Ahh it feels so good to be back uploading! Seriously doing UA-cam makes me the happiest person in the world 💖 Anyways I hope you all have enjoyed the video! The north american measurement got messed up in cm's it's supposed to be 76cm by 38cm.
I am from Germany and I do own a hamster and I can 100% say that everything that has been said in this video is true. And I hope that other countries change their care for hamsters. BUT I've to say that in pet stores in Germany they do sell cages that are way too small.
Actually the care for ALL animals has a much higher standard here, since we have strict rules against animal cruelty/abusing. But still not everyone sees it in the same way and still puts their Hamster/Mouse/Rat/etc in too small cages. My Hamster and Guinea Pigs came out of this type of "care" and I'm really happy to give them a happier life now!
@lena/anyone is there a link to pet care guides/articles. I’m having a hard time finding them. I can read German so any links would be appreciated!!! (For any animal care)
@@iananstaett6235 'diebrain.de' for basically any animals and 'kaninchenwiese.de' for bunnys and guinea pigs. These two are the best ones i know, cause they do know what they're talking about and put so much effort in there. Have a nice day!
This is true also in nordic countries, northern europe. Pet care in UK and north america is weirdly outdated for us. What baffles me the most is all the plastic and especially the transparent plastic hides. We do not have paper bedding of rainbow colour beddings, we use natural beddings.
I love the care in Germany but it’s so sad that some people have such low standards and think it’s ok too keep there hamsters in such small cages. I think this video will help lots of people to realise the proper care they need❤️🐹🐹🐹❤️💓
i adopted a robo hamster a couple of weeks ago now. i live in the UK and the pets at home worker was mentioning that their fur can get especially greasy to which i mentioned sand baths, and the worker told me that the hamster would ignore a sand bath as it wouldn’t not know what to do with it. i almost couldn’t believe my ears! as expected the first thing that my new hamster did was dive into her sand bath. it concerns me how little pet store workers seem to know about hamster care..
Sadly, most pet store personnel are only tought to sell products, the animals would also count as a product. Even a random (hamster spieces) wikipedia page has better info than you would usually get from a pet store owner or the staff.
To be fair, some hamsters do ignore sand baths. I've got 5 robos, only 4/5 bathe lol. And yes, Pets at Home are truly terrible. Never giving them money again.
@@CelesticCF some hamsters choose to bath when noones looking, mine was like this for first few months and for short time after he recovered from mini eye surgery. Same goes for wheel, my fella loves to run when no one is around ;)
I´m from germany and I can confirm all of this xD ^^ Also the employes at the store I got my hamster were very informated and cared for the well beeing of the animals ^^ Their informations were the same I got when doing more research. And when we recently had this heatwave they didn´d sell any animals because the heat added with stress and a ride in a car would have been very dangerous for all rodents.
Frankly, if the pet stores in America sold suitably sized cages, and didn't sell the very tiny cages, most Americans buying hamsters would buy a proper cage. As it is it doesn't take long for many to realize the very tiny cages aren't large enough and research online either buying a 40 gallon breeder aquarium or the largest clear bin in stock at the nearest store that sells bins. Pet stores be damned! I have a 50 gallon/200 quart bin for the main habitat, and a 38 quart bin as the travel bin. the 38 quart bin is as large as most, not quite all, of the tiny cages pet stores sell, not much larger than a shoe box. The 200 quart bin is above 600 square inches, its the largest clear bin usually in stock, and the 38 quart bin is above 150 square inches, revealing the size of these very tiny cages sold in America...Unfortunately, the chain pet stores are more interested in greed, the moolah, than they are in proper animal husbandry... Bins are a great value, the large Niteangel 11-inch wheel cost more than the 200 quart bin, the nice Kaytee large wooden hide cost more than the 38 quart bin... Bins are easier to clean and provide much more area size than these very tiny cages that costs much more, especially that dinosaur monstrosity sold at Petsmart which woun't even make a good lawn ornament...
