Dan talks short game with Ryder Cup star Ludvig Åberg | The importance of being able to adapt!

  • To become a complete short game player, we need to pair great technique with fantastic golfing IQ. In this video, Ludvig demonstrates what world-class IQ looks like by adapting his technique for uphill lies, downhill lies, and rough shots.
Having great technique alone around the greens is not enough. If you possess excellent technique but fail to correctly read the lie and adjust your technique and club choice as required, you will always struggle around the greens.
Ludvig Åberg burst onto the scene in 2023 and became the first player ever to qualify for the Ryder Cup without having played in a Major. Not only was his technique superb, but he was also a genuinely lovely guy.
I hope you learn a lot from this video and head to pages 63 to 76 of 'The Three Releases' for more information on the shots covered in this video!

Best lessons I have ever watched and I will tell you Dan I've been relentless looking for a straight up common sense approach to better myself. And this short lesson was just the best . It not only reaffirmed I can get better. My "Lie IQ" has made such a dramatic improvement overall cioz not only did my wedge game improve but so did my understanding of what shot was the appropriate shot on all levels of turf geography. Amazing lesson. Thanks Ludvig and thanks again Dan. You add value every video made and its awesome!

No, it is not a mystery. That is because golfers are idiots in that sense that the average golfer don’t get the importance of the short game. Ask any pro what lessons golfers are asking for - 1 short game lesson per every 1 000 swing lessons?

Great video. Great talents... both of you. A lot of people will look at this and think, yeah l,ve got it. These different swings are something you really need to practice if you want to get good at. Just back myself from 3 and a half hours practice myself. Even then, you're not perfect. So practice more. And more.

The thing I love about Dan he doesn't crap on any shot types, I've heard some short game coaches say hinge and hold is garbage even though one of the best short game players in history uses it, not Dan its all about the right shot depending on the lie.

Really fascinating insight into how to play the slopes. Lots of similarities to Chapter 6 of the book, but also some subtle differences to consider (possibly terminology, but I have a low golf iq). For example, the book explains Release-2 for the uphill and Release-1 for the downhill, and here Ludvig uses swingpath for his adjustments - a 'draw shot' for the uphill, and a 'cut' for the downhill.
