I can't understand how you don't have millions of followers dude. You make such cool stuff, and always seem to have a lot of fun doing it, and learning as you go. You might be my spirit animal.
So fun!!! I particularly like the dark tone of the foam window seal covered sticks! And the double sided ones look like they’d be really great for live stuff!!!
Oh that's lovely sounding, it almost gives a bit of a phaser/flanger like sound on some notes. I wonder if adding a whole bunch of sympathetic strings tuned relatively to the scale of the instrument would further improve it. 😁
As you're used to the chopsticks but want other shapes, I can't help but suggest steam bending them. Making stuff from trash or easily available stuff always rings a bell here.
Thank you for researching the shapes of the string strikers (mizrabs, were they?). Getting that is probably the most finicky part in a custom santoor project! Best wishes from Russia!
This is really neat! I’ll have to make one for my mom who is a Elementary Music Teacher! All your designs are so cool since they are inexpensive yet also ones less common at least here in the USA (compared to *bucket drums and recorders)
All your instruments have such an amazing tone! Have you ever tried to play or build a daxophone? The sound they produce is so wild and otherworldly, and I think would make a great addition to your collection and really compliment your music well. Best wishes and keep up the great work!!!
Some of these designs almost look like spoons. I wonder how wooden cooking spoons would compare here. Anyway, what a great experiment. And I'm sure that new tool will unlock a lot of new possibilities for you. Looking forward to see you in the next video.
I thought the acrylic was “brighter” but wasn’t sure if that was placebo. The rubber coated ones were definitely “darker” though, so I guess the wood is just a little more vibration-absorbent than acrylic. Neat. I definitely agree having all the tonal options available is important - it’s like the pickup selection on a guitar, or changing out the mouthpiece on a saxophone.
🎶 I have an instrument suggestion. 🎶 This song called "Silent Shout" by "The Knife" has a very unique sound. Doing research I could not find which instrument made this sound for the main tune. I do believe the sound of this instrument is right up your alley. I believe it could be a fun challenge for you and to find out this type of instrument and try to recreate it. If anybody else knows which instrument they are using, I would love to know. Thanks. I love your creative videos; keep up the good work. See you on the next. Jam on...

I wonder if the strikers are slightly heavier, for example, with metal, how will the sound change? It seems to me that due to the increased inertia, it will be much stronger.
you can make the last stick version whit the who different material heads round in the grip but put an indicator for which side is down so you can roll them in your fingers to faster switch from leather to wood.
What it needs is a foot pedal to mute the strings like a palm mute, and pickups, then you could play some very interesting metal with an instrument like this!
ok this might be the arab in me, but, asisde from the "Oud", this is my favorite instrument yet, it's very similar to the "Qanoun", which is sort of a harp but not really, i'm not an expert i just tells it as i feels it :)
well, idea and instrument are great, and you tried to copy sticks. but did you ever have a look on how these sticks are handled? Holding them between two fingers (no thumb) would improve your playing instantly 😊

He makes trash instruments only a child would play with for one day. There are guys making actual instruments on YT. This channel is a joke.
@@TotalDecwhich other guys are making original instruments?
Quality never gets the attention it deserves and originality is for the few.
@@TotalDecyou are the joke. Not only is this unique and original content, it's also educational
Admit it... you're just jealous of his manly locks of hair. I bet you're bald and you live in your momma's basement. @@TotalDec
That's absolutely fantastic. I remember when I was very young stretching elastic bands over a shoe box and making my own tunes
That's how I got through school.
So fun!!! I particularly like the dark tone of the foam window seal covered sticks! And the double sided ones look like they’d be really great for live stuff!!!
The window seal ones were my favorite, too. They sounded like they added a subtle flanger effect. Great video, Nicolas!

No, it rings 14 one-string harps -- it's obviously not a bell!
Thank you for researching the shapes of the string strikers (mizrabs, were they?). Getting that is probably the most finicky part in a custom santoor project! Best wishes from Russia!
Love everything about this channel including your musical style! If I was a music teacher this channel would be my toy store.
One of the best channels on youtube.
That's awesome! Time to start collecting the cans.

I love the instrument. And the organoloogy interjection made my day :D
Your creativity is totally inspiring. I love all the things you make and the music you create with them.
It was so cool to hear how the material of the sticks affected the sound!
how am i just discovering this guy? dude's a genius, such impressive stuff! please dont stop making these videos, great work!!
My favourite sounding stick was the inner tube covered one though all sounded great and have a function
Best idea ever!
Dude, I'm so gonna make this!
Excellent build. Amazing sound. Hello from France. Have fun.
Dropping hard truths at the 5:00 mark! Love your stuff!
It would be neat to build stuff like this outdoors on public forest trails and stuff...
Organology is Fun - you are a champion :D
Bra, you’re the best.
Wow, sounds fantastic! 😮
this is amazing, and you making it open source is a breath of fresh air, thank you for this content

Thanks a lot! I really needed this)
Now I can move on to creation.
The window seal is kind of cool!

It can be a nice experiment do that with violin and bass chords too! Nice sound man!
Holy shit this is badass.
C'est purement magique ton métier ! Fascinant ! =D
The acrylic ones were my favorite, added a nice distortion to the strings.
Sounds like s fairly common instrument used in old school RPG soundtracks. Awesome

Great video! I love improving my playing by acquiring more stuff as well hehehe

How about this? - Make a bass cymbalum! Use 2lb tomato cans for resonators, and long-scale bass guitar strings!
Gah, you're so awesome for sharing this design! Thank you.
I love this!
Super cool, thank you 😊
Like deployed 👍
Wow cool. I built mine out of plastic cups - didn't sound as good as yours!

Is there a video on how to make a jaw harp or erhu?
you're great
I wonder if the strikers are slightly heavier, for example, with metal, how will the sound change? It seems to me that due to the increased inertia, it will be much stronger.
nice.. I wonder of you could tune the cans in some way to pick up the string pitch like a balafon gourd..?
you can make the last stick version whit the who different material heads round in the grip but put an indicator for which side is down so you can roll them in your fingers to faster switch from leather to wood.
You should look into the thermoaccoustic flute

I need your help! Is there an instrument made like a nail violin, but you pluck the nails like a kalimba instead of using a bow?
Can you hit the can like a tom?
Yes, but on this one it's not very interesting!
well, idea and instrument are great, and you tried to copy sticks.
but did you ever have a look on how these sticks are handled? Holding them between two fingers (no thumb) would improve your playing instantly 😊
With the raised strings at the Cans, It´s constructionwise the same a chromatic Salzburger Hackbrett invented by Toby Reiser in the 30s.

The steel pan mallets use red rubber inner tube to wrap their mallet strikers ✌️😎🥁💕🎷🎸💙🌎👍🌲🌲🌲🌲🤗
Harmonic minor tuning to really hammer down the Middle Eastern sound eh? (pun obviously intended)
et si on mettait plus d espace entre le sillet et la mécanique ?
on pourrait faire des variations en appuyant dessus , comme avec un koto ?
You need to a ventilation system on that laser, dude. That stuff will kill you! :)
Harmonic minor plus 2 notes? im not sure where those notes are from but it sounds interesting as a scale...
the only product shilling done tastefully ! 😎
👏🙂
Where is Rob Scallon when you need him?
Probably playing the World’s Biggest Cimbalom somewhere in a hidden Transylvanian castle 😂
