    Hyundai Santa Fe has the appearance and features of a 26-year-old young man. The Honda Pilot looks and functions like a 67-year-old man.

    The Honda, still rocking that "traditional" styling for an SUV, Hyundai on the other hand flipped "traditional" on it's head. Love the new Santa Fe design language. The back is different for sure, but I like it.

    Honda has some catching up to do with its interiors and tech for sure! On the exterior, the C-pillar looks dated IMO, prefer the all glass or blacked out C-pillar detail on SUV’s as on the Santa Fe. The gas mileage on the Pilot is also a deal-breaker, they need to come out with a hybrid. For these reasons we’re looking into the Santa Fe Caligraphy Hybrid when it comes out as a road trip vehicle. The exterior of the Santa Fe has been polarizing for sure but I appreciate the practicality of the boxy design and like that it is different. Nice review 👍

      Thanks for the comment. Expect a mid-cycle refresh for the Pilot soon. That will likely not address powertrain, overall exterior look (maybe slight change), or significant changes in tech. I expect it will include a change to the multimedia screen, front end/grill, and maybe tail lights. Honda is definitely “resting on its laurels” right now with some outdated styling and tech. If it goes on too long, I would think some Honda loyalists may start to jump ship. A hybrid 4 cylinder powertrain is the likely replacement for the v6 in its next full redesign. I expect to see that first in the new Odyssey coming in 2026 model year, I believe.

    Pilot the easy choice.
    Unless I’m trading in the car within 3 yrs or leading it, you choose Honda.
    Hyundai is a good reliable vehicle these days yet the resale are atrocious compared to Honda. As in 20-25% difference after 5 yrs.
    If you are purchasing or putting a high amount down on a car…Honda Pilot.
    Proven generation too

    Man the Pilot interior looks like it came out 5 years ago lol. Those screens are miniscule. Also mind boggling the Honda is 1ft longer in length but overall the space difference does not feel substantially different. Also the Pilot should be offering a massaging/reclining seats, suede like headliner, the orbit 360 camera, blind spot cameras (why did Honda stop?), power rear seats, LED rear turn dignals, 64 way ambient lightning,etc. Only feature the pilot has over the Santa Fe appears to be a proper rear zone climate control and the extra space and extra towing capcity?

    • @Chadscarcomps
      @Chadscarcomps  3 місяці тому

      Thanks for the comment. The Hyundai is light years ahead of the Pilot as far as features go. Honda traditionally never offers the latest and greatest technology. Hyundai has pulled out all the stops with the Santa Fe and the Tucson. Your comment about “5 years ago” is exactly the way the interior feels…like one generation old. They pretty much stick with mainstream technology, concentrating on reliability and proven mechanics and technology. It is part of the reason they get good marks for drivability (something they care about lot about) and quality of the materials and quality of the build itself. It has done well for them for decades and I think that will likely be their focus for decades to come.

      @@Chadscarcomps that's true although it is an all new engine. I'm curious how it will turn out. Either way it seems like Hondas reliability has gone down in recent years and Hyundai/KIA are catching up. It's really hard to want the Pilot because if I wanna keep the car for 10+ years I get a Toyota otherwise I'd rather be in a Hyundai/KIA and trade every 10 years. It sucks this Santa Fe uses the DCT because they seem to have issues. I think the hybrid is the one to get

      The feature the Pilot has over the Santa Fe is a reliable transmission and engine. I would never purchase a Hyundai. Look at their drivetrain record. Palisade is using 10 year old engine technology in their brand new remolded 2024 model. I guess it would be nice to take advantage of the fancy Santa Fe's infotainment screen and seats as you wait for the tow truck!

    My husband and I are considering the 2024 Pilot Trailsport and the 2024 Santa Fe XRT. We are wanting something that fits us and our two daughters comfortably and can also tow our 2200 lb popup camper. Do you feel like the V4 engine of the Santa Fe could handle towing? I know the Pilot's tow capacity is 5000 and Santa Fe is 4000 (though I've seen some sites say 4500). It would be my car and I do prefer more of the luxurious features. Which would you recommend?