As a German and animal lover I have to admit that I'm quite proud that we have these standards. My family has 6 hamsters and we keep them according to these recommendations 🥰🥰🥰

Thank you so much for educating me on hamsters. I've had my Syrian for a week, and I think I've been the best owner I can be. But my parents won't listen to me about getting her a bigger wheel and a bigger cage, they only believe what the shop keeper has said. I feel so bad about her only having a 350 squared inch cage. So luckily I let her have 3 hours walking time outside of her cage when she's awake.
Go to your local store (Walmart, Target, those types of stores) you can buy a bin for about $15 USD I bought my hamsters bin for $25 and it’s around 850 inches squared.
Hamsters love multi-chamber hideouts. When ours is drying afer cleaning and my hammie have to wait for it, he is mega sad, walking from one corner to another looking for it, digging in spot where it used to be. This hideouts can be made of wood or just cardboard and are quite easy to do ;)

i think whats really helping hamster care in germany is definitely the hamster forum! i think you might have even mentioned it in a different video! usually whenever you google a question related to hamster care in german no matter how specific someone else has already asked that question and got a proper and well thought out response from the forum members. its such a great resource and its great that almost everyone who actually wants to put in the work for hamster care eventually lands on the forums. websites like these are super important even if a "forum" might seem outdated nowadays it could never be replaced by algorithm driven social media sites like twitter etc. (even if youtubers like you do provide a ton of information! on this website here but youtube has definitely made it more difficult to find what someone is looking for because even on the search pages they throw in so many unrelated "recommendations") the forum is very organized, they have a lot of resources about proper care and diet and enclosures right at the entrance and its played such a big part in upgrading my own personal (outdated) hamster knowledge

I was doing something similar to North American care for my hamster but recently I upgraded his enclosure and so now it’s much more like German hamster standard without even realizing how much it’s like German care. I’m rly glad tho!
I'm happy that people around the world are learning how to give their pets a better life, I hope one day we see little to no small cages and hopefully more eco friendly and safe homes for our pets. Our animal friends deserve a good life, no matter what size they are. 😊
I am so glad u made this video!!! As I am American living in Germany, I was really confused and struggling finding supplies. Now I feel confident I will find a compromise. Danke very much!
I’m from Poland, and I personally think that German and American hamster care is way better than polish, I LOVE how u take care of your hamsters and bunnies, love ur vids ❤️ U inspired me to care for my hamster that well, when I first brought my hammy home I wasn’t that great at taking care of him, but u inspired me soooooo much, now he’s in a very large tank enclosure, with a sand bath, a large wheel and everything he deserves, I LOVE U SOO MUCH, THX FOR EVERYTHING ❤️ 🐹 ❤️
Thank you! Sadly it's a bit hard for me to do bloppers since when I'm editing I cut out any mistakes so then I'd have to go through the clips again and find them and it would be quite time consuming!
I didn't know how different the hamster care was! Thank you so much for making this, it was very helpful. Also, I think that we all should learn from Germany's hamster care!
I was quite amazed, I'm from Germany and bought a dwarf hamster two days ago. The last time I was in a Zoo Market was 15 years ago, I bought a dwarf rabbit for 20 Euros. Back in the days the standards weren't very high, you often had very dark aquariums full with crippled/ill mice and they were so cheap! You could buy a mouse for something like 1-3 Euros. The guinea pigs had a tiny space together with the dwarf rabbits and so on and so forth. The times have definetly changed, my dwarf hamster was 18 Euros and was kept in a very nice place, alone, as it has to be. I saw none of those silly, way to small cages nor did I see a hamsterball (I didn't really know that was a thing). A beautiful dwarf rabbit (castrated!) was 110 Euros. Everything just looked so nice! I also had to sign a form that I bought the animal and they asked me quite a lot of questions (like the cage size). Back in the days way more stores used to sell animals, now most stores are closed or only sell pet supply.
