WHICH IS THE KING OF THE SUPER SHOES? - NIKE ZOOMX VAPORFLY NEXT% 3 or ADIDAS ADIZERO ADIOS PRO 3?
Today another video in the VS THE REST series, a new type of comparison, one running shoe in an out and out battle against many others! Which is the most comfortable of these shoes?
These are two pairs i have bought with my own cash, neither of these shoes has been sent to me for review.
A max cushion 40+mm shoe showdown today with the VAPORFLY NEXT% 3 against the ADIOS PRO 3. The two most famous super shoes right now.
The previous two versions of these shoes have collected more podium finishes in the last couple of years than any other models. As such which of these latest versions will go on to be the KING OF THE SUPER SHOES in 2023?
I examine the weight, softness, midsole width and underfoot feel, the outsole, the fit and the GOAT LEVEL!

Kiptum probably got paid by Nike with a blank cheque and told him that Nike will pay for all expenses and legal fees. Just put on Nike attire, they will take care of the rest.
Nike will never allow an athlete like Kiptum to run in anything other than Nike products. It will hurt the brand.

The Adios Pro 3 is my go-to maraton shoe because of that slightly better stability. Recently ran a 2:51 marathon in them and just loved them. I use the Vaporfly 3 or Metaspeed Sky+ for shorter distances (5K to half marathon) where I prefer a little more aggressiveness to the shoe. It's funny btw. how much opinions differ regarding the outsole of those shoes. One of the often heard "experts' views" as to why Kipchoge disappointed in Boston was the "bad" outsole of his Nike shoes as compared to the "great" continental outsole found in Adidas shoes :D
I have the Adios Pro 3 - happy to have it in the rotation for £140. They’ve pretty much caught Nike up looking at recent FM, HM podiums / results in general? if they tweak the Adios Pro with small improvements to weight reduction, upper and grip they have a hell of a shoe !
I find the AP3 the perfect HM and FM racer. PR machines. Even for training they just feel amazing on feet. Wish we could see Super Shoes have more longevity.
Pro 3 for me. Using them for a 10k race tomorrow. I prefer the extra stability over the Pro 2. I haven't tried the Vaporfly since v1.
Thanks Ed. I don't know if this helpful to viewers, but I'm still using V2 of each of these shoes and whilst I started thinking the Vaporfly was the better race/TT shoe, the Pro 2 seems to have got better and better the more I've used it to the point where I'm going to give it a try in my next TT.
Yes absolutely agree. Lightstrike pro improves with age.
I just received my Pro3 today! Therefore, for me the king is Pro3, it has to be. I was a bit worried about the fit, but they fit perfectly true to size. And they look gorgeous. Long live the king!

Adidas pro 3 for the win - how can a shoe that good cater to so many people? Tried the VF2 and I just couldn’t get on with it, my foot just wanted to fall off the midsole all the time. No problem with the AP3. My favourite shoe.

