Thanks! We are glad you enjoy the lei making segments! They are very easy to make and are great for graduation, holidays, special events, or just to wear!

Mahalo for the answer, bfslocations! You guys ROCK! This is a GREAT resource for those of us who buy the books but who also need, like my friend said, to see something done "with the maka" in order to understand and attempt to make something ourselves. Mahalo!

HI Erika! The twist in the 3-Straw lei comes after the lei is done but before you tie it off. You can twist the lei and then tie it together and the twist will stay for a little while. It doesn't stay twisted permanently though, like crochet lei. After a while the lei will have to be re-twisted and re-tied. Thanks for watching!

In general you're going to use 3 skeins of yarn for an average sized 3 straw lei. If you want to make the lei smaller, like 22", you could probably use half of each of those skeins, or about 1.5 skeins depending on what yarn you use. If it's the Hoku yarn, I would say that you're probably going to end up using 3 full skeins. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and Happy lei making!

Hi T-Ann! For bigger leis, we use the jumbo straws for Bubble Tea - we sell them at our Hawaii BFC stores and also online on the Crafting is Fun website (link in description box above). The straws used in the video are regular size straws, made of hard plastic. Thanks for watching!

Hi bfslocations! How was the spiral achieved in the white, lavender and purple example lei? I mean, I *think* I know ... you twist as you go, and if it's spiraled when you tie the ends together the spiral will remain? -- Erika. Thanks!

Hi! We actually have instructions for a similar style lei to the Ginger Lei made with Rattail in our Handcrafted Lei and Flowers Book IX. This volume is available for purchase online on www.craftingisfun.com Item #:30114152 (Link to item: www.craftingisfun.com/leis/leis-and-flowers-book-ix.html) The lei is called the "Double Love Knot Hibiscus Lei". You can change out the color of the rattail to match the ginger lei look. We also sell a variety of lei making supplies and our other Lei Books on that site. Thank you!
