  • This is a video that I've wanted to make for a while, but anyways enjoy the first episode of RED Reflects, discussing how I feel about the LittleBigPlanet series! I definitely want to talk about more video games because there are a lot that go under the radar in my opinion. I just wanted to make something different because music videos can be difficult to create sometimes!

I just found this channel and the recent videos are literally about my 2 childhood games Ratchet & Clank and LittleBigPlanet lol. I was that kind of kid would go to the moon with randoms just to copy the stuff they've build lol. LittleBigPlanet has more of a nostalgic feeling but LittleBigPlanet 2 was just even more amazing. Building my own parkour tracks for the grappling hook on the moon and just grinding to get those ''1000 jumps'' community levels done was just the best.

I think I already commented this on the massive merch video but I will say it again, the only bit of game merch I have is a LBP Ratchet costume keychain because they are two of my favourite game franchises ever merged together and I couldn't resist. (WARNING MASSIVE COMMENT).
But yeah, the literal reason I bought a PS3 was for the original LBP when I was 13. I vividly remember my dad taking the cash out the ATM and us walking across the walkway to the Game shop on the other side in Meadowhall (a mall in the UK, we call them shopping centres) with the most money I ever had up to that point to get the 80GB PS3.
Ironically I originally picked R&C Tools of Destruction as the bundled game, but there was some bug where it had to be left overnight or something to work, but I only learned that when we took it back the next day but I decided to trade it in for Oblivion GOTY edition of all things lol (the only other option was Midnight: Los Angeles and I don't care much for racers). I kind of wish I had stuck with ToD then but I ended up getting it about a year later I think and was my first R&C game (which is kind of why it's still one of my favourites). For a month after I got the PS3 I played the ToD demo and that intro Metropolis music is burned into my skull, so much nostalgia in that tune alone. Anyway, I DIGRESS.
I got the PS3 on the original release date of LBP but it got delayed due to some issue with one of the music tracks, so I eventually got it on Bonfire night in the UK and I vividly remember holding onto the game while watching fireworks out the window while we drove home. My very first trophy is the LBP1 Fashion Sense which looking at my PSN profile I got at 7PM on that day (release day). And yes I got the spacesuit although that got re-released later a few times. Not sure if I got the T-shirt tbh though, not sure if that was free or not. I did get the launch week T shirt for LBP2 though, the collectors edition box game was pre-ordered through Amazon and it came a day early.
So many good memories of playing with my friends on late summer nights just messing around. He was the R&C nut and he lent me the OG trilogy and Deadlocked on the PS2 after I first played ToD, but I was the LBP nut. I remember spending like most of a two week easter holiday just on one LBP level, which was a rollercoaster. The physics is more tricky in LBP1 since material properties are fixed to particular materials, like all the rails wear made from glass for the low friction, beut you had to mess around a bunch so things wouldn't randomly break. And since LBP is basically just a physics sandbox, getting things to work properly took a long time. Being able to tweak the physics in the second game was so much better, although by that time I had lot the patience for level building and I would mostly just mess around in create and random levels.
Me and my friend wanted to make a big R&C game (things like the grapplehook were perfect as slingshots, and I think the costumes were in the game by then), even with a space area where you could fly to different planet levels through the link portals. There was sort of a glitch where you could make the camera look sort of sideways down the layers but it didn't work very well on the spaceship, and like I said we would end up getting distracted and messing around lol.
I did get LBP3 a few months after launch since I was at uni by then, but yeah the technical issues let it down sadly. Ironically Sumo Digital is actually based in Sheffield where I was studying at the time (and live near). There were some Sumo devs talking in a local gaming discord about the issues with it I think, getting it to work cross platform and all that.
It's so sad that the servers have closed down now for PS3, it's the end of an era, and I never got a PS4 (maybe a PS5 in future). In mid 2021 I started getting into trophy hunting since just finishing an R&C marathon, and just finding out about the PSN profiles website, then I learned about the problems and then a month later the official closure announcement. I never did get the platinum for any of the LBPs. All I needed were some author hearts on LBP1 (and publish a level with water). I had dropped to the level of planning to do the H4H thing just to get the platinum so maybe for the better I missed the opportunity. (FYI my first ever platinum was R&C FFA last year lol, then I got the first one in the remastered trilogy a few months ago).
Sorry for the long comment, this was just my favourite game series ever. I got no more than about 12-15 games for my PS3 originally since I just played these all the time. Dreams is essentially next level from LBP, being able to create in full 3D, it's practically a whole game engine in itself (there are some R&C projects I think, someone has made a detailed Ratchet at least) but like I said I don't have a PS4 or the time to commit to it like I did back in the LBP days.

LBP was one of my first games on ps3 ever. To be honest... I wasn't as much interested with this game as my dad was when he has bought it. xD But when we had our hands on it for the first time... OH GOD the love has just begun. And I even loved this game more than my dad did, 'cause I'm a better gamer. XD
Everything about this game was perfect. The idea, the gameplay & the goddamn soundtrack which I also was listening today (coincidence? I think not.)
I freaking hate you for putting LBP 2 trailer here with Sleepyhead song. YOU MADE ME CRY, EVIL. XD I felt just like a young stinky kid again thanks to you. NOSTALGIAAAAA.
Aaaand yeah. LBP 3 sucks really hard. After beat this game I was also dissapointed. For me it was too... chaotic. Too many new things, characters talking with our language. It just wasn't felt like LBP anymore.
Well, you said all about this series perfectly and I have nothing more to tell or argue about you with. XD
    Thank you
