The spring of 2011 was one of complete meteorological turmoil due to the earthquake and tsunami off the northeastern coast of Japan on March 11th, 2011 and the April 22nd, 2011 tornado outbreak in the southeastern US as well as the May 22nd, 2011 tornado in Joplin, Missouri.
