    The ford beside the 55 Chevy was a 56. The Texas one was a 55. Side trim identifies it on the 56 and a giveaway on the 55 was the trunk emblem among other things. Good find. Worth saving some of those cars.

    I was 13 in 1978 and was just becoming car crazy. At the edge of town was an old "junk" yard that was just chock full of cars from the 30's through the early 70's. I remember walking through it and dreaming about restoring all the old cars that were there, most of which were in fairly decent shape. Clippers, DeSotos, Packards, all the old names that you really don't see at many shows, in addition to the cars from the Big Three. Such a cool place for a young man. Scrap prices in the early 2000's brought an end to that place, as well as to many similar yards around the country. It's too bad, 'cause there was a lot of neat history there. Thanks for taking us through this one! I ALWAYS look forward to the next video of yours! Take care!

    • @whattherust
      @whattherust  4 місяці тому

      Thanks very much for the support. I recall junkyards like that as well. Real estate prices drove them out of business where I lived. You could follow the housing expansion across towns, and one knew when the next yard would be sold off and closed. It is so unfortunate.

    Hi Richard & Christina, greetings from Scotland.
    It’s great to see these places in the US. Over here in the UK cars of that vintage are either in mud fields, or the cars have disintegrated to a point where they are almost unrecognisable.
    Some of the vehicles under cover could definitely be resuscitated, and useable, although lots of the outdoor cars and trucks were beyond saving. The US Army truck would look amazing if someone could devote the time to it.
    Anyway, another interesting video, & thanks for posting.
    John.

    There are hundreds of farms like this in USA and Canada. SO many old classics and cool cars that are unfortunately just way too far gone to be of much use to anyone now. At one time they would have been worth something to sell cheap and maybe someone would have brought them back or at least used them for parts and helped other cars to live again. But sitting on them until UGH. Too late now.

    The other little coupe body , also was a later 1940s ford . Ford made very few changes to the basic body shell they had , throughout the 1940s and their basic differences in looks , was mostly the bolt on parts like fenders, hood and grilles . Other than that , they had a split rear window frame , in the early 40s where post war , they had a solid rear window 46- 48. I think I’m saying all that right ! lol! But anyway they had the same basic body shell through the 40s .

    Love your show. Always Entertaining.
    If I might. You might have already been told this I was going to help you out with some information.
    Let's start by antique tags no matter what state. There is never a yearon those tags. Because they are made to go from year to year.
    Next in this video you look at a 53 ford . If you would look at the steering wheel, you will see. This is the fiftieth anniversary a very cool feature.
    And the last thing when you are looking at fifty five fifty six fifty seven chevys. You look at the valve cover and say they are staggered. Well yes and no. Only the 1955 265 had Staggered five covers. Yes you can look at any small block 283 And assume those were staggered. But in truth they are not. I will try to find you a picture of a 265 only 55 vs all others You will see a significant difference
    Please keep up the great work love watching you

    • @whattherust
      @whattherust  4 місяці тому +1

      Thank you for watching and for the info, particularly about the valve covers. I was not aware that it was only the 265 that had the staggered holes. The license plates do have years on them if they are old enough. The use of plates that cover multiple years came later, maybe in the late 60s, depending on the state.

    Most of the "65 SS Impala's had the factory vacuum gauge. This was not a factory AC car as it has vent pull knobs. The factory AC vents would have been just above where those knobs are located and a center vent above the heater controls. It may have had dealer installed AC.

Just saying. The red spoked wheel & tire leaning against the inside of the building looked like it's from mabe a 1936 - 1938'ish Chevrolet car like back in Al Capone's day. Perhaps.

    and they came from Alabama with a Yamaha underneath... XD
    interesting what decays, and what will survive the weather. do all wagon roofs from the 50's rust away from the body's frame like that? here you only see it on cars where the actual roof is a separate piece and the sealing crumbled away...
    anyway, fascinating indeed. :) here in germany the only scrapyards comparable are strewn along the river rhine, where the original maeandering was cut off when they straightened the river, and what was left was swampy and nobody cared about it. and people would dump unwanted vehicles there, because nobody checked on these places. and they suspect that some wrecks have sunk in two to three meters into the swampy soil. :P and some day some engine or gearbox will corrode open and spoiling everything forever.

      Very interesting Lothar. When I think of the Rhine, I would not usually think about old cars being in it.

    My mom had a '56 Buick Century when I was little in 1972. I was hoping to have it when I got my driver's license but my dad took it to trade for his friend's microwave oven so he could drive to work at his new night watchman job he had just gotten.
    Later I was starting high school when I spotted a '53 Plymouth that my mom talked me out of because of the probability that parts were too hard to get a hold of 'though I wondered anyway if maybe that the flathead 6 could be the same engine as in the WW II Dodge Power Wagon and would parts be obtainable from Army Surplus.

      The 56 Century is one of my favorite 50s cars. I almost bought one back in the 80s, and I still think about it.