Wow good job Germany! I love how much they care about little hammies. Hopefully North America can reach that level soon! (And get rid of those terrible terrible critter trails and happy tails cages....)
Another very important thing is that we dont use chew toys made out of any textile (like the carrot chew toy, which was seen in the video) because it can lead to bowel closure . :)
I live in Belgium and it is very easy to have hamster stuff that comes from Germany (it is one of our neighboring countries). Most of my stuff comes from Rodipet or Zooplus. The quality of their products is pretty crazy and their mentalities level well-being hamsters (animals in general) is the most developed I’ve ever seen. I think that for animal welfare Germany is an example to follow! The product I’m most pleased with is birch litter, which I frankly think is one of the best litters I can find. Since it is not softwood it is not toxic for hamsters. It holds the hamster galleries well and is 100% natural. It’s a shame that in my country (and in a lot if others country) it’s so hard to find... Instead, we’re being fed softwood litter, the worst thing we can have!
I have winter white ham, I live in germany and listened to shop employee recommendations to get whatever minimum I needed(initial costs were quite hefty for me), now the hammy just turned 2 years old, is as healthy and happy as ever and its large cage is full with toys, tunnels and hideouts, all natural, I also order food online and go to pet shop pretty much only for protein mixes of insects and shrimps, my hamster lives and eats much better then I do.
Fun fact about german pet stores: When Christmas is coming closer they dont want to sell hamsters, mice, rats etc. Because they don't want that they r selling an animal as a present or gift for a lil kid❤️🇩🇪
Hi Victoria! I’m such a big fan! You’ve helped me a lot on hamster care! My hamster used to have a tiny crittertrail but know she has a 110 qt bin cage! Thank you so much for helping me understand hamster care!
I love ur vids! They helped me a lot, i recently bought a new hamster and without you i wouldnt know anything about proper hamster care. Plz upload more frequently
Wow, I really admire the German care standards! Unfortunately though, since I live in a dorm my two hamsters only have 660 sq.in of space. (They both have the bin cages I could fit in my room) I guess that means when I move to a bigger place, I should upgrade them.
Hi Victoria how are you doing today fine I hope. Thanks so much for sharing this video with us it was so informative. And a happy Saturday to you to. I really love watching your videos so so much. THANK YOU for making this video! It´s so important! 💖 I´m from Germany and unfortunately a lot of people don´t know about those care standards (or just ignoreing them...). :( But the more people talk about how to care properly for hamsters, the more people will change their mind. So please keep going!
They think this because I spent a lot on my cage and bake my sand because it's not heat treated and the fact I keep the sand outside. Then they think the hamsters should get one toy when really that not the case each chew is different for every hamster Thank you for reading have a great day
Germany Pet store workers actually have training snd they had small cages but the employee they recommended a giant 910SQ inches of floor space Cage and they give us big wheels for Robos
Yes that's what I heard form a German hamster owner on UA-cam too. Greetings from Germany BTW. XD I'm so happy that Germany care so much for such a small species. I never thought that they were differences.
I feel so bad now, i am from norway and i have a lagre cage for my hamster but not so much bedding. I have the digging tower that you didn`t recomend, but i am a child who`s living a long road from pet stores. Therfore i can`t really buy stuff by my own, and my mom is working a lot so yea. I feel really bad. Btw; Sorry about my english, ,,,,, hehe
The inches and centimetres weren't perfectly translated, the minimum entrance for a dwarf (5cm) is 2 inches and (7 cm) is 2.5 inches, the translation of the north American minimum cage measurement is also wrong in cm 💕😇 I'm a proud German hamster owner and what you said is true ahah lysm! 💕
5cm is 1.9 inches, 2.5 inches is 6.3cm. The measurements were correct but thank you. The north american measurement was supposed to be 38cm but it got mixed up to 83 a simple mistake.