I think it is getting down to personal preference in Vaporfly 3 vs Adios Pro 3 or indeed any Vaporfly vs any Adios Pro. I have both and have had some decent training runs in the Adios Pro 3 but never felt the urge to race in them and actually I haven't worn them for months now. Could be that Adios Pro 3 in my large UK 13.5 is significantly heavier and I don't like the Lightstrike Pro foam as much as ZoomX. So Vaporfly all the way for me. Have already raced a 5K in the v3 and did my best time for 2 years so that was positive. Done 3 marathons in the v1 and some decent shorter races in both v1 and v2. Did find the v3 rather wide for my narrow feet but after much pulling in of the laces got that better now. v1 still probably my favourite but v3 may already be getting close to winning me over.
The v3 has improved over time but I’m still not convinced.
One remark made my ears stand up. You said that standing in both they feel almost negative drop! In the Vaporfly V2, did you get the same feeling? I feel like I am topping forward in my Vaporfly V2.
Thanks for the comparison review. I have not run in the Vaporfly Next % 2 or 3. However, I do find the Adios Pro 3 more stable than the Adios Pro 2.
Can’t help but agree on the stability
I was using the vaporfly 2 but started getting calf pains, switched to the adios pro 3 and havent looked back the lightstrike pro is superb and far more durable compared to the zoomx.
The adios are just getting better with nearly 300k in them so far they still feel superb underfoot. ❤❤❤
I'm at +400km in my Vaporfly 2 and they still are great in faster workouts. Never tried Adidas, should I? I'm really a Nike guy😅
@@Pietrotherunningfarmer I was a nike guy, used the vaporfly for speed workouts, since used spikes on the track. I recently switched to the takumi sen for daily stuff and like the feel of the lightstrike pro a lot more than the zoomx. Its all just personal preference whether or not you like zoomx or ls pro
Adios Pro 3 would be amazing if they sorted out the upper. The lightstrike pro & energy rods are brilliant, but the upper just isn't right yet. Not tried the VF3 yet
I have both (as well as the VF2) and the AP3 is one of my favorites, but I have to go with the VF3 in how it accommodates my slightly wide forefoot and increased cushioning, especially underneath the forefoot. It's softer and bouncier than the VF2 and is still as propulsive although it doesn't have the same snappiness and "explosive" character. I wouldn't want to go more than 10K in the VF2 due to the tightness of the upper and the firmer ride, but I can easily envision going the full marathon distance with the VF3.
The AP3, in comparison, has more of a workhorse kind of feel and vibe to it that seems specifically geared towards maintaining a consistent pace over long distances. But, when I want to go on long runs (13~20 miles), I almost always choose the Prime X Strung even though it's heavier and not as nimble as the AP3. The PXS is just more comfortable underfoot and especially in the upper. The upper of the AP3 remains a sore point for me. When I find that perfect balance between comfort and lockdown, it's great, but it's not easy to dial that in and I often have to stop in the middle of the run to re-lace to tighten or loosen. Maybe I'll get a better hang of it as I use it more but, as of now, this keeps me from grabbing it more often.
The VF3 almost feels like a lighter, faster, and more nimble version of the PXS to me. I can go long and my feet and legs still feel fresh afterwards although not quite to the degree of the PXS, which has a "recovery" type of quality to it with its abundance of foam and inherent protective quality. My rotation right now is the PXS, VF3, Deviate Nitro 2, and the Gel-Nimbus 25 and have added the On Cloudsurfer for something in between the daily trainer and easy/recovery categories. Interested in trying out the Deviate Nitro Elite 2 but will wait until Puma offers some other colorways. Intrigued by the Magnify Nitro 2 as well. So many good shoes and not enough time to put in all the miles to justify having them all!
Love the primex. Never fails to do the business.
For me the Adios Pro 3 is super comfortable and great to bank marathon pace mile after mile. They feel much better than the Vaporfly for me. Also did you guys see them??? They look amazing!

I agree - I don't have Vaporfly 3, only the 2, but much prefer the Adios Pro 3.
I'm curious about the AP3 VS VF2. Is the midsole firmer/progressive in the AP3 than it is in the VF2?

I definitely liked my next % 2’s over the 3’s. Something going on with my right heel. Almost feels like it’s collapsing or not level. I really was hoping your reviews of the Pro 3’s were better. I’m still looking for that race shoe to compliment my Prime X Pro Strum trainer. The Next % 2 was ok but seemed to run out of air after 100 miles.
The adios pro 2 was certainly my fav over the 3. The adidas shoes do improve in time though unlike the zoomx stuff which is on a downhill straight out the box. The primex strung is the absolute best though.

King of the foams
The Adizero Pro 3 (i use them) is a very good shoe indeed and the choice of a very big number of runners i come across. The fact that the V 3 beat it 4.5-2.5 in your review shows how good the new Nike really is. I use V2 and V3 as well as many other shoes, fortunately sponsored nowadays and the 3 is really proving to be a fav. of mine. PB last week at 10 miles. This is one shoe i feel you under-estimate and maybe just don't get. To balance things my wife and i really do enjoy the reviews and the fun element you bring to them.
I loved the v2 but the fit on the 3 isn’t great for me. That said it’s proved more durable. Thanks for watching it’s much appreciated 👍🏼👊
I was happy with the pro 3 until mile 19 when rubbing caused by the loops at the bottom of the lace eyelets caused a blister that robbed me of a PB.
Love the Adios pro3 but recently broke an energy rod with just a little over 100 miles.
Was gonna buy Vapour 3’s. Decided on Saucony Elite’s.
Wow the lightstrike pro is amazing. It gets better and better the more you use it. At first it feels abit awkward and firm. It becomes more responsive and smooth 😎

I was sure you go for the Adidas adios Pro 3.. I got a surprise you choose the Vaporfly 🎉. I totally agree. Vaporfly makes me feel like Superman 🎉.

