From LOOP adjustment is a little better from the practice of GAMA adjustment. Because GAMA is fixed and does not move, it holds the SWR perfectly.LOOP adjustment, knows that the wind moves SWR.
Loops are good and have been using them for 23 years now. When some hams are on mailing list saying bands are shut I am working DX with my X5105. The small coupling loop, adjust it to oval, you will get a better match. More of it will be in contact with the main loop. Try it. Report what you find.
i've seen this video and now i better understand of you question. Yes i did it on my MLA. Let see the coupling space of small loop along with the main loop here: 2:18 its 55mm long space (under this grey plastic holder). Main loop and small loop meets togheter there in 55mm long line - not just in one small point.
It would be real helpful if you can make one more video and show exactly how you connected the small Loop coax together at the top and also show how you connected a solid copper cable to the end of your radio output I'm assuming that you just connected the hot only and no ground connection is that right would appreciate the clarification on those two things
Hi Paul,. awesome and beautiful! loop antenna, also seen your superb QRP contact with friend Peter HB9UQX. I am a SWL,. no license yet,. but ordered a little RS-958B. coming soon to me ;-) Paul, I wonder if are you planning to offer this "beauty" for purchasing from your web, as you have done with MLA ver.3/4 .. Hello Pedro! Thank you for very nice comment! 😉 Yes I sell the v.3 and v.4 but the v.1 is no longer in production due to lack of some important components. You can purchase v.4 when you will send me an email. I don't have an eShop because of it's still too complicated and expensive to me.

Very interesting. You say that you are now using the INNER wire of the co-ax as the receiving loop? Is it shorter to the sleeve, or is the sleeve entirely disconnected? Have you tried it with a gap in the sleeve at the top of the loop, as I have seen in some designs?
Thanks Phil. Yes there are the other videos where I use gap in the outer braid in the middle of the coax loop. Currently I don't use the gap any more but the braid is still not connected to anywhere. Connected is only inner wire to the capacitor (ver.3 and v.4 - see videos) 73, Paul
Very impressed with the neatness of the design and a usefull compromise good band coverage 7mhz to 28mhz ... can you cover 29.7 ? G4XRM ... My loops work but yours is practical .
So the main loop is the braid of the coax and is not connected inside the box, this couples to the small loop for tx/rx. The capacitor is connected to the inner conductors of the coax, how does this tune the loop when the the inner conductor is shielded by by the outer braid of the coax loop. ?
Yes I use the braid as a big coupler to the inner loop. Therefore is the braid not connected to any part of the antenna. I achieve better SWR in whole antenna range. Strange but it works. Watch version 3 and 4.
Fabio Sona sure but which small portable or pedestrian antenna has high efficiency? It's all about the compromises. That ones or we can use much bigger antennas like LW, dipoles or verticals. But this antenna is very easy to put her in to backpack a go. ;-)
Not efficient at all given the diameter of the outer loop. I also make my own magnetic loops, but I have different size inner and outer loops to creat the most efficient magnetic loop for each band. My capacitors are a lot bigger too, 12 inches long. If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing well, else why do it?
@@dandruff7807 no, I never tryed it on 80m. But with an additional little capacitor you can use it for receive only. With this diameter it will be very nonefficient antenna.
OM0ET OK Alright! hey that your radio that you rode with pieces from China, the one that picks 6 bands. Is it possible to change the 10m band to cb? (11 meters)
Xiegu has pre-defined 10m band but you can programming CB channels to the channels memory mode. And then you can easy use it as CB radio. Or you have VFO-A and VFO-B. So on VFO-A you can use only ham bands and on VFO-B you can leave the CB frequency (27.555 USB) and that's it.
If you mean home made 6-band SSB transceiver so it has also pre-defined program to switch 10m band front end filter when is tuned frequency around 10m band. Probably is possible just tune front end filter for lower frequency as CB is and it could work also because it's very close to the 10m band.
Always interesting these MagLoop Antennas. If you need more power, up to 150W HF, build this one: ua-cam.com/video/cN_lmGRaqOQ/v-deo.html 73's from HB9AIS.

The x5105 has an embarrassing error in the vswr scale. 5 label is on vswr 6 and 10 on vswr 11.

What would it take to make this work up to about 25 watts?
You will need a bigger capacitor. This capacitor in the video works max to 20W. 73, Paul

I thought you went to shpw your antenna performing. It looks too small for 40 meters. Well built but too small to be efficient in 7mhz.