    • @Chadscarcomps
      @Chadscarcomps  2 місяці тому +2

      Sounds like this comparison was right up your alley. 😀
      If you read the details about the Santa Fe, you will see without the rugged xrt package, you will only have a 1650 pound towing capacity. You would need a trailer with trailer brakes to be able to tow 3500 pounds, which most pop-up campers do not have. The xrt package would get you 4500 pounds of towing capacity.
      If towing capacity is a concern, then I would probably recommend the Pilot, which would tow a 2,000 pound camper easily, even when the water tanks are full and all of your stuff is in it. Also, the Pilot being the larger vehicle, the ride quality in the Pilot would be better than the Santa Fe while towing.

      Not even close, get Honda. Remember what your dad told you many years ago " NEVER BUY FIRST YEAR CAR" Pilot does not have all the latest whistles and bells but the basic V6 engine and 10 speed transmission are very reliable. Please find a "car nut" review of Pilot. He is an auto mechanic and he dives much deeper in to detais.

    • @sansin6250
      @sansin6250 2 місяці тому

      The Santa Fe’s transmission is notorious. If you are gonna tow, steer clear of Santa Fe. Between these 2, Pilot is a no brainer for towing.
      But if you like the tech stuff, you might want to look at the Palisade as well, with V6 and a traditional 8 speed reliable transmission.

  • @jnoens

    @Chadscarcomps so which would you choose?

    • @Chadscarcomps
      @Chadscarcomps  2 місяці тому

      Jnoens...Walking into this comparison I thought for sure I would just pick the Honda hands down. Reliability, excellent resale, and great drivability are always appealing to me. That said, I was blown away by the quality of the interior and the "wow factor" of the technology (I am a tech geek, admittedly). I am not totally going to tip my hand at which way I would lean, but if (and that is a big if) the Santa Fe proves to be reliable over the new few years, then I would probably lean that way. Jury is out..... :-) But being totally honest...It is hard to swallow looking at the back of that vehicle for 5-6 years or more. What was Hyundai thinking? lol

      I'm in the market for a new vehicle, currently have a 22 Honda Ridgeline RTL, I have test driven the Hyundai and the Honda and I'm leaning heavily towards the Santa Fe, the overall look, feel, tech to me is so much more superior to the Honda, I even love the look of the back, the Honda just feels old.

    • @Chadscarcomps
      @Chadscarcomps  Місяць тому

      The Santa Fe is a bit smaller than the Pilot, but if space is not an issue for you, then it makes sense. Especially if you like all of the tech and features of the Santa Fe. Hyundai has certainly upped their game! I would expect the Pilot to a bit more reliable long term, but the Hyundai warranty may cover some of the issues you will likely experience. Hard decision….

    The new Hyundais and KIAs are incredibly impressive, though there's a reason I chose an older 2018 Highlander and have five other Toyotas in our family with absolutely zero regrets. I'd rather own a car with a short warranty and never needing it than one with an exceptionally generous warranty and having the vehicle inconveniently in the shop more than necessary.

      Thanks for the comment. Each person walks into such a big decision with different perspectives and priorities. Some may want the most bang for their buck and love the big screens and technology and fancy things. Others may want "good enough" technology but a solid ride and years of worry free ownership...regardless of the warranty. To each his own, I guess. :-)

    The Honda should have been compared with the Palisade not the Santa Fe. Honda rattles a lot, not Hyundai, also Hyundai shares tech with Rolls Royce. I've had 3 Tucson's, they're just pleasant to drive.

    • @Chadscarcomps
      @Chadscarcomps  2 місяці тому +1

      I wanted to compare the Santa Fe against something from Honda/Toyota. Toyota didn’t have a Highlander for me to test, so I chose the Pilot. I agree that the size of the Pilot is more like the Palisade, however, Honda does not have that middle ground SUV between the CR-V and Pilot.
      On the short list is a Telluride/Pilot/Highlander comparison.