I love German cages so much. The care they put into their animals' life is amazing. Thank you so much for providing a wonderful life for all your hamsters. You have helped out so many people by giving the correct information on hamsters. Thank you so so so much.
Aww I love your videos you a 're such a inspiration to me and every one out there!! I am trying to spread the same message as you for people to care for there animals better!! I film hamster and small animal videos like you xxx
I went to a Canadian art supply store and found a wooden castle jewelry box. It has two levels, 3 chambers on each level and works really awesome as a hamster house. Just make sure you take out the magnet on the door.
Thank you for the useful advice this shows you really care for a hamster because you set aside everything you needed to do today so you can make this video sorry for being late but I think your a person who what's and will make a difference
A downside to german hamstercare (or any pet care in Germany) is that people in online forums and on FB groups tend to be really aggressive towards anyone who doesn't meet the standards. They say "it is the law"(it is not, small cages are sold in stores) and "you are abusing your pet" if you don't meet these standards, while many of these people probably still eat meat. I think it is important to inform yourself before getting a pet and try to give them the best live possible is important, but there should always be room for error and improvement and mentoring in a nice way (like Victoria does!). To me as a 13 year old it was very discouraging because I felt whatever I did for my guinea pigs was never enough, while the 30 year olds that told me this is necessary could dedicate a whole room to their pets. Don't get me wrong, I think it is good to hold yourself to a high standard... but if others don't need that standard, there should be constructive and nice criticism given. Not just judgement and threats, which I often see in german pet groups.
I worked in an animal shelter in Germany for many years as a volunteer and I have to say, that the standards changed a lot to the better over the years. Not just for Hamsters. I would do many things different in pet care today, than I did 20 years ago.
American minimum hamster standards- bare minimum care so you aren't actively torturing your hamster Germany minimum hamster standards- provide a good and happy life for your hamster

HAPPY BIRTHDAY🎁🎈🎉🎊
@@captaintoe1505 thanks
I am so glad u made this video!!! As I am American living in Germany, I was really confused and struggling finding supplies. Now I feel confident I will find a compromise. Danke very much!
Yesssss! Another upload!
Thank you!! I'm glad I could inspire you and that's great you've made changes to your care!
OMG!!!yasss another german ham cage video i luvvvv those!!!!!!💕💕💕😻😻😻😻🥑🐹
Thanks
I love your videos so much and also could u do a behind the scenes or bloopers video if u could.🤗😍
To the 8 people who disliked lol: how dare you?
Literally 8 people disliked and 1k liked. That's how you know your a fantastic youtuber
Me : mum can we go to Germany to get hamster stuff?
Mum-no
Whoaaa that seed mix was so high variety and colorful! I wish we had hamster
foods like that here.
exactly when i saw it i thought it was amazing, unfortunately to get that in the usa it’d probably be soooo expensive
I have that food mix! Its super good!
Its super good for ur hammy
Wow good job Germany! I love how much they care about little hammies. Hopefully North America can reach that level soon! (And get rid of those terrible terrible critter trails and happy tails cages....)
This was so helpful! I didn’t realize that there was more of a difference than just the types of cage themes, so cool!
Thanks Curtis!
Another very important thing is that we dont use chew toys made out of any textile (like the carrot chew toy, which was seen in the video) because it can lead to bowel closure
. :)
Does that mean fabric?
Guess I'm making a multi-chamber hide for my hamster. 😂 I already have the huge cage and deep bedding.
Fun fact about german pet stores:
When Christmas is coming closer they dont want to sell hamsters, mice, rats etc.
Thank you so much for helping me understand hamster care!
this video is so helpful! thank you!
Thank you!
you’re so sweet! 💞
I love the last thing I said.. Plus last year I changed all my hamsters toys and hideouts with wooden. I love your channel
Oh my gosh, this is the perfect video idea. The German minimums should definitely be the minimums all over the world. 🤗
Thank you!
@@melissasmith6762 Then I suggest getting off my channel, thanks!
