First off, congrats on your strong showing at NAWCQ. Like many, I’ve thought Predaplants are the strongest way to play Branded for some time. I think it’s remarkable that both BDP lists to top ran fairly different lists. There’s obviously a lot of work to do on the deck still, but that’s a lot more promising than the state of pure Branded Despia.
My question is about the normal summon. Both you and Flores ran Scorpio at x3. Did you consider Keeper as a way into Instant Fusion, and if so, why did you go with Scorpio instead?
Flores also ran Keeper if I remember correctly and he also ran Dramaturge as a big beater for the deck
I tried Keeper for a WHILE, but it just kept being a worse Scorpio. Granted with keeper you don’t have to worry about having cobra in your deck, so even if you drew cobra, with keeper you could just grab branded fusion and then combo. However, Scorpio being able to be searched off byblisp in the weird hands, then normal summoning Scorpio and comboing from there just came up for me more than keeper. And I didn’t want to play both because it would have been wayyy too many normal summons.
Scorpio also allows you to play through Scythe & D. Barrier better than Keeper too so I get it. Figuring out the normal summon dilemma is one of the big ongoing questions for playing BDP because you’re right-the deck simply has too many if you try to play all your good options.
I think the guys who won 2nd and 5th at Switzerland’s nationals have handled the question best so far: 3x Keeper, 2x Jester, 1x Scorpio. Even they agreed in their profile that six normal summons is too many, but at 3-2-1, you’re able to use the best aspects of all three. Keeper over Scorpio is tough, but at the point we admit that discarding for cost isn’t usually bad (and is often good) for the deck, there’s something to the added flexibility of discarding anything-not just a monster. I also think that Instant Fusion has very nearly solved the deck’s problem with Ash, either by bringing out MER or consistently offering an alternate line of play (to get to Branded Fusion or to build a serviceable board in the event that you fail to resolve BF). As such, Keeper is a more direct path to Instant Fusion-and its second effect to revive Albaz and make Alba Lenatus plays nicely through D. Barrier too, as well as some other common interruptions.
No criticism here-mostly interested in your thoughts on the deck’s theory. From talking with some Branded OCG players, I think this version of the deck in particular has a future in the coming POTE format. Respect to you and Flores for innovating with the deck and seeing success.

More going-second cards, such as Dark Ruler No More, or Infinite Impermanence might be good. Helps deal with monster floodgates that shut you down, such as Barrier Statue, Empen, Winda, etc.

so what does he do if his only play is his branded fusion?
If your only play is branded fusion, then you are basically back to just playing regular despia. Thankfully though, with all of the predaplant cards you can do lots of things before the fusion to search extra interruptions even if your branded fusion gets stopped. Most of the time I was searching instant fusion to make millennium eyes so that I could protect my branded fusion. I believe only had “just branded fusion” as my only play once or twice.
@@CSLand3 that explains a lot, thank you. do you think you can go for a combo i havent seen anywhere else instead and cut tragedy and ad lib? you end on double dragostapelia and have a branded in red set that gets you to mirrorjade using one of those.
It frees up 2 spaces in your deck and your combo isnt awful.

@@CSLand3 when you get scythed whats your go too play? search super poly set pass?
@@prudx2775 If you can search super poly it does help, but there are other ways to break the board if their hand wasn’t the best or maybe you had some form of interruption and they only ended on halq/dagda without a negate such as Barron to back it up. If they just end on halq/dagda, you can beat it if you open albaz or a way to branded fusion. Just enter your main phase then either slam fusion or summon the albaz, and you will be able to pump out a mirrorjade before all of their chains can go off to scythe lock you.