Little bit wider in the heel. More stable over the v2 by a good margin
I love my Pro3's for tempo/speedwork but they dont have the same agressive feel as the Pro2's did. They are considerably more stable though.

I've got the vaporfly next % 2 and really want a second pair but can't find them anywhere reliable now.

Have the Pro 2 and Pro 3, VF 1 and VF2 and find that is prefer the Pro’s. Just really like the return from the Lightstike Pro. Wore the P2 for a miler today and perhaps the Takumi Sen would have been better , but I don’t have a pair so the P2 worked a treat.
The lightstrike pro is that bit more durable too
Hmmm interesting stuff Edd, I’m just about to plunder some more earth credits into some race shoes, budget will only stretch to either Vapourfly 2 or adios Pro 3 (on discount) not sure which to go with yet

Managed to get a small stone stuck in the forefoot area of the Vaporfly which has created a hole. The downside of the new outsole for sure.
Sooo I have low arch combined with my dad bod and based on the excellent details supplied from King Budd the 1st in this video it has to be the Adios Pro 3 for me. Cheers Edd.

Was thinking about getting both of these at some point - in the end I just got a new pair of Adios Pro 2’s for £100. Definitely the right choice!
I saw some for £60 in a local store. Brand new. Just shoes grabbing last models is a big saver.
@@EDDBUD Pretty sure the aggressive crazy bounce quality of the Pro 2’s is as good as it gets, definitely worth the risk of a few sprained ankles.
For me the pro 3 is the best shoe I did PB the Manchester Marathon in the vaporfly 3.
The Vaporfly V1 is much better (the V2 or V3) in my humble opinion as it fits more snug and fits a more narrow foot like mine. I also like the Adios Pro V1 more than its replacements. I have a brand new pair in yellow that I'm just itching to use, though since the Prime X was released, I'm thjinking they'll just gather dust!
They v1 and 2 are the same midsole. So the upper is the difference here. The v3 is even looser
It's an improvement on the VF Next%2. The previous VF Next%2 was too stiff for me compared to the Next%1. The Next%3 is much better than both. I have a low arch and the Next%3 is fine.
The VF Next%3 did great in the rain at Boston.
You dont overpronate in the Vaporfly 3? Like the feeling in the Endorphin Speed 1.

I found both compramised, VP3 toe box is too big and angled lacing doesn’t make for comfort - Pro 3 upper i found really difficult and found lacing cut top of my foot - never got it comfortable. Hoka Rocket 2 or Asics Metaspeed Sky/Edge+ upper on VP3 foam would be the dream.
The Metaspeed Sky plus upper was superbly good.

Have them both and I feel confident reaching for either. Maybe a few seconds difference in a longer race for us mere mortal runners. If Adidas could get provide a slightly lighter shoe, I might even give them the nod. Lets see what the AF 3 is like before we crown a king for 2023.. LOL

Don't really like either..being forefoot runner with a high arch I flatten out the vaporfly and the adios pro3 gets too hard after about 10mi..the alphafly is still the king for me..I did modify the primeX so I will soon know if it can compete with the alphafly..
Same issue here, its why I like the Alphafly and Tempo Next so much.
How did you modify the prime x?
@@bendigeidfranemmanueljones5694 the prime x has no arch support built in ,the footbed is just flat,so I use a soft foam under the insole to give the arch some support..also the original insole is flat with no cup around the heel..same for the forefoot..cos of this my foot slides around and the upper has no real structure to it..I change to a saucony insole and the arch support and then can get a decent lockdown..this is a situation with most top end shoes cos they are more concerned with weight than how the shoe fits around your foot..I change all my shoes insoles til I find the right combination that works for me..the arch and the heel structure are main areas that cos issues..
Vaporfly win hands down for me
Adidas pro 3 does absolutely nothing for me that a non carbon plated shoe can’t do
Vaporfly has way more bounce feels softer and feels like it propels you and makes you run faster
The adidas I don’t sink into the foam or bounce out of it
It’s doesn’t feel soft and there’s no propulsion. It’s a fine shoe but I’d never pick it for racing

The adios pro 3 should be worth more the money because the Vaporfly 3 will last half the lifespan of the pro 3.
6mm difference between the Adios pro 3 and the Nike is worth a whole point not the half you awarded but hey its your scoring system so I'll have to accept that. 6mm provides a more stable platform.

