One difference I discovered: with the regular Suica card, after the 220 yen fee is deducted, you can get a full refund of any unused money remaining on the card, plus 500 yen. But, with Welcome Suica, you can't get any refund at all, so you need to spend it all. Assuming you are entering and leaving Japan from the same airport it's probably better to just get the regular Suica.
Why does it matter if I enter and leave from the same airport?
@TK X Nice. Good tip thank you.
Good to know. ty
@@jud4312This is because Suica cards can only be returned in the Kanto Tohoku region, which is centered around Tokyo. In other words, speaking of airports, it will be Haneda Airport and Narita Airport. If you go sightseeing in Kyoto, etc., and return by plane from Kansai Airport, you will not be able to get your Suica refunded at Kansai Airport Station. This is because Kansai Airport handles another IC card called ICOCA. There is no problem with any of these IC cards as long as you use the balance, but when it comes to refunds, it is necessary to handle them in each region.
@@ykk-1 So can I buy the Suica card at the JR Kyoto station?
Also, can I top up the Suica card using credit card?
It's quite easy to thank you for making this video. The information is invaluable to a lot of tourists that are now coming back to Japan.

Another really helpful video - thank you!
thank you!^^
Thank you so much for this video! I had planned to buy a Suica card upon arrival in Tokyo, and an ICOCA card in Kyoto (flying out of Osaka), never being able to return my Suica card. Now I think the Welcome Suica card is best: works everywhere and doesn't need to be returned. Thanks again!
i also think it's very good for tourists since they don't have to return it. i know a lot of people bought some kind of IC card and were never able to return them. I'd buy the welcome card and top up little by little, maybe 2000yen/time or so. cuz the thing with welcome card is that the money can't be refunded.
Thank you very much for the video. I will be coming to Tokyo for the first time in February and this certainly was helpful.
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!^^

Another outstanding video. It answered the questions I had about the Suica Card. Domo arigatou gozaimashita.
Glad you enjoyed it! please be noted that the Suica card is no longer available to visitors. so if you're visiting Japan for a short time, you can buy the Welcome Suica card or get a Suica card on your phone instead.

Thank you!^^
Thanks so very much, this video was super helpful,
Thank you!^^
I got my Suica card on my first trip to Japan 5 years ago, and I still have it today. Will be using it again in a few weeks when heading back to Japan. While you can return the card at the end of your visit, I would not even have been able to return it at the end of my first visit as I was no longer in JR East territory at the end of my trip. And it's not like the card has a huge cost, and this way you also don't have to think about the balance, as it will also remain valid for 10 years after last use.
Great advice. 👍 Thank you
Thank you!^^

In fact, only a few people in Japan's urban areas purchase paper tickets. In Japan, there are some tricky systems like mutual direct transit (multiple railroad companies share the same train and switch companies during the ride), but with SUICA or PASMO, you don't have to worry about them.
@@myself1525unless you are living in 10 years ago i have to say you are wrong. Icoca has been accepted in all major train systems in tokyo since 2013.
@@myself1525 so, can ICOCA be used in Tokyo metro? Yes or No.
Thank you for the video

Good video. Get yourself a suica save yourself headaches and also lots of walking between JR line and metro.

Hello,
Thank you for making this video. We are making our first visit to Tokyo & Yokohama in a few months, and this was a wonderful bit of information - especially describing the difference between the cards. Well done!
thank you so much!^^
thank you! Now i know the differences and that a Welcome Suica will be best for us. :D
Thank you!^^
Can the Welcome suica card be used in Osaka, kyoto, Nara and Tokyo?
Thank you :)
thank you so much!🙏
Thank you so much for detailed information, I’m planning to visit Japan for the first time with my family can u suggest the place to visit, place to stay
Btw, it’s not exactly correct to buy whichever card for traveling/paying but more depending on how/where the visitor will be visiting during the stay cos the fare will be much higher if not getting a pass in case of multi long distance travels on shinkansen, on the other hand Suica is more useful for someone who stays in a city such as Tokyo and also save the time while paying especially coins can be tricky if not familiar with the currency.
