Speaker Biography: Dr. Omai Garner is a Professor and Director of Clinical Microbiology in the UCLA Health System. He received his PhD from UC San Diego in Biomedical Sciences. He was a Postdoctoral Clinical Microbiology CPEP Fellow in the Department of Pathology at UCLA, and a former McNair Scholar. Dr. Garner is Board Certified by the American Board of Medical Microbiology. Dr. Garner's research focuses on novel Point of Care Devices for infectious disease diagnosis in the developing world.
Webinar: Point of Care Testing for Equitable Access
Webinar Abstract: This talk will describe the role of the clinical lab in advancing health equity. It will define the gaps in equitable access to lab testing and how that impacts patient care. We will also cover how equitable lab testing can be achieved through novel assay development, clinical test development, regulatory approval, and clinical test implementation. The goal of this talk is to inspire laboratorians to get involved in advancing health equity.
