I like to use rock salt, black pepper coarse, chili flakes, and clay. When you mixed it looks like literally crystals.

Beautiful projects - just a little tip for the book covering, just cut on an angle close to the corner, then it will join nicely on the inside (instead of overlapping and trimming all the time). I don’t know how to explain it properly - about an angle of 45 degrees.
