Some of these people commenting are unbelievable. It is definitely up to the Trooper to PROTECT HIS HORSE!!! What do people not understand??? Why have the lines and signs if the Trooper does not do his duty? Here’s an example of why they are told to keep people out of the box: in December when the Gunners were there and taking over the duties on horseback there was one female Gunner who totally ignored everything and let people stand shoulder to shoulder with the horse sometimes as many as 10 people crowding in while she stared across the street totally unfazed at following the posted rules. Finally on one of her duty days a soldier came literally running out of the barracks (on a posted video) into the crowd and right up to the Gunner and told her in no uncertain terms that she was to keep people away from the horse and out of the white box. He even walked the line of the white box to show her the parameters and she nodded that she understood. So, It’s very very very obvious that some of these guards are just ignoring orders and letting the “ petting zoo” continue. The 10% of the guards who are not following the rules and protecting his fellow soldier (which is the military horse) should be retrained by the fabulous female Guards who use their commanding voices in not letting a toe step over the line. Trust a woman to do the job right in the first place 👍 90% of the Troopers do a magnificent job in very diplomatically telling tourists to step back. Also, yes I am an American and I know in the states that if a soldier decided to ignore rules and make up their own there would be discipline and swift action. I love these British soldiers upholding the beauty of tradition with their uniforms and mounts but just wish each and every one of them would use their voices and uphold the rules. Yes I know there is no sign telling photo seekers to stay out of the lines however these lines aren’t graffiti or just there on a whim. The lines mean something and are there for a purpose.
