Stephen "Stevie" Ray Vaughan (October 3, 1954 - August 27, 1990) was an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer, best known as the guitarist and frontman of the blues rock band Double Trouble. Although his mainstream career only spanned seven years, he is considered to be one of the most iconic and influential musicians in the history of blues music.
"The House is Rockin'" is the first track of In Step, Stevie Ray Vaughan's fourth and final studio album with Double Trouble. The title is a play on a popular bumper sticker of the 1970s, which said, "If this van's a-rockin', don't bother knockin'." It's a great SRV solo to learn, because it exhibits his style all in one guitar position and it focuses primarily on one lick - generating interest through rhythm.

Great lesson and choice tune Mark. One of my favorites. I find the rhythm unique, in that he is moving his pinky on the top string in stead on the typical shuffle on the 5th. Gives it a mean sound.
I agree Tom. It's a cool tune all around. Stevie had a way of taking something totally ordinary, dressing it up just a tiny bit, then putting on a unique rhythm ... and then his touch on the notes. Just spectacular!
That's one of the reasons I get so upset when the guitar ads say, "Master the pentatonic scale and you master the blues" or something to that effect. It's so wrong. What made BB, Albert, Freddie, Hubert, Buddy, SRV, Jimi, Eric, Peter, Gary, Larry, and a host of other blues and blues-rock guys great is NOT simply "what notes did they play?" I still remember my "what's that?" reaction to David Bowie's "Cat People" off of Let's Dance. It was Stevie of course, but up until then I had no idea who he was.
@@MarkZabel Exactly. I love to take just one or two adjacent strings and shake the snot in a mean manner. Touch is everything. Its your voice. I was watching BB King and Les Paul go back and forth last night. Chester and Lester. Inspiring stuff. Love the Chuck on a twangy strat. Nice 👍
Many thanks for this, Mark.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Great lesson Mark
Thank you Jake!
Excellent! Thanks
You are welcome. Glad you enjoyed it!
Great lesson Mark. I know you don't really like to tune down, but when you play Stevie, it's a must! Nice playing! :-)
Thanks Mark! I know, I just had too. Plus, it makes my Strat easier to play, so there's that!
Real nice Mark...a lesson on a strat WOW!
Thanks!! And, oh come on brother ... I use this guitar fairly often! (I'm laughing!!) It *has* been painful though. This guitar was left to sit in an attic in Michigan for 9 winters and 8 summers before I got it. This was the first winter I had it. Last summer I had it dialed in decently, but the winter wreaked havoc on it - even in a humidified room. I'm going to give it 1 more season before yanking out the neck and putting in a Warmoth. Hopefully I won't have to. Another option is to use it exclusively for slide.
Mark Zabel . Well you made it sound great Mark.
Beautiful strat mark
Thanks!
Great stuff. You are the man. You know what I want. More Billy! I am thinking Beer drinkers and hell raisers? Or Thunderbird? Or both! Keep up the great work
Thanks Lenny! I love Billy, so we'll keep that coming. Great suggestion!!
Another great lesson! When you're feeling in a melodic mood how about a lesson on a Focus track, Sylvia's Stepson, probably not well known but a great instrumental and alot to be learned from it, Cheers, Stephen.
I know it well. Pretty song. Might be a good progression to demonstrate either melodic ideas or playing off of chord changes, not scales. Thanks for the suggestion!
Can I make a suggestion? Could you redo your Fooled Around and Fell in Love solo with the complete solo and ad the dropbox tab? You would definitely make a lot of people happy. Also more SRV!
Hi Jack. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll add the Elvin Bishop suggestion to the list for consideration!
Mark zable Can You Make a video Lesson on how To Play living on a prayer by Jon Bonjovi And the Solo Thanks Love from srilanka
Hi! Thanks for asking. I did this video last year. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/Wioto-1v7xY/v-deo.html
👍
Thumbs up! Thanks!!
With Little Richard dying today, you can hear his influence along with Chuck Berry. Sorry Elvis. #RIP
What strings are you using Mark?
Yeah, Little Richard was a giant for sure. I'm using Ernie Ball Extra-Slinky (009-042). I use 010's on my 24.75" scale guitars and 009's on the 25.5" scale guitars. If I always tuned down (like I am here) I'd probably use 010's.
@@MarkZabel Thanks 👍
