This is one of my favorite Devo recordings. The Neuromancer game inspired me to buy the album after reading the book and buying the game. This was the best cuts on the album. Tip of the hat to The Beatles "A Day In The Life". Very infectious.
I agree 100%, I enjoyed this album immensely ❤️ If you ever get a chance, listen to the commentary on their video collection DVD: *The Complete Truth About De-Evolution* . It explains a lot: DEVO put out six albums for Warner Bros. before the label dropped them after the poor sales of "Shout" (another underappreciated album). "Total DEVO" was the first of two albums they recorded for Enigma ("Smooth Noodle Maps" being the second), and the label had no clue what to do with them: Both albums were poorly promoted and marketed to the wrong audience. The New Wave movement was either dead or its bands had been assimilated by the mainstream--Enigma had no clue how to "sell" DEVO. Gerald Casale remarked that everything they'd been promised by Enigma was a lie--and, I quote: "We had signed with a ship of fools"😔 DEVO hadn't changed--not in essence--but the musical/cultural environment they once thrived in *had* changed. Also, I believe losing Alan Myers on drums made an impact: David Kendrick was great, but he wasn't Alan. Josh Freed has proven to be a far more appropriate replacement: Kendrick was already a professional who played with the band Sparks. Freed is almost 20 years younger than the rest of DEVO--he grew up listening to them and didn't bring the baggage of previous experience.
For me, the main problem with those two albums is the drummer, who seems to be playing in another band, I don't know, in kiss and not in devo: b But there are very good songs like this on both albums and with a lot of energy.
“Small minds play in big time games and everybody else pays. Make no mistake on they’re on the take. They’d like to keep it that way.” That’s why Devo is still not in the Rock Hall of Fame. They make us aware of truths about the human race that makes people uncomfortable.
I love this track.. the rest of the tunes grew on me.. "I read the news today-oh boy" the obvious recognizable tip of the hat to Beatles' 'A Day in the Life', Just as '4th Dimension' (Shout) had the Beatles 'Day Tripper' guitar riff😁
I remember when this was issued, LA (alt rock) radio station KROQ was promoting this as Devo's new single. They played it many times....But it doesn't show up anywhere as a "Single". I wonder what the story was behind that.
@@monsterzro Hah hah... that's too bad. Philistines, they are.... it's a frikken great song, how could they not appreciate that. It's was certainly a looooong time ago.
I loved the game Neuromancer so much!! Its the reason I love sci-fi. When is Hollywood going to do a movie on this??? Johnny Neumonic was as close as we will get and maybe the Matrix series. Maybe its for the better.. Would Hollywood get Neuromancer right? Probably not.
There's supposedly a movie version for Fox now in the works. (I know, again...) But I'm right with you, my love for sci-fi and tech got kickstarted with Neuromancer on the C64. I still read every William Gibson book when a new one comes out.
What's cool is that after all these years, I finally found out I was singing the right words: "I saw the moon today - oh boy!" and "Some things never change"
love this song, but always felt that end ''bit'' after the last chorus ''some things never change'' was not necessary and doesn't ''fit' the rest of the song.. would have been much better to repeat the chorus ''some things never change'' and fade out.. opinions?

Oh yeah!!!!
Hi, Flynn Fly Taggart! 👋🏻🤓
Ничего себе, вот чего точно я не ожидал здесь увидеть
Glad to see I am not the only one who heard that on my C64 before learning it was an actual long 30 years later :)

You're Welcome! :-)
Was computised in 1988 for the Neuromancer game.... Cool song.
I don't know why this album gets such negative reviews, IT'S FREAKING AWESOME!!!
the song is good along with Disco Dancer but the album itself is not as good compared to their other albums
Underrated for sure. Lots of fun high energy songs. I feel in love with it in about'88 or 89'
This track is pretty great yes, the album as a whole...not so much,
I agree 100%, I enjoyed this album immensely ❤️

