real magic !
They instantly turned adult Adam into his 10 yr old self .
"It's beautiful!"
-Belloq
"ARRRRGGHHH"

Raiders is one of those movies that terrifies me but also glues me to a screen. Can't stand it but can't tear my eyes off of it!
Great to see these props are still around to share with us all still.
So simple yet so effective, even just as Adam moved around it looked good.
I love learning stuff like this! Cheers everyone.
The ghost, looks like a good fishing lure.
But I would hate to see the fish that would want to eat that.
Adam rocking the Nostromo outfit
Thought that’s what it was- Captain Dallas’s work uniform 😊
Such a simple, yet visually enticing prop.
Correction Adam, I believe Douglas Trumbull (RIP) did the effects for CE3K, not ILM.
Correct, his company was Future General Corporation, a subsidiary of Gulf + Western and Paramount.
0:00 “Great to see you, Gindy”
Have you been to the Oakland Aviation Museum to see the seaplane from Raiders?
Saw it there back in 2003. They were closed that day but I could see it from behind the chain link fence and got a photo of me with it. Then also hit the San Fran City Hall steps (end of Raiders) and the Treasure Island base (Berlin Airport in LC) all in one day.
@@thomasbergevin9477 I live in the bay and never knew.
I would want the headpiece of the staff of Ra.
Spooky and magnificent‼️

Indeed. On the RPF, I assembled satellite image overlay maps illustrating my best approximation of where the demolished buildings stood.

Hey Adam would love to see a one day build of a weapon like raygun from black ops now when they just released black ops 6
Yup the world is still normal. Time to nerd out with Adam.
Love everyone!
Very wholesome, you love to see it.
lol that little puppet was terrifying when i was a child. Its kind of cute =P
Did they let you make a casting of the staff head while you were there?
To have an audience with it! 🙂
That CLUNK when he puts the fragile staff back down

Well, Adam said it best himself, he's, "like a bullet in a chinashop" 😂.
I’m sure his excitement helps drive up the auction on some of these items so it’s a risk they are willing to take haha. I’m here for it!
Yeah I’ve watched a few videos of his and he’s very heavy handed with things.
ILM didn't do Close Encounters -- that was Doug Trumball.
WOW!

Did Adam weather Stephen Lane's vest?
SHE'S BEAUTIFUL!!!
The ghosts were spooky but somehow young me didn’t flinch at them but the banshee in Darby Ogill and the Little People scared the crap out of me!
Great video
One day Adam will get a full tour of his personal collection.

It was Doug and his Future General Corp.
@@tomwilson1006 Ah thanks.

“All hell breaks loose”
“All heaven”, I think you mean.

No….HELL…. That was definitely not what heaven looks like.

I thought this one was Skeletors staff from Masters of the Universe when seeing it in the cabinet.
Adam becomes more of an indiana jones character the older he gets
That tie fighter wing over Adam's shoulder looks a bit off.
cool
Adam ILM did not do close encounters
Always wonder how props end up in private hands - you’d think they’d be property of the major movie companies - at least the bigger movies.
They are given to staff and crew, bought at clearance auctions, kept by staff or crew and the good old " lost".