Adios pro 3 for me isbthe king, cheqper, stable, durable, very fast, very breajtable,and easier to find.
well in Boston marathon 23’ in wet conditions, 3 adidas athletes were on the podium. So, that could be the factor that adios pro 3 is built for all conditions? but again, shoes are for preference, so if it works for me, doesn’t mean it works for you.

@@EDDBUD true… would be great to dive into why two different races even in same conditions has differing results. tho ofc Boston is “hilly”. because in this case, the “shoe factor” is much less significant than we think.

After watching this it made dust off my Adios Pro 3's for my long run. It felt great especially going up a few hilly blocks and a segment at half marathon pace. I can't decide what to use for a half marathon in 2 weeks Adios Pro 3 or the Next Percent 2.
I would go with comfort level. Later in a race it’s the most important thing
Good video. But if I have to mention one thing I think is missing. The difference in durability. I don't have the Vaporfly 3 myself yet. But I have Nike's other Carbon shoes. Plus Adidas Carbon shoes. Have run several thousand kilometers in them. The Lightstrike Pro is much more durable than the Zoom X. At least for me. the other day I did a test where I ran 7 km in a pair of Prime X which have run around 400 km. When I got home I changed to a pair of Nike Alphafly which have run 300 km. With Prime X my average heart rate was 120 (pace 5:00 km) Alphafly 125 7 km again. Someone might think that 5 beats in difference is not much. but it corresponds to a carbon shoe Vs a quite ordinary running shoe for me. I also have several of them, When they are new there is basically no difference in my average heart rate. The Adidas Pro 2 outsole can, on the other hand, be a problem in terms of durability. But if you don't have a lot of money and want a super shoe that lasts as long as possible. So my experience is don't buy Nike.

There no doubt Vaporfly is better shoes than adidas when both brand new. But as a heavy recreational runner , I would look at how long would they last more than performance

He is lying about the traction of the outsole for vaporfly. Adidas has continental rubber that grips far superior than any rubber.

Yes but not so much the 3.
Don't have Vaporfly3, have V2, and I can easy feel every 1mm drop difference on my heels, you just need to train your brain to register position of the foot and how hard and how much you hit the heel when heelstrike while running and how much time that contact with ground lasts. Usualy 8-10-12mm drop is beter for me on straight road runs, and 4-6-8mm drop is better to me on trail runs specialy when running downhill, then you can feel it the most on heelstrike. O' and softer the foam on heel, higher the drop should be, ZoomX should have higher drop then lets say React foam. I love Nike Zegama with 4mm drop and zoomx for trails, but don't like Pegasus trail 3 with 10mm drop because it just hurts my heels with hard heelstrike, and in Alphafly1 I had to put Heel cup foam insert under heel to raise my heel because drop was too low, and Nike Tempo is great for me for the road runs longer then 5km, Streakfly and Terra Kiger8 is great for up to 5 km speed run on fresh rested legs. I think all brands are still figuring out what is the best combination od midsole foam and a drop of the shoe for fast runing with less energy usage. Hope I helped someone. :)

It’s a good shoe. But not quite the upper I prefer.

Do you remember the VF1 forefoot curved inwards? The shoe was actually curved. I wonser why they changed that.
Also, the VF1 is the GOAT in my eyes.
It was the best version, literally each iteration has gotten worse, just so they can claim the "whatever" next supershoe is superior in any way. Same goes for the Alphafly. The V2 is like an obese version of the V1.

For me the King of the supershoes is the alphafly 1 followed by the alphafly 2. I own no Pro3 but the Prime X, for me ZoomX is far better than lightstrike pro.
