      So, he's got 9k into this Truck conversion... look at Craigslist in your area, under RV's, with a 7K-10k price range. I've seen numerous Class A RV's with 50,000 mileage for this price. I am NOT knocking him, everybody likes something different, and that's A-OK with me.... but there are options out there that are really nice for this money. I am in the mid-west, and the deals around here for used RV's are massive.

      @@ancientable1 first of all you've clearly never slept in an RV those flat mattresses are really thin that's a really thick mattress and their small kids. Also no way could you bought a nicer RV for that amount of money it would have been a crap hole. I'm not sure where you live but it must be really cheap there because where I live that would be hello expensive for anything. Also this is made from a box truck which is going to be a lot more durable than any RV which is only made to go on vacation occasionally and be kept in a garage otherwise. Ever looked in the walls of an RV they're full of mold... because you're not need to be a kept outside as long as most people keep them out there!

    Nice. I've had this idea in my head for years. And you actually did it. Very cool.
    I lived aboard a 27 foot trawler for 6 years. When my head (toilet) stopped working I rigged a composting toilet similar to what you have. But, if you don't want the smell, get a few small bags of sphagnum peat moss. You line your bucket with a plastic bag, add the peat moss, and get a large kitty litter scoop. After each poo you cover the waste in peat moss. You can immediately scoop it out and put it into a plastic bag (I used the bags I got each time I went grocery shopping, they're free), then take it to a dumpster and dispose of it. The peat moss not only shrouds the smell, but it also help in the breakdown of fecal matter, which is what compost does, it molecularly breaks down waste.

    • @korasadler3790
      @korasadler3790 3 роки тому

      I was thinking kitty litter, but peat moss is a game changer. I would use dried eucalyptus plants tied in bundles for the shower, also helps with smell.

    I grew up in a broken home raised by a single Dad. I had everything I wanted and more. But I had abandonment issues and I was lonely and acted out . I made horrible decisions which led to serious consequences. Luckily I got on the right path and changed my life. If I were given the choice to be raised by both parents and my sibling in a tiny home, or to be raised by a single parent away from my sibling yet live in luxury . I would choose tiny home living. LOVE! From what I remember the 'Tiny House Movement' was based on having a design that worked 4u and that was affordable; as in finding what you could as cheaply as possible/ or free/repurpose and then "luxury" came along and that's ok too but I think there's more satisfaction doing your best creativity and not borrowing $, etc to do a build.
    This IS a beautiful space - I'd be proud to call home - even more so because of keeping to budget.

    We built one as well out of an old used UHaul, we kept the rolling door , as well as we put in two windows in the back and a door in the center, when we traveled we pulled the roll door down over our entrance into the truck.
    We had a long kitchen counter with cabinets below and above , a bathroom with a camp toilet and the attic was also our two daughters bedroom.
    We had a futon bunk as well, the lower bed folded up into a couch and was slept on by my husband and I had the top bunk.
    We used the pull out ramp ( that came installed with the truck) as our walkway.
    We had an inverter system for power as well as out fitted with a power source to use electricity in campgrounds, as well as a propane stove like yours.
    We had a mini fridge and a mini AC , tv and DVD player and computer and fax , it was great and truly an adventure for sure for us.

Makes sense and not too hard or expensive to achieve.

    Me and my wife took a job but didn't have the ability to buy a house or even come up with money for rent so we stayed with family which didn't work we had no where to go so we got our camping gear out of storage and stayed in a campground for about 30 days until we had the money to rent a home . I know people look down on people who have things like this happen to them but I'll be honest with you we look back on those today and agree as a family they were some of the best days of our lives ! And we also home schooled our children . My daughter works at a hospital and my son is a Sergeant in the US Army ! I don't look down on these people I admire them ! They are doing what works for them and they are free and not owned by STUFF !
    Amazing people put such importance on material things that family is building a bond with each other and are making memories that will last a lifetime !

    I've seen a box truck where they added doors so that it would look like a regular delivery truck so that they could be stealth. That would still work here I think. They did it in such a way that they had access from the inside to open it. Wish I could remember who it was. They were in England I believe. At any rate, I love the home look of the back of the truck.

    • @FrankiesFancy
      @FrankiesFancy 5 років тому +10

      Yeah but if you're parked somewhere for the night and thieves see what they think is an abandoned delivery truck, they're more likely to break into it thinking there are goods to steal in there. They're less likely to mess with it if they think people are in there. Where there are people, there are phones to call cops, baseball bats and guns...