today was the first time i've heard this original of this song besides of the c64 neuromancer version 20 years ago. what a trip!
Yep. I played neuromancer when I first heard it.
This was also the theme song to Neuromancer if I recall
I just now played them side by side, you are right.
Best game I ever played.
I thought it was 'Joeboys never change' derp
Ah... c64 glory
That is exactly what I thought.
"The sky above the port was the color of television tuned to a dead channel."
all cyberpunks must know this quote
A nice clear blue sky... Although it was partly cloudy over Chiba today
epic
"Chaos, Mr. Who...that is our mode and modus. That is our central kick."
@@lupusyonderboy9363 I always say that
I am DEVO! I will always have their back. DEVO is light in a very dark word.
Well said, spudboy😀
were all devo...and so is this album idc what they say its still so good in its own devo way..
I just like a few of their songs (as in, really love), but I would agree.
Makes me want to dust off my Commodore & play Neuromancer again!
You just reminded me of the SX-64 I sold in Hong Kong because the power supply died. Now they are collector's items.
I've always loved this song!
I'm reading Neuromancer presently. This sums up the overall tone.
Thank You from deep inside my heart
Still absolutely amazing after all these years!
THE BEST DEVO SONG THAT WAS DONE.
“Small minds play in big time games and everybody else pays. Make no mistake on they’re on the take. They’d like to keep it that way.”
That’s why Devo is still not in the Rock Hall of Fame. They make us aware of truths about the human race that makes people uncomfortable.
it doesn't matter. The rock and roll hall of fame sucks and should be burned down.
It’s a disgrace that they are not in and some other artist are it’s insane to me.
I'm 63 an just love all the real music out there !!!
thanks for uploading have not heard since 1989.
Neuromancer intro! :)
Welcome to the 80's .. Gents and Ladies !!

Makes sense since Mark mentioned The Beatles as one of his earliest influences. It’s what made him wanna learn music IIRC
I remember when this was issued, LA (alt rock) radio station KROQ was promoting this as Devo's new single. They played it many times....But it doesn't show up anywhere as a "Single". I wonder what the story was behind that.
at least they played it! Our NY alt rock station ignored my many requests
@@monsterzro Hah hah... that's too bad. Philistines, they are.... it's a frikken great song, how could they not appreciate that. It's was certainly a looooong time ago.
I recorded this song from KROQ in August 1988. I played that tape tonight.

Pray to anything or anyOne you may believe in that Hollywood never gets their woke paws on Neuromancer!!
Look what they did to Starship Troopers.
For me Hardware got the closest to a Neuromancer vide of any movie I can think of. That and the Max Headroom tv show.
@@noseyparker8130 I very much agree. No trashy Neuromancer movie!
Q: Which Devo album do you like? A: All of them.
Q: Are They Not Awesome?
A: They Are DEVO!
.... well, I thought I had heard all of DEVO, never heard this..... Thanks
35 years ahead of their time.
Commodore 64 in 1988 Neuromancer theme F**k Yeah!!!
This album is brilliant! I only have it on cassette though.
I think iwas only put on cd not vtnyl
What's cool is that after all these years, I finally found out I was singing the right words: "I saw the moon today - oh boy!" and "Some things never change"
Awesome track!
Some things never change!
Got it on cd...
I have the vinyl but damn CD...that's rare
Huh, really? I found this CD in the back of a thrift store, didn't realize there was anything special about it. It's how I got introduced to the band.
A great track.
Yes, Herr hunger artiste!
Great solo guitar from bob 1
Some of it is samples too. Listen to Mark’s demo called “Fresh Up” it has the same guitar riffs despite it all being Fairlight
Thanks for sharing! :)
Wish someone would do a mix of this and the Neuromancer game track... found one remix from neuromancer but it was horrible.
The Neuromancer game audio WAS horrible, but at the time that was the state of the art. The C-64 disk was only about 160k.
THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME! I was under the impression that it never actually was released on an album. :/
Still relevant in 2024

Nice name.
The tune reminds me of Ride of the Valkyries.
Driving tune...
happy dayz
Now im hearing the neuromancer song in "real" for the first time of my life
Best devo songs
Devo r from outerspacse

How did this end up becoming the theme for the C64 Neuromancer game? Such a strange connection.
You're lucky...can I borrow? lol :P