I love ur vids! They helped me a lot, i recently bought a new hamster and without you i wouldnt know anything about proper hamster care.
Plz upload more frequently
Thank you! I already upload twice a week which already puts quite a bit of stress on me
Man Germans hamster care is amazing! I wish a lot more people would know all of this. I am going to strive to give my hammies a German life :D
Your brilliant. Well take real good care of yourself and your pet's and lots of love from Jackie Beauty and Ginny bye for now love Jackie xxxx
Thank you Jackie I am doing good! How you are well as well!
I'm doing really well thank you for asking
Great job. PSAs like yours will go far in evolving the care standards here in NA. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you! That means a lot
I am German and I think the video is pretty accurate ❤️😂
Ich lebe auch in Deutschland ich habe einen kleinen dschungarischen Zwerghamster er ist super süß was für einen Hamster hast du oder hast du gar keinen
Glad to hear!
@@jenniepotterswift6880 ich bekomme bald einen Goldhamster in zwei Wochen oder so
THANK YOU for making this video! It´s so important! 💖
I´m from Germany and unfortunately a lot of people don´t know about those care standards (or just ignoreing them...). :( But the more people talk about how to care properly for hamsters, the more people will change their mind. So please keep going!
Looks like I'm moving Germany I'm tired of my family thinking I'm over thinking everything for my hamster
They think this because I spent a lot on my cage and bake my sand because it's not heat treated and the fact I keep the sand outside. Then they think the hamsters should get one toy when really that not the case each chew is different for every hamster
Thank you for reading have a great day
my family thinks the same too- ur not alone
Germany Pet store workers actually have training snd they had small cages but the employee they recommended a giant 910SQ inches of floor space Cage and they give us big wheels for Robos
I love you and your hamsters
Thank you!
Yes that's what I heard form a German hamster owner on UA-cam too. Greetings from Germany BTW. XD I'm so happy that Germany care so much for such a small species. I never thought that they were differences.
Early lol can’t wait to watch this xx
So glad your back! 💕 💕 💕 Love you ♥
Thank you!
Your welcome! By the way I didn't want to tell you last video because of the circumstances but congratulations on 200k subs!
I live you so much!!!!! And your hamsters are soooo cute!!!!! You are by far my favorite UA-camr!!
Thank you!
@@VictoriaRaechel yea did that thing in my head so it wasn't accurate 💕😂
@@VictoriaRaechel are American inches different to UK inches? Then that's why ahah
Johanna Vormoor No they’re the same lol an inch is an inch.
@@VictoriaRaechel oh well then I messed up ahah sorry
I love German cages so much. The care they put into their animals' life is amazing. Thank you so much for providing a wonderful life for all your hamsters. You have helped out so many people by giving the correct information on hamsters. Thank you so so so much.
Thank you for the kind comment!
Lol I found out that my hamster Trixi isn’t a girl

Aww I love your videos you a 're such a inspiration to me and every one out there!! I am trying to spread the same message as you for people to care for there animals better!! I film hamster and small animal videos like you xxx
Thank you! That's wonderful to hear you're also trying to spread the message of proper care!
i really like your hamsters and the care you give them i would realy love to meet you❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!
I went to a Canadian art supply store and found a wooden castle jewelry box. It has two levels, 3 chambers on each level and works really awesome as a hamster house. Just make sure you take out the magnet on the door.
Its nice that in Germany cares a lot about hamsters :)
Thank you for the useful advice this shows you really care for a hamster because you set aside everything you needed to do today so you can make this video sorry for being late but I think your a person who what's and will make a difference
Thank you!
American minimum hamster standards- bare minimum care so you aren't actively torturing your hamster
Germany minimum hamster standards- provide a good and happy life for your hamster
and even with these minimum standards you'd usually get a "hmmmm would you be open to maybe think about upgrading your enclosure?" on forums...
Love your channel and you are the best and all your information helps new and experienced hamster owners
Thank you!
